My room is dusty and barren. I can't afford much.

I do think mine is a true /jp/ room.

Cum and blood everywhere.

It's a pile of industrial trash.

I don't collect anything because I don't money. Just food that I'm fed.

Nothing cool, I don't have money. Just my laptop, monitor, ps3, tv and a couple of couch cushions to sleep on.

Ages of being here have told me that this is how my room should look like to get my stay, but it actually doesn't look like this.

Desk is covered in various computer stuff and generic office supplies. Shelves have random consumer products, the computer games I actually have physical of and some notebooks and books.
Various touhou mousepads sit with my shitty keyboard, okay monitor, and dusty speakers.

It's more /v/ than /jp/ but I like it.

I wanted a kotatsu, but I would have to get rid of my bed for the space.

I live in the barracks with only a dakimakura, one figure, and my laptop.

I have a desk, bed, chest of drawers, and a cupboard, and no decorations aside from a plant that I've had for half my life. There's a lot of shit I don't want to own but don't know how to get rid of crammed everywhere; it serves no purpose at all.

The room is 3 x 4 meters so it's frustrating to move in it because there's a double bed I don't want as it takes up so much room and everything falls over all the time.

Eh, to be honest I think it was just the producers of the monitors capitalizing on the HDTV craze a few years ago and being really loud about how their monitors were 1080p just like those shiny new crystal-clear televisions that everybody wanted. People got used to it and with the subsequent explosion of online streaming of television shows and movies they just tuck to the TV aspect ratio. It's a shame really. Those extra 120 pixels may not look like a whole lot but the 19:10 aspect ratio really lends itself better to the field of view of the human eye, at least in my experience. I don't know if it really has to do with the golden ratio though since 4:3 is also quite comfy, especially for browsing image boards.

The TV is a 65" Samsung JS9500. Not my ideal TV to be honest, but I got one for dirt cheap. I bought a used F8500 plasma from someone online and lo and behold it was defective. Surprisingly Samsung replaced it with a brand-new JS9500. I figured I'd hang on to it for a year or two and let OLED mature a bit more.

I suspect that the people who do this are people with a need to identify themselves with some subculture and as they like anime they decided to go with posing as "otakus". Just like 14 year olds who fill their walls with [insert currently popular subculture]-posters and dress accordingly. Only those people tend to give up that behavior a few years later.
