Some things about the new scoring system:
- It's 70% combo. Some top players think that there's almost no difference from this scoring system and the previous one in hard maps where nobody has a full combo. The max is 1mil and someone with 98% accuracy and a combo break at the middle will still get a score around 600-650k.
-Spinner bonuses are weighed too much.
-Both this scoring system and pp rely too much on combo instead of misses. Someone with 92% accuracy, 2000 combo and 5 misses will get a higher score than someone with 1000 combo, 97% accuracy and 3 misses

Some other things that people complain about:

- Variable user defined timing windows. everyone can get a 95% on something if they play it well (unless your timing is absolute shit), so scores are still retarded even when they are accuracy based. For some reason, harder maps have stricter timing windows than easier maps.

-Getting 1 miss at the middle still fucks everything up

-PP makes the community focus on cheaters, multiaccounters, people playing in someone else's account and all kinds of shit because they take one rank spot. When someone creates a new account and plays on it, it's a big fucking deal. When someone gets good at the game, people think "must be a cheater". It focuses too much on competing instead of self improvement.

-HP draining itself is dumb.

-Spinner bonuses are a stupid idea. It has no connection to being good or playing well.

-Peppy is getting loads of cash from an ouendan simulator

-Automatic difficulty rankings. Nobody gives a shit about maps from before 2013 because they aren't mapped in a way that tries to have the highest star rating possible while still being easier than other maps around the same star rating to maximize PP gain.

-Beatmap ranking rules are usually stupid. " Fun" apparently can't get shit done if it has things that the ranking team doesn't like. On mania, people play 1 ranked map out of 5 in multiplayer since nobody wants to follow so many rules.

So I love the fuck out of rhythm games, but I've always been too poor for a controller and arcades are both expensive and too far to get to one with any damn games. As a result, I've gotten really into mobile rhythm games. Anybody else here play rhythm games on android / ios? Cytus, Deemo, and Jubeat are generally my go-tos, but lately the one I'm playing the most is the one that made me decide to post despite the fact that I'm sure at least half the thread is about to shout HURR DURR NOT REAL RHYTHM GAMES (fuck off and tell me that after you FC Freedom Dive):

Hachi Hachi. Motherfucking Hachi Hachi.

It's more or less MaiMai for your mobile device, but it has 3-4 finger notes on higher difficulties and some neat shit with the actual ring itself. The number of points to touch changes with different songs (Golden Greed only has 4 points to hit and still winds up being really tough due to the complexity of the holds), in some songs the ring starts spinning, and occasionally it zooms into the bottom / top of the ring and shifts the contact points accordingly. Give it a shot, it's a fucking blast.

Either way not recommended for phone, but it plays wonderfully even on older tablets. Also weekly events with new songs released for each event, and real-time PVP against other players, a first for mobile rhythm games.

If you have a decent-sized phone or a tablet of any kind, give it a shot. There's literally nothing to lose.

They're great if, like me, you take a lot of public transit. I have a few that never get brought up as well. OverRapid is a new one that's currently in open beta and is a blast, it's really close to normal release but it's great already. Dynamix has you hitting notes on the bottom, left side, and right side of your screen and is an absolute mindfuck at first, then gets incredible once you acclimate to it. Then there's Tone Sphere, which is really hard to describe but a real treat visually and has very unique gameplay. It's currently on iOS and Android, but the Android version isn't on the play store and you have to grab it from the official site. As a fun little note, it's actually made by STA, who makes music for other games like Cytus and I believe Dynamix as well. It's a rhythm game made by a rhythm gamer and musician.

I've played a ton more, and I'm actually planning to start a website on the subject because there are a bunch of hidden gems that deserve more coverage, and I also wanna help people avoid all the shit games that get shoveled out.

Not really; it's all original music, so no crossovers from other games or artists that I've seen anywhere else, other than the titular "Hachi Hachi" which was done by Eyemedia. A solid 1/3-1/2 of the music is done by "Skytree Music," Skytree being the company that made the game itself. That being said, the music is really goddamn good. The vocal tracks in particular tend to stand out for me as some of my favorites, but there's a nice variety of genres and the notecharts are constantly exceptional, making even the ones I'm not as fond of a lot of fun to play.

