Everything he claimed to translate was full of basic errors, typos, and things indicating copy/paste out of machine TL, like Japanese punctuation all over the place. However, other people, like Maria, fell on their swords for him, saying that any problems that existed were their fault and Ludo was actually great.

Eventually, Aru called him out on something and he threw a fit, claiming he had all kinds of mental problems and severe chronic amnesia so couldn't remember why he translated things (very wrongly) the way he did, and disappeared.

Technically neither. He just kind of made random edits here and there so that it would look slightly different, like how Commie basically uses the exact same translation as CR but tosses in some memes. But it was still obvious that it was the CR translation.

What even happened to TLWiki? It used to be this place where pretty much everyone went to host their translations so there was a bunch of random stuff there. Just today I found that someone was apparently using for something called "Kono Mama ja, Ane to SEX Shite Shimau!?" which never really went anywhere. Now nobody hosts any new projects there anymore, and the few that are left are practically dead. Hell, Subarashiki Hibi may be the only project that's been active on TLWiki in the past few years, and that's going to end soon. Who knows if we'll ever see another one from that site.

So what gives? People just prefer to use their own sites? Or rather, a Wordpress? Was it a problem with the administration, or what? Because TLWiki still seems pretty convenient. I have heard Dovac used to run it, though.

Can someone explain to me why some guys are trying to get localization companies to price equally both adult and all ages versions of a VN when a Steam release exists?
I find this concept ridiculous because by using it, you're pretty much saying that the adult version isn't worth any value.

MG and JAST price the adult version higher than the all ages. SP and some OELVN devs are pricing equally the two versions.

I really don't want to see this eventually being a thing with all releases with both an adult and all ages version.

It's this retarded line of reasoning that makes people do these kinds of statements. It only shows how ignorant you are.

>> No.14030074

>>14029984
A few reasons.

First is that the difference between all-ages and 18+ is usually just a patch. It is like asking why doesn't it cost 25 dollars each time WoW patches their servers? (Except you know, you can't ask them not to patch your game)

Another reason is when you talk about what the point of the game is. If you want to claim it is story based (and valid to make all-ages version of), then you admit the 18+ content is just trivial extras that are not necessary. If it is just small stuff, then the extra cost should also be small. A dollar or two perhaps, since it is less than 1% extra content.

So no, it is not that the adult version has no value, it is that the all-ages has 99% the value of an adult version. I'd be quite fine with them charging the same for all-ages as 18+ games, and made a killing. But they somehow admit normal games have to price match competition, while 18+ games are above game rules and can be priced at any level because "We'll just blame piracy for bad sales".

>> No.14030075

Prudes pay less because they get less.

>> No.14030076

The core audience of a niche product can be relied upon to pay a higher price, where as a marketplace with a much higher pool of potential customers such as steam but with far less interest or dedication to the medium requires a lower barrier of entry. The all ages/adult barrier happens to be a convenient place to draw the line, as the adult version can be seen as purchasing additional content.

>> No.14030085

>>14030076
It depends on how you view it of course. In a company driven world, it makes sense to view each scene in the 18+ game to be worth 10 dollars each and to run a DLC campaign.

In a customer driven world, the whole thing should be included to begin with, without charging extras for every single detail. For them, DLCs are just cash grabs.

>> No.14030098

The thing is that if MG or Jast just halved the price of all of their games, I doubt they would see twice the number of sales over the long run to make up for it. There just aren't enough people visiting their sites and actively looking for those products.

Steam is a different beast altogether. Consider that Sakura Spirit, Nekopara vol 1, and Go Go Nippon are the most widely owned and played visual novels on the platform, each exceeding 100,000 copies. I imagine those sales exceeds the sales of any comparable adult release by a factor of somewhere between 10x to 100x. You really have to consider them separate markets with separate rules, and with it, separate pricing.

On another note, another fucking Sakura game is on Greenlight. The thing is, as you can see on Steamspy ( http://steamspy.com/dev/Winged+Cloud ), those games have been selling less and less. Some interesting comments were tweeted recently (let's forget the pic doddler tweeted):
>steam interest is dropping fast with every new game. Unfortunately, that's affecting ALL steam vn releases.

Damn, they're back to the old artist. I actually liked the Sakura Beach one. What a waste, too, I like school swimsuits but these don't even have their names in hiragana. That's the whole appeal. Oh well, I've still got Dead or Alive.

I played Sakura Beach as my first Sakura game, and while I wouldn't describe it as an outright bad game (maybe I'm just too nice, but I found the experience pleasant), I can't deny that it's obviously not doing wonders for the public image of visual novels. So it makes me really hate Dovac and Winged Cloud for dragging VNs as a whole through the mud just to make a quick buck. Especially with SP's hate for 18+ games even though these Sakura games are goofy fanservice games that toe the line anyway.

I just hope one of MG's releases is able to save VNs on Steam before it's too late. Evangile looked like it was a good start, but we need more than that. If you remember that Reddit comment, Dovac even straight up said he intended to ruin visual novels in the west, so we're basically fighting a war here, and the question is which castle will crumble first. It's not like we need mainstream appeal, exactly, but we need enough of a core audience that it's viable to keep releasing VNs on Steam because they keep making enough money to keep us going.

>The first 6 chapters where he is forced to observe and influence the outcome of other people's romance are very standard stories you can find almost anywhere (except chapter 6, which has an extremely messed up ending, and which is a complete outlier from the rest of the VN...but it's also nonetheless cookie-cutter from the genre they borrowed it from).

>The endings of these chapters are realistic--the kind of depressing and bland realism you find in real life. The message here: "Love does not overcome everything. It is quite easily stopped by the most trivial of circumstances."
>Physical distance, obligation to one's family, the fear of losing a friendship, societal norms, non-reciprocation, physical incompatibility: all of these easily get in the way of the romantic relationships presented.

With all the attention this is getting, I'm starting to think that MG should have waited for when Yurirei was ready to be released, drop the announcement and and release it on both their site and Steam.
Since Yurirei will still take some months to be released, the hype for it will probably be less.

I was thinking that is definitely a concern myself. It probably will not be THAT long, considering how fast Maria's going (I could easily see it right at the start of next year), but people lose interest fast. If they don't have something else to reveal to draw attention to it closer to release, all this hype will have already faded and it won't do as well as it could have.

>> No.14039505

MG probably just underestimated how much interest there would be in that one and didn't think there would be such a reaction. They'll learn from this in the future, though.

The press release MangaGamer sent out (as ANN posted the press release on their press release page) had a title of "Valve and MangaGamer Breaking Down Barriers With The Uncensored Steam Release of Kindred Spirits on the Roof", along with including Kouryuu's comment and a similar comment by the general manager of MangaGamer. I would assume they sent that to all the larger press as well. They might not have known how large of a response they would get, but they certainly were trying for this response.

I'd imagine he already did that, considering how well known Euphoria is. But these sites refuse to report on their games, for whatever reason, so of course they're scared to report on something extreme like that. Yurirei gets to be an exception because it's 1) a Steam game and 2) a Steam game doing something arguably "controversial." Even though it is rather tame compared to Euphoria. But good luck getting anyone to report on Euphoria.
