DDII body and DDIII body look different. DDIII poses better but the proportions are weirder. The waste on DDIII is skinnier and elongated. When seeing the two side-by-side, I think DDII looks better. When it comes to posing DDIII is better.

KK workshop has been in the hobby, selling on ebay, for probably 12+ years now? They're pretty legit. And someone local bought one of their heads and they're pretty nice. More than I'd spend on a standard, but probably worth it.

Legit, bought a head from them off of ebay. Was shipped from hong kong, arrived fairly quick and quality is decent. The packing material used in the box were pages ripped out of a catalog for gothic lolita/emo clothings.

I don't think the quality is as good as some of the crazy high priced, artsy heads from YJA, which I also own, but they're definitely worth the price you pay for them.

Most of the dolls you see here on /jp/ are based on anime/VN/game characters and are marketed towards men. Think of them as giant figmas with eyes, hair, and clothes you can change. And once you are down the slippery slope of buying a doll of your waifu, might as well buy 3 or 4 more custom-painted heads from Y!JA and invest in lovely outfits and wigs for all of them.

The other style of doll are traditional resin BJD, which are made by the same company as the dollfie dreams. They came first and have more female collectors than male.

They're cute. Having a large physical thing is different from a avatar you design on a computer software.

If made well the doll will almost feel alive, it's probably because of their big, cat like eyes. They feel almost like pets in a way, and it does soothe me to just look at them before I leave for a stressful day at work or when I'm tired and feeling down. Feels like they look back when I look at them.

Being able to change and customize them is also a plus, and certainly fun.

Another thing is the feeling of quality. If you buy the better made clothing and doll heads, and display them properly in a glass cabinet, they look really nice. Very different from messing about with smaller figma figures like I used to.

Guesing by the size the one on the right is a Parabox 40 and the one on the left is an MDD? The knee and elbow joints don't look like Obitsu on the left one, but I'm not so amazing I can identify any doll body ever made so maybe I'm wrong.

Parabox bodies are essentially aftermarket skins on Obitsu skeletons. They come in 40cm, 45cm and 47cm from memory. The 40 is the cutest little thing. It gives the doll a more childlike appearance. If I'm honest I'm not a fan of the noodly legs on the standard 50cm body, them seem a bit too long for my dolls so I'm currently working on changing them to 47cm bodies.

I bought a random grab bag of wigs. I got this one and adore it, but it's got a black wig cap, so I'm too afraid to leave it on the head.

Indeed. Chihayas wig is the only wig from Volks I've heard the hair strands themselves can stain the doll.
