They did, now it's mostly dying (just like in the west). Future Bass is the new hotness, and personally, I find it much more tolerable.

A little bit yeah, there is a thriving general EDM scene but dubstep tends to be less preferred over any other genre of the EDM umbrella term.

Plenty of hardstyle, speedcore, drum & bass, house, etc.

and of course there's a shit-ton of anime remixes done in those genres
