Dupes actually represent spare equipment for each ship. Let's say you have shit taste and a level 150 <Kongou>. Now you get another <Kongou> - there's actually one <Kongou> in your fleet, but two sets of equipment for her:
1x Modernized K-150 Kai 2 Combat Equipment,
1x Basic K-1 Training Equipment.
If you sortie your "level 1" <Kongou>, she uses K-1. If it's "level 150" <Kongou>, she equips K-150 Kai 2. If you "sink" your <Kongou>, the hag returns to your base. Beaten up and tired, but alive. The equipment she used, however, is utterly destroyed and cannot be repaired. It just "disappears".

Conclusion: Your shipgirls die only when you sink her last "copy". Following GETs are nothing but advanced androids who replace certain shipgirl.

At least that's what I came up with to satisfy my massive autism.

Without good fleet he wouldn't be able to farm her either. You don't need as much resources if you reach the boss node more often and get S ranks all the time instead of half the time.
Akizuki is very likely to drop only from boss node or last map or be Medium+ drop. Good luck managing that without K2s and high levels.
