Trains!

>> No.14940385

So my quick impressions of Maitetsu trial.

- Production values are amazing, goes without saying.
- The pace is similar to Monobeno, plot moves fast, but scenes themselves can feel slow.
- One scenes feels random as shit, Nagi is training her punches, punches down a tree, it falls on the train and Soutetsu with Hachiroku go crazy to stop Paulette in incoming train.
- Train talks aren't overwhelming and the encyclopedia entries are short and to the point.
- I'm not too keen on how the big incident that traumatized Hachiroku and the one where Soutetsu's family died are the same one. It feels like eroge goes for this "connected past" setup way too often.
- Nagi is definetly the most likeable girl and really does look super cute in the bath, as per >>14939461

Remember to install both Sky 1 and Sky 2, then launch Sky 2. It then asks whether you want to combine the games. Do it and you can play both games just from Sky 2's exe without having to save transfer later. Also saves you the headache of having to install patches for both games, which you really should do due to gameplay fixes, particularly to Sky 2's final boss that makes one portion of the fight a lot less annoying.

Gameplay wise remember to use a lot of different weapons and experiment, as new weapons are only unlocked by using their prerequisite weapons enough. You can change the difficulty any time if things get too easy or hard. The initial arsenal is pretty limited, but you can pull some crazy set-ups later.

Thanks for recalling my PTSD. I repeated that fight over and over again while my little brother's friend was watching me play and I finally ended up winning it. Taught me not to play even non-nukige eroge when other people are in the same room ever again, though thankfully the reward CG was relatively mild.

But yeah, the game in general had the problem of many major 1v1 boss fights being way too easy compared to having to fight more than one mid-boss at once, or even regular enemies when they appeared in large groups. The fight that finally made me drop the difficulty level was some random battle against a group of those medium-sized harpoon / spear using foes.

It wasn't a mistake, it was purposeful.

The vita version of monobeno also has added scenarios that aren't on the PC version, they might still do it for maitetsu if they ever make addons and want to sell it all packaged for newcomers like they did with monobeno

Can you really blame them, though? They're one of the few major eroge brands with a legitimate reason to block foreign IPs.

Also, the writer tweeted about how foreigners were getting hyped about it too, so I doubt there's any racism or whatever involved, if that's what you were thinking.

The original version of monobeno wasn't unsatisfying at all, there were problems with it and they re-wrote a lot of it and a lot of changes were made, but it was still pretty good.

I don't see them not milking maitetsu with new versions though, not as big as monobeno, but maybe some type of port to another platform with added scenes and then back port it to PC.

Or like you said, a more smile version with extra stuff packed into it, and then a version that includes it all in one package, who knows.

Remember that Denuvo is only a antidebug/obfuscation layer over the normal DRM. AAA games use Steam and Origin DRM which are properly done security wise, Akabei is going to use Buddy (I'm actually going to take a look at it myself because it seems simple enough but for another game) which might be as pathetic as Soft Denchi for which you only need the game files to crack even though it contacts a license server so in such model it would be wise to at least encrypt the whole executable instead of some small part of it.

64-bit is an obstacle because x64dbg is still not as good as Ollydbg in terms of features, also x64 has a whole new instruction set which makes room for some new antidebug/obfuscation tricks. Up until now reversers were generally stuck 32-bit protections so not many of them have experience with x64. Denuvo uses a virtual machine that's similar to Vmprotect (that's probably the hardest part of it) and there have been some devirtualization plugins and scripts for Olly but they only targeted 32-bit builds, they might be of use if there is a 32-bit version of Denuvo. No such thing for x64 Vmprotect, at least not publicly, the reversing scene either got lazy or tired of people abusing or selling public tools.

I *think* I finished Himawari. 100% in endings, graphics, tips, music and keywords. I skipped through most keywords (apart from the last unlocked one) because no way in hell am I going to be reading through shittons of infodump after all the endings. I wonder why they didn't just make the keyword section like Remember11 or I/O that warn you whenever a new keyword is unlocked. Instead you end up accumulating tons of them and having to read them without context or having to constantly check for new words.

