Look through all the event threads where post their last kill. It is always a torpedo cut-in. Nobody uses gun cut-in. A fully upgraded torpedo will give you a better dice when you roll for damage. You be stupid to not max out your torpedo. They are the bread and butter of every escort fleet.

Don't forget that trying to kill bosses is essentially gambling.
You will likely need a cut-in to get the kill on certain bosses. Equipment choices will raise your chances of getting the kill you need.
That means upgraded torpedoes are useful, as are upgraded guns. You need decent guns to open the path for the kill you need. Sometimes one of your BBs taking out an escort ship is the difference between success and failure. Other times it's the damage roll on your final torpedo cut-in.

Having them remodelled isn't that big of a deal, since in exchange for the increased repair times you can afford to send out one sub less, which makes gathering fuel that much faster.

In any case I doubt they'll give them kai 2 in SS form; if anything they'll stay as SSV. The most you can hope for is for devs to halve SSV repair times to make them the same as SS.

You do first two dailies with DDs on 1-1. Transport and world 2 bosses can be done just with the six remodeled subs, of course on 2-3. Send three subs at a time, mostly abusing Ro (don't put her as flag). Most of the time I'm done before they all get chuuha'd.

Anyway, consider doing dailies on 2-2 so that your DDs can get a bit of exp, you'll also gain bauxite.