If you do decide to try it, here's one tip I wish I'd known from the beginning: ALWAYS play the arena at least once when a new arena starts. Even if you lose every round, you get the new song of the week, and once that week has passed it's gone for good. They may implement something to change that in the future because the game is still very new, but as it stands you'll wanna get each one you can. The song for this week is my new favorite, it's based on mecha openings and fits the concept to a T. You've still got a couple days before the next arena starts, so you've got time to grab this one.

Oh, and if you ever happen to find yourself facing Dystopiate or SparkleVii, then hello!

This is some conspiracy tier shit. It isn't any worse than any other Bemani game. Figuring out how to execute complex patterns is the appeal of most if not all Bemani games. Reading complex patterns is one of the most important skills in Bemani games. And if you stop complaining about it and actually practice then you will reach a point where you can sightread anything they throw at you.

Fucking ITG is the worst thing to happen to any rhythm game community. Any other Bemani game and people just get good at the damn game without complaining. With DDR all the shitters look for excuses for why they can't perfect the hard songs. Like seriously what the fuck is this shit:
>Getting a AAA on DDR is less a show of skill and more one of memorization
Unfortunately there are indeed people who can consistently score well on the hardest DDR charts while properly executing all the complex patterns and it is incredibly impressive. Stop being a shitter and just admit that ITG players aren't as good as they thought they were.

How many months did it take for us to hear Over the Period in full again? Two? Three? Just for the BEGINNER chart? Meanwhile, Tatsu sightreads a 49 at KAC and was only two bads away from Perfecting it on first shot with only one of those bads being an actual miss.

I don't like DDR because it's literally the only Bemani game that forces you to learn how to play the more challenging charts with tireless trial and error. Imagine if every 11/12 in IIDX had tempo changes. Imagine if every pop'n chart above a 47 had some bullshit BPM change that locks you down to 2x at most lest you want to be fucked in the ass. Imagine if Jubeat's visual display for timing could stop, decelerate, or accelerate randomly. That's what modern DDR is to me. I don't find careering a chart just to get a half decent score to be fun. It sounds more like torture.

ITG stream shit is a whole different form of cancer since it's dickwagging about how fast you can mash to really shitty speedcore and bracketing since foot speed has reach an apex and many are reluctant to go to doubles because of their crossoverphobia.

Other than ignoring what the whole rhythm game community already recognizes, that is, that DDR charts are made not to be hard, but to be hard to perfect, you also ignore that ITG is timed on milliseconds from song start, meaning that the timing for notes remains consistent throughout the song, while DDR is synchronized on framerate.

Unless the DDR song you're playing has its bpm being a multiple of 60, the timing window is fluctuating back and forth depending on the bpm, meaning you may be the best timed player in the entire community and you still wouldn't be able to sightread perfectly a new chart even if it was way below your level.

DDR's problem is that it's not centered on pure skill like ITG is. In ITG, technical charts are made to be fun, they're my favourite because every correctly executed 180, crossover, spin and whatnot makes you really feel skilled for making it, for being able to read and execute it.

But in DDR I feel none of that. The charts are a mess of doublesteps, completely mistimed patterns, crossovers where it rhytmically makes no sense for them to be, charts that don't follow any track on the song.
Way too many charts are freely changeable with one another and you wouldn't even notice the difference because the majority of officials don't feel like charts of a song, they're just charts with an unrelated song playing in the background.

>> No.14211855

>>14211065
>How many months did it take for us to hear Over the Period in full again?
To be fair that song had the really stupid Perfect Attack requirement, and I don't think anyone will defend needless speed changes. They suck unless the transitions are very obvious. I actually do like several speed changes though. I love reading slow in DDR because the arrow colors show the exact rhythm (at least when it comes to 16ths), and the arrows overlap nicely instead of turning into a 3D clipping mess like with ITG.

>>14211833
Frame rounding is one of the largest problems I have with bemani games. However, with DDR, it probably has the least impact compared to IIDX or pop'n. Even with frame rounding making things fluctuate, you're still essentially guaranteed 3 frames of Perfect, so 50ms. This is larger than ITG's Fantastic window. You're right that it does impact the Marvelous window pretty heavily, though. And that sucks.

I actually don't like how your typical StepMania charts always "make perfect sense". I feel like I no longer have to think, since I can always trust that a crossover or a spin or whatever else will always resolve itself perfectly. In DDR, the imperfections force me to look ahead and decide what the best plan of action is. Even stock ITG and ITG2 were still pretty flavorful in this sense. All the community driven stuff since then feels so monotonous despite trying to stand out with footswitches or BPM jitter shenanigans or whatever.

