There is something very wrong with it. The use of romaji in any textbook or learning material containing text is like assuming that the reader is too stupid to learn kana and kanji. Plus, once the user gets used to it, romaji becomes a crutch from which he or she depends on, but in reality romaji is useless if you plan on actually reading real Japanese. the game actually seems helpful, i checked out the dictionary and its got a pretty good list of words and phrases if you just want to use it to translate a few things. You wont learn all of the japanese language with it, but i think its a pretty good starting tool. although some of the games are a bit stupid, i can see how they want to drill the words into your brain. if i wake up tomorrow and remember all teh week days i think it'll be effective.

yes, I'm in the third area and she just started with the basic kanji ("fire, water, money," etc.).

this game has been pretty surprising so far. definitely better than Rosetta Stone, but that's not saying much.

although, the gopher and word search puzzles are useless. and it's impossible to finish the "typing" games on hard mode.

From as far as I've gone through as of now, I wouldn't say this is going to make someone a 日本語 LANGUAGE EXPERT: LEARNED OVER 1000 漢字, but it's not too bad as an aid, especially for mobile use where a laptop isn't practical.
