Hey /jp/ can you help a technology illiterate out?
Is there any way to easily edit the score files (GENSOU.scr) for the PC-98 Touhous? I've extracted it from the image file and tried editing it with notepad but that just shows me some weird ass symbols that make no sense. If I start notepad with japanese locale I get moonrunes which don't seem to make any sense either.

Alternatively I'd be happy if someone here has all extra stages for Touhou 5 unlocked and could upload the score/image file. I lost my old game and I really don't feel like playing through the game 4 times again just to unlock those damn extra stages.

Or maybe there is some other way to make the game think I played through it and unlock the extra stages?

Kill yourself.

No. You kill yourself. Why the fuck would I want to play through a game another 4 times if I already finished it before plenty of times. Not to mention that Touhou 5 is one of the most boring Touhous out there and not even the soundtrack is anything special. It's just such a fucking chore.

Post it on pastebin and I might figure it out for you.

Good morning.

It does something weird with the formatting when copypasted. Not sure if it even makes any sense at all or is just some weird ass code that only the game can interpret.

Well what do I do with a binary file then? If there is a way to make sense of it and edit it I'd be really glad if you told me. Do mind what I said in the first line.

And if there is not, I'm sure SOMEONE here completed or at least unlocked all extra stages for Touhou 5, right? Come on guys.

Not me. What makes you think so?

Get a hex editor. Files on computers are made of bytes, each byte is a number between 0 and 255, or 0 and FF in hex. Typically certain numbers map to certain letters, this is what they call "text encoding." But if you try to view a file that's just meant to be some kind of data as if it were text you will get random garbage. So, viewing with a hex editor will show you the actual contents.

Opening it with a hex editor does seem to make it look a bit more sensible but it still doesn't make sense to me. I tried opening two different files and comparing them, looking for a pattern or anything that changes when you complete the game but they seem to be entirely different files. Seems like it's really hopeless.
I'll just let the thread die now. If someone who unlocked the stages does show up it'd make me really happy.

I have a save file somewhere that has everything unlocked. I have some other stuff to do but I can upload it somewhere and post a link here later today.