So I have all the official IIDX BMS from 1st style to SPADA. Thing is, from 1st to EMPRESS, it says Judgerank Easy, but from SIRIUS up, it's Judgerank Normal. Three part question.

Is 'Normal' the closest recreation of AC?

Is this odd or does it actually reflect some fundamental shift in the game mechanics when SIRIUS came out?

Is there a way to modify them from Easy to Normal, or vice versa, depending on the answer to part 1?

Sorry to be a bother.

This is my only really huge complaint about Bemani as a whole. It puts you at the mercy of being in frame, which is especially annoying for scratches in IIDX. I guess this is why the games have at least two frames for the tightest judgment window with one of them allowing for early registration.

However, there's no excuse for this anymore since it's 2015 and ITG had it based on milliseconds over a decade ago.

I'm in Tokyo so have relatively easy access to most current JP rhythm games. Outside of one specialist place that has stuff like Techika and the non-JP PIU, finding non-Japanese games is extremely rare.

Anyway, I would recommend both Beatstream and Chunithm, at least for relatively 'casual' play, since the difficulty ceilings seems lower than games like SDVX, IIDX or Pop'n. If you're at all familiar with rhythm games, you'll probably be reaching some of the highest levels fairly quickly.

Chunithm really does feel kinda new with it's touch panel and sensor, but it's open to abuse/gaming. Beatstream is a lot of fun for me, but I'm constantly disappointed by the track list. It really pales in comparison to SDVX both in terms of number and diversity. Also the amount of work it takes to unlock stuff in Beatstream is annoying as hell. I can barely believe it and SDVX were made by the same company. It's a cynical money grab.

>> No.14219779

>>14215842
Right. Everyone's been there. Main thing - don't get frustrated. Acknowledge the fact it simply takes time and go from there. Work on 9s where you have more than 50 misses or work on timing where you have around 20. Pick few 10s up to 150 misses. For some that's high, but really out for 1200-1500 notes it's around 10-15% which is perfectly acceptable. If higher miss count doesn't demotivate you, keep poking. Keeps you on the "edge" and alert. Obviously you don't need to do this all the time. Alternate between easier and harder stuff to avoid feeling shit.
Next I highly suggest printing out a list of songs you're working on and keep noting down bp(bad-poors) with dates if you wish since webui is down. Alternatively use excel. Basically keep track of how you're doing to keep yourself motivated and set some reasonable short-term goals. As many have said, lots of things to cover like ex score, bp, etc.
Whilst this is probably not highly recommended, playing mindlessly is fine for a while especially when you're dealing with a wall. Relax and keep pressing buttons. It can take up to several hundred hours (weeks, months) until you see or feel noticeable improvement.
If you don't mind timing, vary things up by poking BMS. Adds new content and easier timing window makes you feel less bad about it. Once you figure out green number sweetspot for both LR2 and IIDX it's easy to go back and forth. Takes an hour or two to get timing down. Read LR2 guide on reddit how to set it up properly. Many BMS normal scale 11s feel like mid 10s. So, there's plenty to choose from.
Set basic goals like clear all non-gimmicky 9s. Easy-clear all 10s, play through all 9s or 10s in an order, etc, etc.
Track your play sessions and try to be in a mindset where you won't expect any large improvements for like 300 hours. It can be helpful to know and see you're closing the gap and keeps you coming back if for nothing else than to at least put in those hours.
In general you need to learn to get enjoyment out of smaller things. Pat yourself on the back if you get -10 misses from previous score or raise ex by 20, etc. Feel the burn, but at the same time laugh when you 78% some song. Often IIDX can feel like "work" and it is, but the way you look at it is what either makes it enjoyable or frustrating. Many people struggle as did I until I reached a point where, as with you, I didn't want to play. So, I had to change my attitude in order to continue.

As a side note, I don't enjoy this kind of psycho-babble, but it (un)fortunately really is that important. You're setting yourself up to burn out further down the line if you can't get in the right mindset now. Keep it up!! You've already come so far!

