So, Sekai Project is dying. Or at least, they'll be relegated to doing OELVNs and indie RPGs.

From a business point of view, it is probably much simpler to make money in the west if you navigate safe waters only. That means Kickstarter, Steam, and other established channels for leeching money from unsuspecting EOPs. You probably don't want some soccer mom to hit you up because a character in your game possibly doesn't look completely legal and *gasp* you can have s-s-s-sex with her!!

Very interesting. Also somewhat reassuring, cause it shows Japanese VN devs only see Western readers as an easy source of money, who'll be happy even with bad transrations... which they ultimately are, since people on Steam still have no standards and buy everything.

Hopefully future Japanese releases will stay unaffected since Japanese readers aren't as willing to take anything on the chin.

I did engine localization on LWR, and honestly the engine required almost no work beyond removing the unsupported OS warning on windows 8 and localizing strings.Seinarukana on the other hand required a silly amount of work to convert the game to support unicode, as well as working in font support and such. Still, it only took a couple months to complete.

I think the biggest issue is that QC and testing takes much longer with a gameplay title. Seinarukana has been done from a technical and translation standpoint for almost a year and a half, but testing a game that's rated at 30-40 hours per playthrough that contains multiple routes takes a long time, especially if you go back and change things. Making a silly request like "Oh, we want to adjust how this kind of skill works" suddenly causes an incredible amount of pain when it affects main game, NG+, and NG++ type runs and everything needs to be re-tested. I think we rolled back on any balancing changes at least because it wasn't realistic to make sure it worked properly.

Euphoria will come out later this year, though I don't know exactly when. I hear we just got the beta build in from Clockup, so that gives you a good idea of the current pace.

>>13877843
I think there's been some communication issues regarding the split of Kuroinu content. Liquid did a digital re-release of the game in 2013 where it was released in 3 separate parts, so the split isn't actually unique to the English version of the game. It's listed as director's cut, but I don't know what if any of the content is any different from the original. At any rate, since translation is a time consuming process, it makes sense to release each of the three parts as we finish them rather than wait the full duration to finish the whole game.

You'd literally be better starting off a new company. The lack of giving a shit probably means the internal situation behind jast is a mess. Yeti is owned by Takumi Nakazawa, the main guy behind the infinity games and I/O (but he had no involvement in 12Riven which might explain why it's a piece of shit compared to the other games).

After KID and Cyberfront died, I think it's 5pb. that owns the rights to the infinity games now since 5pb. was responsible for the abomination of an Ever17 360 port and they also sell the three infinity games on Magino Drive, but not 12Riven.

Perhaps an official release of Infinity Plus could be on the table, but priority was given to Root Double since it's newer and Regista/Yeti already had all the rights. Having Nakazawa on their side would make rights negotiations for the Infinity Plus games easier, I'd think.

Game scripts have to be extracted from compiled (and typically encrypted) archives before they can be counted. This leaves you with one or more raw text files which you can then count using a Python script or something. When people talk about script size for porn games, it's based on an assumption of 2 bytes per Japanese character. So a 5 MiB script would have 2621440 characters. (Generally this figure doesn't include speaker tags, but sometimes it does.)

Compression doesn't enter into the equation because, again, you're dealing with raw text at that point.

In general it wouldn't be "by a lot". I took a quick look at my current HCG packs, and Eroge! Sex and games was one of those in top with 350 MB art pack. So that is among the worst you can get.

A more standard bloated size for duplicating art would be in the range of 30 MB which would go for majority of the cheap ero titles.

The problem is much more the objective rating of "Is this uncensored art bad?". Because you don't need mosaic if it is good, so it is a waste to offer the choice always.

The two side stories were first released as light novels, then included in the PSP/PS2 version (and later Vita). But they're mainly a pre-reading for the fandisc, which never got its own PSP/PS2/Vita release and you're not getting it either. So the side stories are cool, but you'll be missing the actual last step.

Common pattern with English releases, fandiscs not getting localizes, localizations not being enhanced special editions etc.

The truly unfortunate part is that we can't do shit about it without Janny's support, and they don't seem to give a flying fuck about one of the board's main threads.

It's already turned into a shitfest of drama, approximately half of the posts here are about retarded SP drama that only people who read translated VNs care about, and we've somehow picked up multiple people who couldn't sage if their fucking life depended on it, so the threads are getting ridiculously high turn-over.

Hell, we're even getting 'best girl' shit already:

https://archive.moe/jp/thread/13851936/#q13852331

The point of a limited thread is to force people to actually post something fucking relevant, make a consequence for shitting up the thread with meaningless drama by making them wait for the next thread; having run-on drivel like this dilutes it to the /vg/ shit people are 'escaping from'.

Reading 5th chapter now and so far almost all text was translated. maybe 3-4 lines total were still in japanese randomly, and all choice popups after the first chapter were still in japanese but you can just pick one and figure out what it was from the context and load. Or just look at the log.

The novel is excellent so far. The first route I did in the 4th chapter made me fall in love with the depressed autistic /k/ommando Kimika. The 2nd route of that chapter left me depressed enough to pick up smoking.

Moogy decided to add or take out stuff that was in the Japanese in order to fit how he wanted to write it. Moogy has a better command of the English language, and he seems to be well-versed in Japanese, but the translations shown there are just as much an insult to the original text as Ixrec's.
