13971044 No.13971044 [Reply] [Original]

Trying out this game from C88. I get this, I installed the font and even put it in my fonts folder, but I still get this. System locale Japanese so I have no clue why this is happening.

It doesn't actually seem to prevent me from playing the game, but all dialogue and text is corrupted like this.

Since I don't know Japanese in the first place and it doesn't seem to prevent me from actually playing the game, it's somewhat ignorable, but still I'm wondering if there's any way to fix this.

As far as I know,
You have to have a game.
You have to register for some kind of lottery.
You have to be granted a place to sell via the lottery.
You have to get people to know about your game.
You have to make sure you get your game copies printed out in time.

Circles are categorized into genres, and all the circles in a genre get an assigned day and hall/block location for them to be in. Your circle registers for the lottery as a specific genre, and once registration is over the committee organizes the days based on genre compatibility and sizes. Example, female-oriented genres are put on the same day, Touhou and Kancolle usually put on the same day, and original porn works basically get their own day. Then, space in the halls are allocated proportionally to each group's size, and finally the lottery selects circles from each genre at random, also proportionally to the genre size. This is why you'd see tons of Touhou circles get rejected, but comparatively few original games.

Also for the EOPs, here's what the item stats are. Seriously fuck this game's font though.

--- All weapons
こうげき - Attack
はやさ - Speed
ながさ - Reach
--- Extra stats
クリティカル - Critical
ドロップ率 - Drop Rate
テンション - Tension (Special gauge growth)
ちから - Power (Special attack strength?)
ぼうぎょ - Defense
いどう - Movement
ジャンプ -Jump
経験値 - EXP

They aren't supposed to be. Have you never written or seen written Japanese before? It's just a handwriting style font that the game is using. It's probably good for your sake that the game doesn't use much Kanji. Some of those change a lot when written out. So must have bothered you a lot too. I can read it fine myself, although it looks jaggly around the edge like everything else in the game.

My big problem is the unnecessary use of mouse control for advancing text or clicking the menu. It's as annoying as it is convenient. Also I'm not sure what the last config option is supposed to do. (被ダメ時に色) Is ダメ just short for ダメージ and it turns flashing on being damaged on/off?

Anyone finish the Hekatoncheir demo? Get all items/secrets?

Short clip of the 2nd boss fight:
https://jii.moe/4kbdMVwh.webm

The freedom of movement (natural plane shifting) is nice, although I miss being able to attack upwards/downwards.

I love the fact that semi/automatic weapons (like the AK-47) actually have rapid fire instead of being regular guns that do more damage (the Minigun is a nice addition).

There doesn't seem to be a 'Mission Screen' like in Ghost93/94, and stealth seems to have taken a backseat to run and gun (but hey it's a demo and that could change).

The blade weapon special moves('Arts' I suppose they're called from the demo translation) animations seem a bit long, but at least you can skip them (like all cinematics thankfully). They seem useful if you get crowded, and the weapon 'Muramasa' seems to be a random instant death weapon (despite its low attack), and the effect can kick-in during the special.

Interesting things were found after rummaging through the exe.

Aside from the usual previous game dialogue (Ghost94's exe has Ghost93's data/dialogue, Ghost93's exe has Ghost9/Hacker9 data/dialogue etc), there is what could potentially be text from the finished game. There's dialogue between Makoto (the new MC) and NPC's from Ghost 94/942 which could mean that Makoto could play through a portion of Ghost94, meaning he is trapped in he loop worlds like Snort/Ayumu .

Also, did anyone complete the Lost_Level in Ghost942? (Preferably with Matsushita in tow).

>Lewd 3d mode

Really? You say that as if it's something new.

Aside from the regular way the story was conveyed (conversations between the sprites in 2.5D), the game has 3D cinematics now (such as in the opening, which is a bit long), and also the webm clip that was included in the post.

The MC in the Ghost/Hack (and now Hekatoncheir) games almost always wore some manner of 'lewd' clothes, and the games were, to some extent, about 'cute trap doing Metal Gear Solid things'. Ghost942 (which predates this) had actual 'lewd 3d' content.

You aren't forced to change costumes, although why you wouldn't like clothes (see previous pic) that gives you a 1.5x speed boost it beyond me.

I believe it's mostly fans that are on board at this point (seeing as how this is game 8 in the series, 9 if you count hack9solid).