Start learning the crossovers aka running knob with one hand and running the keys on that side with the other hand

I believe Dynasty's ADV chart (12) is a good start for those. Fushigi something galadindong (jacket is purple and shit with a cat) 's EXH chart (14) is one of the easier 14s and has a bunch of crossovers in the beginning and end as well, which should be a good start.

To that I'd add:

Demetel EXH (12)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7wD9BHHeoY

Butterfly Cat (バタフライキャット)(12)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0OMwpQDgzE

Maybe Nishi-Nippori no Odori (西日暮里の踊り) (12) too for gimmick/knob practice.

For 13s, Soundscape is a good early track I think. The double-FX + knob parts at the start are good practice.

Space Diver Tama is probably (for me at least) the most difficult 13. The Japanese wiki refers to it as misclassified (i.e. should be a 14). If you can pass that, some of the lower 14s will feel simple in comparison (e.g. Overdrivers, Ha.le.lu.jah, etc.)

You can use symlinks for this, Link Shell Extension is your friend:

Create an empty folder, drop in symlinks of the Spada data folders and files excluding the prop folder, you can just copy and paste this folder since it's only few kilobytes.

Now you have essentially two folders containing the Spada data, both directories have different config files. and almost no extra space is taken from your HDD.

yeah, the outside isn't too bad, but whoever had them prior to the guy I bought them off was a real piece of work:
- Stage PCBs are completely missing, has some random additional wires glued in their place. He even cut the plastic off the main attachments to fit them
- serious rust issues throughout
- painted the sides black, even painted over some of the stickers
- original everything, so I'm having to powerdrill the tops of the screws off just to get inside

It'll be worth it in the long run, and I paid next to nothing for these, but it's still a pretty big amount of work.

nice ITG machine btw, don't see them all too often.

Mine's unfortunately not a 100% authentic cabinet since the the original computer died long before I got it and I had to replace the PIUIO board about 6 months after getting it.

The arcade owner I bought it from only did the minimum to keep it in working order. It took me a week to disassemble it, clean it and get it back together. While cleaning it I clogged a shop vac which I didn't think was possible, I ended up replacing 15 sensors right off the bat cause they were unresponsive.

Definitely worth it though, no need to drive 40 minutes each direction to get to a machine and then wait 15 minutes between each round because others are there.

I haven't even got the cabinet - Iliterally just have the pads. The idea is to get them working for BPC games and run a more minimal bootleggy setup. Thankfully the guy had already trashed / sold most of the other parts so I didn't destroy a cabinet to get these.

It's been around 2 days of work so far, and I'm between 1/4 and 1/3 done. I've had to resort to powerdrilling the heads off the screws just to take things apart as they're so rusty, as soon as I turn the screwdriver, they fall to bits. Had to bend a lot of metal to get the bars off too, as ther was no way to get these into the house otherwise.

I'm working towards replacing most of the parts that can't be salvaged (brackets, screws, acryllic arrows) and repairing the rest (stripping and repainting the base and the bars, removing rust and buffing the new metal, etc.) - I have a budget, but I'm gonna do whatever I can to make these look and feel brand new.

There's basically no machines near me, and there's definitely no machines running a recent version of the game. I always wanted to "do it right" with DDR, as it was my first bemani title, so now I'm finally making it happen!

>> No.14233653

>>14233446
Considering you have the pads only that's a smart move. The upside of not having the cabinet is the freedom for customizing the screen, PC, amp and speakers. You can also have it run other games without being an awkward setup.

I'm slowing looking into making a second setup for other bemani games since it's a real pain re-organizing my entire desk just to play.

I'm glad to see these pads will be getting a second life. I hope you get to enjoy them soon.

yeah, I like the idea of having arcade machines, but it's so expensive and they eat up so much space. Not only that, but in the case of many machines, the hand-me-downs are always standard definition / CRT models running older data.

I've found it much cheaper, yet equally as good to play, to purchase replica controllers (DAO) or salvaged parts (these pads) and simply customising the rest myself.

The biggest issue with these is they weigh an insane amount, they have 15 years worth of battle scars, and they're really quite big.

I haven't played much IIDX recently, I don't know why really. I think it has something to do with my setup, where I have to move my controller from my cupboard to my desk whenever I want to play, then put it away again afterwards.

