Guys, how do I git gud at toe hoes?
I've been playing 6 on normal and keep failing.
What are the little things that I should do to improve?
Any advanced warfare tactics I need to know about?
Fullscreen or minimized?
How the fuck do I change the controls on this shit, holding Z and tab is annoying.

Hold shift for focused movement.

Yeah, I meant shift, not tab.

Ring finger on shift. Middle finger on z. Pointer finger on x. Over time you'll get more precise, just keep trying. Also cute remi pic dude.

Use vpatch. Either larger windowed (like 1280x960 or something) or fullscreen works fine.

I use pinky finger on shift, anything else makes my z finger feel bad.

Learn to stream and minimize your movement. A lot of shots are aimed at you. If you're moving all over the place, bullets are going to be flying everywhere.

Watch a run on youtube. You may see how you're completely fucking up a spot that should be brain dead easy.

Have some fun. You'll get good if you don't give up.

>What are the little things that I should do to improve?
Practice, try to get a good grip of your character until you feel confortable
>Any advanced warfare tactics I need to know about?
Practice, learn to read patterns, learn to predict were the bullet is going to land and learn to predict were is your character going to be after you move. Lean to stream aimed bullet, learn to control yourself and don't panic. Don't give up
>Fullscreen or minimized?
Is a matter of prefference, i preffer windowed because i'm always close to the screen and because most of the time i play on a laptop

>How the fuck do I change the controls on this shit, holding Z and tab is annoying.

Is a matter of getting used to it but personally i use autohotkey to remap the keys. I use DZXC as the keypad and MKL; as ZXShiftC respectivelly. Not because i find the controls annoying but because my terrible keyboard doesn't let me press some buttons at the sime This is the only combination were i can press focus, bomb and diagonal movement in every direction at the same time.

Practice
Once a touhou gets tiring to you mix it up with a different one from the series
TH9 is different but great for dodging random masses of bullets

You could start by running to the room of the three gargoyles. Push in the right tongue, and a door might lead you down the staircase into the wall climb. Here you must choose your next path. You could choose to climb into the observatory, spin the compass, and pass into the room of the golden idols. Once there, push down on their bases to release the doors. That may take you below, OR lead you into the shrine of the silver monkey. Assemble the statue there and you may be headed for the torch room! If the elevator is up, you could jump into the elevator and descend into the mine shaft. You might climb up the ladder, or plough through the stone wall. Find the key, and it may unlock the tombs of the ancient kings, allowing you to climb into the spider's lair! If you escape, you may have a chance to sit upon the throne of the pretender. If the correct door is unlocked, you'll be able to crawl into the pit of despair, and finally make your way into the cave of sighs, back to the temple gate! The choices are yours, and your alone... Good luck.

One thing that helped me a lot when I was starting out was watching replays. Watch one where they don't just spam bombs and it will give you a good idea on how you should be approaching all the specific patterns.

Cute remi pic dude. Also, learn which bullets are static, which are aimed and which are randomized, then make your own strategies on how to beat each part.

Do any of you use a controller?

Thanks for all the info guys.

The biggest problem as of now that I have is how unpredictable my characters movement is.

When I'm stationary and tap a direction key, the distance moved is almost never the same and too rapid.
Makes it really hard to dodge stuff since I always move too far and hit something else.

Is it possible to fix this with a controller or maybe hotkeying movement to the mouse?

or you could just use a keyboard like everybody else. The game was intended to used by it.

Perfect cherry blossom is a pretty good touhou for beginners I think. Difficulty scaling from 1cc normal -> extra -> phantasm is pretty good. If you manage to do that, other touhou-games on normal should be a breeze.

That's how I practised anyways.

Just because the game was made to be played with a keyboard doesn't mean that's the best way to do it.

The fact is, moving after you've been stationary is to rapid.

I'm gonna try playing with an airplane controller and see how the sensitivity is.

>>13968885
Thanks, guess I'll practice on 7, then.

clearly has problems with his current scheme and is asking for advice to "fix" it. Using the intended device would be the first step.
Not saying you cant win touhou with a fighting stick or fly with the mouse but fact is that most use keyboard and its working for them

Yeah, I'm the same guy.
Maybe I'm just too spoiled from playing osu too much. I like to be able to have control of every pixel I move.

I've been trying, but I just can't get the keyboard direction keys to be as sensitive as I want them to.

The fuck you saying double standards? Kancolle's just a fucking hollow franchise. Touhou has heart, has been around for a long fuckin' time.
There's more to talk about, that's why there's many threads.
What do you talk about for Kancolle, huh? gameplay? which soulless, pandering boatwaifu is the best? or the fact that many are drawing it only because it's popular? Tell me.

I downloaded 6 as my first game in February I think but I've only started trying to seriously play it in the last week or two, my only advice is to just set aside some time every day where you can focus solely on trying to accomplish a specific goal
For example I've been trying to finish the first three stages without losing any lives, which I can do probably 90% of the time. My next goal is to try and start Patchy's stage with six lives, and not lose any of them before getting to her so I won't be fucked for the next 2 if I slip up once or twice

Also watching videos of other people beating a part you're having trouble with lets you sort of strategize in advance

tbh i think you need to play through it as far as you can get at least 100 times before you really get the hang of it if you're just starting out. I'm probably not rven at 50 yet but at least I can get to stage 6 if I try now as opposed to not being able to get past stage 2 without constantly spamming bombs when I first played it
