So, I know there will be the occasional "ur a weeb" responses but I'm genuinely looking for some help here.

I have heard a little here and there about moving to Japan means I'll likely have to teach English and that's the best I can do in the way of a job. I know I need a degree and a couple years practice learning the language. I also looked into an internship company that said they would be willing to pick me up and bring me into the field I desire, though that's hardly a guarantee.

My question is, how likely is it for a foreigner from America like myself to actually land a job as a scriptwriter in Japanese animation? It's something I've always wanted to do since I was young and I've always been a relatively talented writer but I do know that going there and just getting into it isn't as easy as it sounds. Along with that, I hear that it is still a pretty xenophobic country, though it's getting better over time. Any advice or help anyone can offer would be sincerely appreciated!

This whole post was quite humorous, OP.
But this,
>how likely is it for a foreigner from America like myself to actually land a job as a scriptwriter in Japanese animation?
is where I simply fell off my chair laughing.

how many Japanese work as scriptwriters for hollywood? and I don't mean asian-americans, I mean literal Japs who came across the fucking pacific ocean after graduating college.

The number is roughly equivalent to the number of Americans who write for anime in Japan.

Why not turn into creating animation in the West instead?

Pros:
You already live here
You already speak English

Not like animation from the East or West is particularly stellar nowadays.

Not sure if serious, but anime companies don't have scriptwriters. Anime storylines are adapted from manga, LNs, VNs, or rarely new story written specifically for anime (Gen Uchiburo does this, he works for Nitroplus, not an anime studio). Then the series director from the anime company usually makes the screen play. Directors are usually promoted from AD or lead producer. It takes many years and is very competitive.

AFAIK there hasn't been a western mangaka that's gotten popular yet. There are a few Korean artists that are popular, but none of them have an anime. The guy who wrote No Game No Life is a half-Japanese from Brazil.

But I think in a few years we will see more foreign writers get anime. As long as you can write in Japanese, and can write something interesting, someone will want to make money off of you.

If the source material is popular, and something you can show on TV, then it will usually get an anime.

Scriptwriters don't necessarily generate storylines. Some of them just write the dialogue for a plot that's been determined by the director.
