Equipment feels really insignificant, at least personally. I farmed 15 fish in a day from 3-3, stopped to do other stuff and then got 5 in a row the following day. Only equipment I have is sonars, and in the latter run I had half the amount as the first time.

Really I think they key is to not try and just bang the event out; farm a couple fish, then go back to your regular stuff for a while and try for some more fish the next day or so. Its three weeks after all.

Explanation:
Even before the air combat mechanic revamp last November 155 fighter power was already enough for 5-2. With that revamp, it became 152 because fighters became just about impossible to be shot down by an enemy fleet with no fighters, making the first node safe for fighters. And with the aircraft proficiency mechanic as long as the bombers didn't get shot down too much they wouldn't lose rank and with it their little fighter power, so as long as you didn't put them in too small a slot and none of the enemies you met could do AACI you wouldn't lose their little bonus fighter power. And it adds up.

I cleared the weekly in two sorties today and both of times didn't need yasen, even when Kuma fell to air strike and Ta-chan KO'd Shoukaku at the start.
I always went for AS+ and never needed more than four sorties for the weekly, even before chevrons.

Clearing the weekly is different from clearing a specific composition quest. The weekly allows you to use up to 3 BB (2 BB 1 CL/DD is good enough for me). The quest needs 2 DD so you can only bring one BB at most. This makes it more important for the carriers to deal enough damage to make up for this reduced firepower.

I'm not convinced its stats help much, especially with the mechanics as they are now. But okay.

And looking at your setup again, the saiun is a waste on a 12 slot size; you should be using a bomber there instead. Saiun would be reasonable if it's Jun'you Kai 2.

In any case are you crafting Taihou or Ryuusei Kai? Because there aren't many places to burn bauxite and your other planes look decent. Even when I was spamming radar recipes and doing 2/5/38 (fuck expedition 3) I was always running out of steel rather than bauxite.

Uh, okay. It was one of the first things I committed to memory, even before I actually unlocked that map, so uh, yeah. But moving on.

Also doing 5-2 with 2 unremodelled DDs is quite different from doing it with 2 remodelled DDs, so you've got to take that into account, too.

No, I have no reason to believe their values are wrong, and even if they are, I have no reason to believe they'd be overstated; if anything, they'd be understated instead. It's just that zuiuns, like red and blue planes, are still just as easy to shoot down, so you have to treat them like you treated pre-November '14 fighters; at 5-2-A for example, fighters won't be shot down but zuiuns will, so you still have to account for fighter power lost there. Same thing if you're bringing a fighter-bomber to 5-2 for whatever reason

In general, when it comes to calculating optimal fighter power, zuiuns are particularly difficult and complicated to work with; even among seaplane bombers, seiran is simpler to work with than zuiuns, simply because it has no fighter power. For one, there's the issue of slot size. A fighter-bomber can at least be put on a large enough slot size, which all CVs and most CVLs have. With the exception of Fusou-class Kai 2's 4th slots, the slot size for zuiuns is very limited. Which means you can still lose fighter power from them quite easily. On top of that, because of this they can easily lose ranks even if you get AS+ all the way. As a result, the conditions under which you can reliably take zuiuns' fighter power into account without having to increase the fighter power needed are even stricter than for red and blue planes.

I guess that isn't unreasonable, although 12 is my safe point.

With that said, you'll want more bombers for your support fleet anyway. Maybe 24 bombers of Suisei M12A/Ryuusei Kai-tier or better (8 bombers for kidou butai + 16 bombers for both supports). Even after getting that second Murata, you'll still only have 15 such bombers, so you'll still need 9 more.

Though for that I guess you can farm 9 Souryuu for their T99 Egusa or something.