This is only from what I remember and from very rough translations. I'll post what I can it bits and pieces.

>Also, some brief character history/intros behind the MCs would be nice. Why are they all traps.

The MC for all of the games except for Hekatoncheir (so far since we only have the demo now), has been the agent codenamed Snort. Real name Sunou Ayumu -数納歩- which was previously Nichinan Ayumu - 日南歩- .

Why is Snort a trap? Dunno, preference?. In I believe hacker9's ending and more concretely in Ghost93's ending you can see that Snort was clearly male and wore standard a standard boys school uniform. Also you could see the MC from Hekatoncheir in Ghost93's ending as well. He was the other 'Dark haired boy'.

Hack9/Ghost9/Ghost92(?):

The story starts with a brief introduction into to of the main powers in the story's universe:
1) Nichinan Heavy Industries
2) The Poison Gas Army

Translations of Ghost9 1's intro in the archive.

Snort is tasked with performing reconnaissance on the Poison Gas Army's base due to radiation being emitted from their illegal nuclear reactor. While progressing through the base, Snort encounters resistance from a group of special mercenaries (thing Fox Hound from MGS) called the 13 Generals (their proper and full introduction was actually made in Hacker9, come to think of it, Hacker9 could quite possible be the main source of the back story). Further into the base Snort comes into contact with the titular character of the series Ghost, who is the network admin of the Poison Gas Army.

From what I gathered Snort's mission was not so much to mitigate the damage done by the Poison Gas Army's reactor but to cover up the link between the Poison Gas Army and Nichinan Heavy Industries, the bad end entails Snort not hearing Ghost's last words[Snort kills her in a boss fight], and allowing Nichinan operatives to complete the cover up .

TBC.

continued:
In the path to the good end Snort confronts the Nichinan Heavy Industries agent who was behind the incident, and reveled that the Snort was related to the Nichinan's CEO. Snort carried a grudge against the CEO who had his family assasinated, which is why he assumed the name Sunou

Now here's where things get a little different. While Hack9/Ghost9/Ghost92 are fundamentally the same in terms of story. There are quite a few differences.

In Hack9 we learn that that there's more to Commanding Officer than it seems (picture related, it's from Hack9's ending. A few moments later CO Murders the other Nichinan HI operative in the pic (the green helmet guy) to ensure Snort's escape since he has other plans )

Ghost9 and Ghost92 have the same last boss, but it's different from Hack9's, the endings are also different and Ghost92's ending seems to be the first subtle indication of the presence of the loop world.

To understand the origin/recognition of the loop worlds you would have to go back to Hacker9. I must admit I skipped on translating the opening game dialogue, but I more concentrated on the latter text (from what little I was able to translate).

In Hacker9 snort was tasked with infiltrating the enemy compound, but in order to gain access, Snort had to literally build a server farm from devices he would snatch from the enemy's base (the fact that you had to strip all non-server items before being able to mount a server actually kept me from progressing until I translated/figured it out)

As Snort progressed he came across not only the 13 Generals (whose complete defeat was a requirement from getting access to the missions that had the bulk of the backstory i.e Complete GUARDIAN_ANGEL_13 and THE_HEAVY_STORAGE (full server farm) to unlock HACKER_9 and MASS_PRODUCED_SEAGULL), but the psychics (results of human experimentation) Kazehime/Tukihime, the hacking cult, and NEET professor).

The meat starts happening in Hacker_9. After reaching a certain room Snort is transported to an alternate dimension (?) where the backstory is being conveyed by one of the central characters of the series (by means of some kind of psychological maze): Chan.

He reveals the exchange between the CEO of Nichinan HI, and his son (and Snort's father) Nichinan Ichirou (Shirou?).

The CEO, Nichinan Souichirou who is actually set up in some kind of life support suit (?), aimed to create a body for his 'daughter', a manifestation of the consciousness of something that can best be described as the Sybil system (which in the Hack/Ghost universe is called the 9-System, and is incidentally the linchpin for the loop world), from Pycho-pass. His son, deemed to be a hindrance to his plans is assasinated along with his wife. Snort was taken saved from the assassination attempt, adopted into his mother's side of the family and given the name surname Sunou

TLDR Darth Grandpa wants to make a body for his "daughter".

