Well then, there's the reason why our opinions differ. In kidou, BB with APCI is pretty much the only way for the escort fleet to deal significant damage in shelling phase (torp phase is a different story). In suijou, this effect is even more pronounced, but for a different reason, in that as most of the trash is already dead, you're far more likely to target the high armour boss, which means a good APCI will be more likely to deal significant damage to them.

True. Still, you need a good armour roll to be able to oneshot the boss.

For a CA with 3 torps (or 1 gun 2 torps), if only one of the torp CI attacks crits (which is slightly less than twice as likely as a gun CI's single hit to crit), you need even better armour rolls than with E7 hard's boss, but if both crit (which is much less likely than a gun CI's single hit to crit), you can make do with below average armour rolls. Still, you get to add both together to obtain the total chance, and gun CI has a lower luck cap than torp CI, too. Not to mention that 3 torps still lets you hold a lookout while 3 guns 1 AP shell doesn't.

I guess it's just a matter of preference, unless someone can crunch the hard numbers.

Now, let's assume her with plane switched for another maxed 356mm, the set-up I intend to run.
178/267x1 single attack during day.
60% chance for 350/526x1 cut-in at night.
60% chance as in 40 from base luck 15 from non flag position and 5 from yasen equipment.
Bonus stage, even in orange she would deal 263/394 damage at night with 80% activation rate due to 20% chuuha modifier, which can theoretically have some real impact in a pinch.
All of the above pre-armor pre-ammo obviously, I used 1,08 and 1,15 AP hell post-cap modifier to crunch shit respectively.

Even without crit night battle gun cut-in reaches comparable damage to AP shell cut-in _crit_ during day. Night battle cut-in is more rewarding with similar risks involved. Also, it would be more fair to compare her with destroyer since you can't have 3 CAs in second fleet. All in all, it's just 18 canned luck, nothing major to fret over if it fails to deliver.