Someone explain Cosmos to me. Or Aoi and Momiji in the side stories. Or I guess the purpose was to leave this alien virus taking over the world plot thread open-ended and just imply that humanity may or may not fucked in the future? Not that I mind that sort of finale, but pacing wise after clearing Asuka's route, then the unvoiced side stories and after that collecting all the bad ends I was expecting some big payoff like a new whole route or something else that ends the game with a bang. I guess a happy ending for Aries after clearing all the tips scenarios is something, but not exactly what I was looking for.

Dunno, whole "PC users numbers rapidly decreased, thats the reason! Oh, what? I'm wrong and PC users numbers actually rapidly increased and now at biggest number ever? Okay, its all about lack of CD/DVD/BD-drives, that's what stopping everyone from buying eroge, why would ever all these PC-users not buy it otherwise?!" is just dumb and poorly-researched.
Only two things I agree with him: (1) eroge scenario writers are shit and worse than even ranobe writers, (2) habit of just blindly copying everything from titles which sold instead innovating.

By progression I meant more of the post-2004 age focusing into scenario-driven works and the ubiquity of mobile nowadays. But your criticisms do stand about the drives being questionable.

Definitely not a scientific, end-all-be-all text though, they're just ramblings and notes from a scenario writer. He's got a better head than what we've recently seen in Mimasu Kei though.

2 is definitely not, if you are wondering who is the new character (Serebu) you might just read the common route since its pretty short. But definitely dont play any heroine routes, they are so bad that I almost hate tsuyokiss series thanks to it.

3gakki is pretty worth though, with the same level humor of original, all characters' after stories and completely new events.

My recommend for tsuyokiss is Original > 2gakki's common route > 3 Gakki FE > Next > Festival, but you might skip 2gakki's common route and Festival if you dont want to bother with them.

These might not be that much 埋もれている名作 to others, but

蜜柑 is notable because of its really unique premise, though the actual execution could be better. Basically it's about the writer protagonist writing three separate self insert stories of different genres, with the same main characters playing different roles in these stories. The scenario unfolds by going through one chapter of each story at a time. Sadly the game has various system problems, like the skip function not recognizing unread text and there being a very limited amount of save slots despite also having a ton of choices with certain endings being locked behind a ton of flags. The three stories themselves could also be less cliche, and the third one is almost a nukige. If nothing else it's definitely unique, and if some old game deserved an improved rewrite / remake it'd definitely be this in my opinion.

Scarlett is about spies and conspiracies with more focus on battles of wits rather than flashy action sequences. While the plot isn't groundbreaking, at least you won't get bored save for the problematic third chapter being written by a different writer who to my understanding doesn't seem to have gotten the memo of what type of game it is. Its drama is quite long-winded, cliche and yet it kept me expecting that surely the game will use some of these newly introduced plot devices later on in the final chapter, but to no avail. It really stands out and hurts the overall experience. If you get the game remember to grab the patch that adds voices to almost all the males, including the second protagonist.

Princess Witches has great plot and decent gameplay spiced with good humor. Don't let the amount of random H-scenes at the beginning throw you off since it's genuinely a fantastic title. The same studio's more popular and contemporary Twinkle Crusaders is also good, but it focuses a lot less on plot and much more on moe though I liked its (and especially the fandisk's) battle system more. If there's one slightly older game that I could wholeheartedly recommend to anyone it's Princess Witches.

I've already finished Mikan but I definitely agree with your sentiments there, I was really impressed with that game. At least I would say Hachirou's/過去編 chapter can be anything, but inconsistent to the game. The "inconsistent" drama you are talking about is in the fourth, and well, if you really can't see the point behind that Kataoka "long-winded cliche" drama, then you sure are the one who doesn't know what type of game Scarlett was supposed to be, considering Nekoneko soft at the time.

Sorry, I should have worded my post differently. What I meant to say that I didn't like the third chapter because plot wise it felt mostly unnecessary. I don't know of if there's any good and non-cliche way to write sickly dying girl drama, but it felt just very long-winded especially since it's repeated twice and the player obviously knows the outcome. When I started the third chapter my expectation was that the past part was going to be serving as an shorter introduction to some later main plot elements, but then it just keeps going on and on. I personally liked the smaller Leon's assistant actually being a nice guy twist, but the main one considering cloning I could see coming a mile away.

I know that thematically the third chapter is supposed to foreshadow that Shizuka also deep down wants a normal life like her mother and grandmother did, but that's about all that the chapter adds to the game as a whole. The new characters and plot elements introduced that we spent so much time with end up being completely irrelevant later on, so much that to me the third chapter felt like an optional side story more than a chapter that had to be included into the main game.