After finally confronting Chan, another member of Snort's team along with Snort corner Chan. However (given the technology in the world's setting) Chan literally vanishes into another dimension before he can be caught this is also important to the loop world concept because in Ghost93, another world, Snort actually remembers this scene (although it happened in another world/dimension) as is play out with Chan again. Needless to say Snort finds this very disturbing

After Chan is gone Snort and the other team members emerge from the Psychic Maze. It is then that Snort discovers the bodies of the other team members in an adjacent transport truck

If you then proceed to Mass_Produced_Seagull. Snort comes face to face with the manifestation of the 9-System, Nine, and engages is a telepathic conversation with 'her'.

More later.

>Thanks.

No problem. I'll try to keep the last parts brief, but as a side note, I looked at the dialogue before the final boss fight in Ghost9 I realized that there was a practical reason as to why Snort cross-dresses:

スノート「ああ、あんた達が殺し損ねた日南歩だ
この偽名と性別で
祖父の目から逃れることが出来た
生きながらえているうちに多くのことを知った
特に元凶、日南総一郎のことを……」

In order to escape the assassination attempt, Snort not only had to change his name, but his gender as well to hide his identity.

In both Hacker9 and Ghost93 Chan referred to the 9-system as a pitiful machine trapped between time and space:

チャン「(ナインシステム)は
場所と時間にとらわれている哀れな機械だった……」

The reason why it is dangerous (aside from being some psychic machine entity than exists outside (?) time and space,) was determined by one of the most enigmatic characters in the series who makes his first appearance in Ghost93: Old Man Nine.

He was spoken of by Ghost in Ghost9 1 as a 'Monster', and essentially an ancient (and possibly immortal) hacker who has existed since the dawn of the internet.

In Ghost93 (during the Ghost_9 mission) there is a cutscene where Chan and Old Man Nine discuss the 9-system, and some mysterious data it's producing. After Snort (who with the influence of Chan is teleported mentally to the past) reads a letter that Nine left Chan, he comes to the following conclusion about the 9-system:

手紙「結論を言おう、
ナインシステムは
機械が人類を支配する世界「カコトピア」を実現する方法を探している」

Letter: My conclusion is as follows, the 9-System machine is searching for a way to implement Kakotopia, a world
in which it rules over humanity.

Letter: If you find that the 9-System becomes an existance that stands in mankind's way, I want you to destroy it.

The method of destroying the 9-System left by Nine (Old Man) (as well as the 9-System itself) is found in Ghost94/942.

Ghost94 is the game that addresses the existence of the loop worlds.

Ghost94 is essentially Snort transported to another world at the end of Ghost93 where in the ending he is a schoolboy again, and asks Kitaooji what Month/Day/Year/Time it is

The intro of Ghost94 sees Snort in the middle of a radiation contaminated zone (presumably in Japan) after a was between the "Government Side" and the "Continent Side" which I take to be simply Japan and China. The mission based nature of the game has Snort trying to gain favor and find info from various factions in the game.

On the one side, the Japanese military, who got pretty much spanked by Chinese Special Psychic soldiers squads. They need Snort's eyes to be able to put a stop to, or at least severely hamper production of, a vital component in the creation of Psychic Soldiers, the Psychic Module.

On the Chinese side, production itself is being hampered by infighting between the two major powers in the polluted zone: Super Mutants, and the Armored Ninjas. Snort find himself acting (if you so choose) as a double agent and waging a proxy war in a series of assassinations/revenge killings.

Behind the whole mess is one of the members of the old 13 Commanders, Kunikida, who with knowledge of a phenomenon called: 三千世界の記憶 (Literally translates to: Memory of 3000 Worlds, but means Memory of the Universe). Gives power to the 13 Generals of the current loop world to be able to get an overview of all space-time and be able to repeat your life/existence in a loop (think Groundhog day/Puella Magi).

Kunikida received information about the loop words, and the method to reset them from Old Man Nine (perhaps not directly but was found).

It was conveyed by the was of a causal relationship diagram created by Nine it is actually found in a secret room, and whether you discover is and are able to get a glimpse of it with the Nikita will determine whether you get the true end or not

Virtually all methods of resetting the loop world hinged on The destruction of the 9-System. In Ghost91/2 it happened when the Nichinan Heavy Industries agent destroyed the 9-system. In Ghost93 it happened when Miki (the last boss) got the 9-system swallowed by his/her? White Hole attack upon defeat. In Ghost94 it can be achieved by destroying the 9-system directly in the ultra-contaminated zone, or nuking if with a virus through a backdoor left by Old Man Nine in Ghost93. Nine himself proved this relationship.

