It's the crazy that I like about her. I despise her when she's trying to act cute, because it's obvious that she's just acting according to management advice.
I seem to have a soft spot for the really flaky ones (I was a Saitou Fuyuka oshi from the second episode of KeyaKake, and I haven't regretted that choice for a moment), and the worst thing that can happen to them is when they get neutered by management to make them more "cute". There are two very similar emotions involved - the urge to make sure the member is completely okay, and the urge to protect them - but they aren't the same, and confusing them (see PRR) turns off some fans.
I personally feel that an idol doesn't need to be cute at all to be good at her job. As long as she can get fans engaged, that's enough - and the flaky types like PRR, KTK and Kinoshita do that very well.
Kinoshita, in fact, is almost enough to make me get back into NMB despite some rather complicated emotions about the group. Her yakuza-member fashion sense in the recent YNN videos (and the way she acts towards the other members) is perfect in my book, though I can't pinpoint exactly why.

Those of you who actually live in Japan probably know what I mean. It's perfectly acceptable among "international citizens" to claim that Japan was at fault for everything in WWII and afterwards, that the Kono Statement was completely bulletproof and that there have been no such things as historically revised Korean schoolbooks, but just try to say in the media that Korea has fabricated most of its history at Japan's expense and continues to undermine it on basically all fronts - and while you're being arrested for "historical revisionism and hate speech", a sentence that wouldn't come up if you straight-up accused all Japanese of being murdering rapists, notice exactly who's getting involved.

I thought of it, but I ended up not going. I'm not that knowledgeable about Shinto in general - I've learnt the basics through osmosis, of course, but I focus on history and non-religious culture above all. If I go there at another point (which is still up in the air - I really enjoyed my stay, but it was painfully obvious to me every time someone had to go out of their way, feel guilty or get stressed because of me, so it's really a difficult issue for me, and it's likely going to be years before I want to go again), I'll visit it once I know that I have every aspect of the proper etiquette ingrained in muscle memory.
The Yasukuni Shrine is a pretty big deal, to put it that way - it's an all-inclusive shrine for all the people who gave their lives for Japan over the years, and that's not something I wish to even risk disrespecting in the least. I respect Japanese culture and values, as you've probably guessed by now, but one thing that really touches me no matter what country it concerns (well, if it's an actual country with an actual history that doesn't also read like a list of war crimes) is the devotion to society, family and cultural values needed to give one's life for one's country and its virtues. That's something I really, deeply respect, and that's why I am not going to risk messing anything up in the least.

If I have to say what I can while taking your sources as fact, Japan was basically under occupation by the point they surrendered. The US spared no time in moving in whatsoever, mostly due to the lockdown they placed on Japanese media and communications right after the occupation.
The Japanese army was completely impoverished after WWII, the country was in ruins and the US was in charge. If the army had had the resources (they didn't) and the country had the infrastructure and the personnel to organize a full evacuation (how it didn't, and let's not forget who destroyed the infrastructure), Japan was under occupation by the US pretty much from Hour 1.
Do you think the US would pay out of their own pocket to have Japanese citizens evacuated from what they'd painted as a horrible Japanese-run slaughter-rape-house, or even let the Japanese do it? Right-wing sentiments in the US were at an all-time high, and anti-Japanese opinions were unspeakably murderous and vitriolic. Allowing the Japanese to evacuate their citizens from Manchuria would have caused the US government's credibility to immediately disappear, and might even have started a civil war.
Let me ask you: Do you honestly think that the US public, pumped to the gills on slavering, murderous propaganda against the Japanese to the point where they celebrated thousands and thousands of people being cooked alive and countless more dying agonizingly slow deaths over the course of the next months, would let their government allow (much less pay for) rescuing those people? What the US population wanted at that point was "justified" slaughter, and it served the government as well by allowing them to draw attention away from what was happening in occupied Japan (keywords: the RAA). The US let the Japanese citizens in Manchuria be left to the mercy of the Chinese, because everything else would have been too mild for the blood-crazed US population.
