This really bothers me.
He's done touhou way before any Umineko tracks with Love Machine.
It also felt like Umineko was more of an experimental thing even though they tracks reuse a lot of what make zts iconic.
I just hoped more people that started listening to him after Umineko's popularity listened to his older works which is in many cases better in my opinion. Amazing renditions of older eroge tracks and original works besides the 2hu, too.

I'm not happy because I have a drive for completion and this stuff is overwhelming. I always listen to all XFDs and download the promising ones, instead of going to favorites and closing opportunities.

I don't have many mindless activities to do nowadays, and I like to give full focus to the music alone at least once. My music time is reduced to 2 hours in the morning and weekends. And Doujin is not my only source for new music.

Pure ZTS albums, Selfregards 2 is probably my favorite. His take on the Fate/stay night OST -- eleison -- is also nice.
He has a lot of collaboration albums with his label on it though and probably the easiest to get into are the Vague in Winter series (with Taishi in it too).
Some of my favorite single tracks come from the ones he made for the Vague albums, like Fortunately be and S. You'll end up noticing what I mean by "iconic" zts when you hear the motifs he likes to work with, like "the zts bells" and cicadas, and his distinctive warp-into-next-tune thingy if you listen to the Vague series.

I liked the Alstromeria album where the intro has some lady angrily talking about a demon coming out of your asshole or something. I never did find out if that was sampled from something else or if some insane person simply made that up for the album.

KOBATYU and Tracy were never the best though. while their tracks were decent (in addition to guest tracks from sumijun, Irus, Amane, etc), it was always Kokuchou and crouka, and later Kokuchou and Kirin (starting with Split Theory) that made the albums great.

It's like you said, Kokuchou and Kirin seem to be running out of ideas and are incorporating more mainstream EDM styles into their own. While I like a lot of mainstream EDM, it's obviously not working out as well as we'd like with these past couple albums. That said, Infect Paranoia was fucking amazing; a beacon of hope in the downward spiral since sometime around Mindless Act.

I think we just need to give them more time to find a new niche that works. I really wish they would experiment more then they are now. I've only listened through it once so far, but Wither is the only track I really like. 知恵の樹 and 永遠の水面 are solid too, but I love Tsubaki and Yura Hatsuki so that's probably a big part of it. In fact, the vocalists for ENS are all absolutely incredible, but the newer styles of arrangement don't seem to do them justice in most cases. Maybe another thing they need to fix.

TOHO DUALITY is a pleasant surprise.

I thought it was just me getting bored with ENS's style and that's why I didn't like their newer albums, interesting to see that others feel the same.

I loved their first few albums so much, sad to see that they simply fail to create catchy songs nowadays where you get an eargasm when you get to "that" part in the song. They just miss... something. They aren't bad songs, but honestly I could barely even tell them apart in the last few albums, since all but one or two tracks just lack character.

I miss Cryu, but they still have some really good singers. Chata is stellar, but they just can't write good songs for her either it seems.

Besides ENS, I always look for SYNC ART'S and SOUND HOLIC albums in Cxx spreadsheets, they rarely disappoint me. 豚乙女 (Butaotome) also has some amazing vocal songs, though some of their albums are instrumental only.

Listening to Alstroemeria Records since their early days is pretty interesting. Progression of his style of music, Mei Ayakura and nachi slowly becoming goddesses, misato and aki leaving but still singing for other circles.
I do miss some of the old AR style songs, maybe one day Minoshima will do a throwback album.