With the data found in Hekatoncheir's program file, it is possible that Kitaooji could team up with Snort (of face him) in order to to escape from the loop world.

>>14003772
>Why are they all traps.

Perhaps Kitaooji Makoto (Hekatoncheir's MC, and previous 13 Commander member), dressed up in the combat maid outfit since it is essentially the uniform of his unit. But then again he probably just likes it given how he dresses casually in Hekatoncheir and in Ghost942 you find out that Snort is his 思い人. He doesn't say it but the 13 Commanders leader Kano makes that statement:
狩野「そうか、お前が北大路の(思い人)か」

There's still a whole bunch of other stuff but I think I'll leave it at this.

No one uploaded Ghost92 and it isn't available for purchase anywhere, unfortunately.

>So I'm trying to get into GHost/hack9 and I feel like I'm doing everything wrong is there a "total easy-mode"-game for the series or should I just try them out?

>I feel like I'm doing everything wrong is there a "total easy-mode"-game for the series or should I just try them out?

The very first step of every game in the series is getting your stats up. Grind for money to get random stat ups, then when your hp/mp (willfully maximize it by saving and using the hp/mp up and only saving the new stats if you get the max value) is such that you can safely venture further, do so.

None of the game are easy in the beginning. I remember once reading a review of hack9/hacker9 about how 'Grinding should not be the core of a metrodvania' or something to that extent. I agree, but that's the way the games are.

Once your stats aren't shit, you can explore the game freely.

One warning about Hacker9. While it has some of the juiciest backstory, and some pretty good boss fights and weapons, it has the most annoying and punishing mechanic of all the games: auto save on death. As soon as you die:

1)Your items are dropped where you die
2)Your hp/mp upon reset is dropped to 1 (and it costs money to replenish MP)
3)If you die in a bottomless pit/spike trap* you can kiss your items goodbye (like that expensive stealth camo that you get only one of, if you lose your items in a spike trap you can perhaps get your stuff back by taking advantage of damage invincibility frames)
4)your cash is halved.

One of the ways to get around this is to manually make a copy of your current savegame, and replace it once you die and the autosave bullshit kicks in. Never before has a game made me willfully cheat, and not give a fuck.

Collect way fucking too many of them and you can trade them in for some really great weapons. The spear is really good though. 5 reach, 5 speed, 46 base attack. Can also get a set of brass (crystal?) knuckles with 8 speed and much higher base attack than the bracelets you get early on. Plus you can upgrade them.

But what exactly triggers the good end in GHost94? After i beat it, the end seemed rather sad. Do they mean this picture in the Hyper-EV when they speak of a "causal relationship diagram"? Or was it already triggered during the Nikita mission, where you had to spot the office in the lower picture?

Also, is Kunikida supposed to be that UFO-thing in the end fight? From a Hacker9 video i remember her as a rather weak meido with purple hair.

>But what exactly triggers the good end in GHost94?

In the bottom pic you posted there is a secret destroyable wall in the room (You can get a glimpse of it if you go to the bottom of the shaft just before the high-radiation zone and do successive place rotations (L or R)).

Basically, as your nikita missile enters the room with the evidence on the table, you have to get the rocket to destroy the wall in the right rear corner (not on the little room extension in the pic with the brown floor tiles).

In order to ensure I get a direct hit, I usually make the missile do a counter-clockwise rotation of the room before aiming at the wall.

As soon as you destroy the wall, fire another missile and allow it to enter the opened room. When this happens you have a very short window of time in order for the missile to turn right inside the room and get a glimpse of the bones in the room and the diagram on the wall.

If you're successful, in game text will confirm that you saw the bones and diagram and you will get an end-event marker (like the ones you see when you complete missions).

>Also, is Kunikida supposed to be that UFO-thing in the end fight? From a Hacker9 video i remember her as a rather weak meido with purple hair.

Kunikida is the purple-haired meido, she's just riding the ship which seems to be a 3D recreation of the one in Hack9. Snort also assassinates her in the bonus mission in Ghost93 .