Anyway, what's the best/cheapest SDXV controller available at the moment? I wanted to build one myself last Christmas, but with stuff like that I usually talk myself up alot then don't do anything. I'm thinking having a proper controller to play that game with will motivate me a bit more.

best and cheapest don't really go hand in hand.
however if you want the absolute cheapest, gj tao sells them for next to nothing http://global.gj-tao.com/controller/sound-voltex/gjtao-sdvx-controller/

I've been playing DDR for a couple of months now on some home pads I have, but I've recently been trying to play it at an arcade and I've got a pretty weird issue. I keep getting off center and I also keep to the left of the Up arrow on AC distance, I think it's because the pad I use at home has quite a bit larger arrows to step on. Is there any decent way to fix this problem? Or do I just need to spend a lot of time relearning where my feet go while playing at the arcade?

>> No.14237150

you have to get used to the AC pads, nothing else to do unless you modify your home pad to be AC accurate.

I actually do have a controller that I bought used for like $20 but it's been used really heavily and the buttons are sticky and it's still just as uncomfortable if not worse than keyboard for me

I'm in the same boat, I used to play a lot more when I'd somehow play with my FPS in my lap but now that I play standing at AC height so I can actually do well at arcades, it's a bit of an ordeal to set everything up so I don't play as much.

>Anyway, what's the best/cheapest SDXV controller available at the moment?
Your two options right now are Virgoo Turbocharger or djdao SVSE5, please do not buy a gjtao.
The turbocharger is nicer looking with more fancy lighting and comes with omron switches and copal encoders for $275 with free shipping.

The SVSE5 is also totally playable and is $120 before shipping right now, but it's less pretty and the default encoders and switches aren't as nice. So if you want a pure minimal starting point it's the way to go, but if you plan on adding on nicer switches or encoders you might as well just get the turbocharger.

I bought a turbocharger two months ago and I have had no issues with it. I am about to purchase the newest revision of it for the AC knobs. The encoders are very smooth...a little too smooth after playing on the real AC.

How do tall people play IIDX?

When I play CS, I do it with my elbows at a ~100 degree angle

But when I stand on the platform in front of a cabinet, they're like fucking 150 or something unless I bend my knees like I'm taking a hesitant shit

Just played at an arcade for the first time and bombed a level 8 even though I can pass most 10s at home

Do I need to steal a stool from the Drummania machine?

>> No.14238344

>>14237938
Yeah it sucks. I have to go for a power stance. Legs spread open, left foot just off the platform and on the floor. This lowers me to the right height. It probably looks dumb, but it's the "most" comfortable way, feet hurt after a few sessions anyway.

I went to a place that had stools for their SDVX machines once.

Basically bend your knees and lean forward a bit and use your wrists more. Kind of like playing golf.

It's not particularly comfortable but it works.

Help, how do I put my FP7 turntable back on? It was too stiff so I tried to remove the 4 screws and replace the cotton ring, but now I can't put the screws back on. It's like they won't reach the other side because they are short. I press on the TT and screw like a madman but I still screw in air. I suck with screwdrivers, what the fuck am I supposed to do

>> No.14239915

>>14239418
When i play on foam pads i just double step by sliding my feet instead of doing a crossover, i do crossovers on arcade or metal pads.

>> No.14240032

>>14239884
Ok, I managed to put the screws, and at the same time realised what the stifness problem was about. The thing is, the metal thingie that makes the TT inside turns when you turn what's on top has a loose Z position. To put back my screws, the thingie had to be in a high position, so I had to push the inside up. But even with all the screws at their tightest, that thingie still has a loose height position, and will go back down a few mm if I'm not holding it. But the position where it really slides well, is when it's on the top. The result is, if I turn my FP7 upside down, gravity will make it so it will be in a position to turn perfectly. But if it's on its normal side, it will be a few mm lower, and that will cause friction with the inside turntable ring, and cause the stifness.

I know this isn't clear at all, but maybe if someone had the same problem, that person could understand? I'm sick of this, turntable heavy songs like beach side bunny require so much muscular strenght to make the spins that I can't keep up on the hyper version

IIDX is harder to get into than SDVX.

Within 3 credits I was on 6s in SDVX.

Within 3 credits I was failing level 2s in IIDX.

Currently I can't pass 14s in SDVX and can't pass 7s in IIDX so you're shaping up just fine.

To avoid dislocation the bearing use one hand to push it up from underneath while screwing in the screws. Worst case senario you can wedge some toothpicks inside to keep it from sinking down.
