People wanted to celebrate the moon and realized they could do so by eating bland-tasting piles of smashed rice that happened to resemble the object of their worship.

So dango are Moonman's poop.

>> No.14378826

why did they want to celebrate the moon?
It's been there way longer than them, and it's always been there.

Did someone just wake up one morning and decide to start celebrating this big round thing that's been there forever? Why? It makes no sense.

It's a really unusual object!
It turns as it orbits, always facing Earth!
It has predictable phases and helps you divide the year into moons (what months are based on).
It catches some celestial objects that would otherwise crash on Earth!
It does tides and things on Earth!
It's made of cheese and also is hollow!
There's some weird pattern on it, sparking beliefs (moon rabbit, man on the moon).
There's no one on the moon, so living on one would be really peaceful!
Or there are people on the moon, and they're pure and beautiful!
The moon's composition is weird, and current moon creation theory involves it being a half-earth-brother.
Moondust is highly valuable and poisonous!
There's so many reasons to celebrate the moon.

The Moon has been a sacred symbol in the majority of ancient civilizations, not only on a spiritual level but also on a plain strumental level because like the sun it's a very useful entity. Specially since it influences big masses of water that are the most important think you have to think about when making a civilization.

Tsukimi : A Japanese custom to be practiced on August 15 of the old calendar. It admires the moon setting dango(tsukimi dango) and pampas grass.

What is August 15th of the new calendar?

>> No.14381055

>>14380340
In Japan's old calendar(lunisolar calendar), a leap month is inserted once in approximately three years (approximately seven times in nineteen years) so the length of the year differs by year against solar calendar (the Gregorian calendar).
So This year's old calendar August 15 was September 27, next year is September 15 and the year after next is October 4.