I didn't like the fourth chapter that much either since it was also a lot more slow paced compared to the first two, though at least now we were dealing with characters that actually mattered and I also liked the ending itself.

Is this fagboy from Reddit correct in this extreme criticism of Eustia?

https://mirdovimblogs.wordpress.com/2016/03/22/aiyoku-no-eustia-穢翼のユースティ/

>After having spent the last four or so months reading this, in the end, I have to say that I am disappointed in nearly every way. From the generic, cookie cutter characters to the superficial and pedestrian handling of themes, to the story which forgets itself at the very end and turns into melodramatic nonsense, the whole thing feels as if it were written without the proper elements to hold it all into place. It certainly doesn’t help that the prose is extremely weak, often going around in circle using the same boring and simplistic metaphors to draw comparisons. The structure of the game also doesn’t work very well. Its episodic structure made it feel like not enough elements of the individual chapters connect to the overarching plot in meaningful ways. Eustia was clearly not meant to be a novel with self-sustained stories, so this ends up working negatively towards its intention. Adding insult to injury, the soundtrack is weak and forgettable and the art is amateur and unpleasant, particularly the character designs. The plot, as it is, doesn’t flow well from beginning to end, and ultimately doesn’t know what do with itself; a mess of poorly developed ideas and themes that leave a sour taste in the mouth. Magic’s use in the game, like in many gritty fantasy worlds that claim to represent real life, can be summed up in one word: the author. The writers decide when, where and how to use magic, without any regard whatsoever to it making any real sense.

Somohow I have to find it noteworthy he only posts details about the one chapter of the game that's translated to English, despite claiming he read all of it.

Or not. I too drop a lot of VNs, its just life, they're so damn long.

For the moege, read through the routes that interest you and then drop them. No benefit in reading through all of it. That should trim down your list a bit.

Just half an hour in and this is some hard shit to read. Everybody including the protag treats her like shit seemingly for no reason. Even when you pick the nicer option he's still a dick to her.

I just wanted to bully girls that deserve it.

Can someone list some Vns with good/memorable piano tracks?

I'd prefer ones that we're put on the map by their soundtrack, an example would be something like white album 2.

I know some people are going to say THATS NOT WHAT MADE IT POPULAR but the song in the intro is something I still remember well.

>> No.14972064

>>14971969
And I remember several tracks from Subahibi and Sakura no Uta. People praise music in KeroQ/Makura games all the time.

>> No.14972083

>>14972064
Yes, but I'm asking for landmarks.

As generic as it might seems I mean things like clannad, white album 2, etc.

I'm looking for things to add to that list.

Subahibi is a the landmarkest landmark in the last 10 years.

I have no idea what are you still unhappy about.

>> No.14972098

>>14972083
You're going to have to define what you mean better. Last I checked Subahibi is an extremely popular VN, and 夜の向日葵 is a pretty iconic track.

>> No.14972106

Because I'm looking for titles older then 2010, I'm thinking early/mid 2000s maybe even earlier.

>> No.14972122

>>14972106
First, why didn't you say that to begin with? Second, White Album 2 came out in 2010/2011, you retard.

>> No.14972123

>>14972106
Then why do you yap about White Album 2 from 2010?

>> No.14972135

>>14972122
>>14972123
It was just an example of what I was looking for, not a direct comparison. I felt if I didn't give an example of "piano music" it would have resulted in more confusion.

Furthermore I'm asking for suggestions, I wasn't suggesting to myself to play white album 2.

>> No.14972142

>>14972135
I think everyone knows what "piano music" is, we're just confused by your weird arbitrary set of restrictions for what we thought was supposed to be a "definitive list of popular vns with good piano tracks".

>> No.14972152

>>14972142
I don't really see it as arbitrary, I'm asking for I guess the "golden age" of eroge/vn music?

Should I have said "gimma a list of da classics with da good musics"?

>> No.14972159

>>14972152
So why does this "golden age of eroge/vn music" arbitrarily have to be before 2010?

>> No.14972163

>>14972159
Nostalgia? It was a time before I knew Japanese so I'm interested in what was out there?

Take your pick, the reasons don't really matter I'm looking for landmark titles that defined eroge/vn music as they are.
