The mother screamed as she saw her child die.

She put her other hand inside the mother’s chest and pulled it in two. Sakuya would have to clean the floor again, she reminded herself. The ‘father’ jerked again, weeping. You could almost have seen words in his eyes. We didn’t know, forgive us.
“Forgive you? I think not.” She pushed her fingers into its eyes and they caved in like soft fruit. Pushed in deeper. Deeper, until her fingers were drenched in the thing’s blood.

“Ara ara, what’s going on here? I though I only asked you to have a talk with them, Remilia?” She turned to the door, her hand still impaling the human’s brain.

“Oh, Yuyuko. I found the humans who stole your yukkuris.” Remilia gave a quick turn of her hand, then pulled out a large chunk of cerebral matter.

“I’ve got more I could have shared with you, you know. It’s not like yukkuris are uncommon… You don’t even eat them, do you? And what would Reimu say if she found out?”

Remilia shrugged.
“It’s the principle of the thing,” she said loftily, “the fact that they stole what was going to be mine made them targets for execution. The shrine maiden won’t find out, this bunch of fools was living alone in the woods – only idiots and people ASKING to die would do that. Anyway, I’m done here. I heard Yomu was making some nice preparations for the party… Sakuya, there’s some cleaning to be done!”

You can vary temperature, humidity, brightness, etc. The yukkuri's condition would be based on stats in hunger, thirst, body temperature, physical integrity (injuries from torture make it more susceptible) and moisture content (get it up to 100% humidity and melt your yukkuri).

Hmm, I should add that fatigue would be another variable. If you keep it light for too long, or if you give it really short dark cycles, the yukkuri won't sleep and will become catatonic eventually.

So you have physical health and mental health. Everything you do subtracts or adds to one or the other, with some things affecting one type of health more than the other. Eventually, you'd be able to completely mutilate the yukkuri, or drive it murderously insane.

It might also be interesting to add other yukkuris for breeding and torture purposes (seeing another yukkuri tortured drops the mental health level).

Well, if you're going to do that, having the yukkuri's physical and mental health capacity grow as it does will cover some of that. For example, a newborn yukkuri would have 10 HP, and if a finger poke does 1 damage, you could poke it a lot to kill it, which makes sense. But, if an adult yukkuri has 10K hp, poking it basically does jack shit to it. Almost everything would be fatal to a newborn yukkuri, whereas an adult would have enough of an HP buffer that you'd have to really beat the shit out of it to kill it.

Also, healing should be based off of positive stimuli like feeding or patting, not just a time-based thing. It would be annoying to have the yukkuri healing while you're trying to kill it, unless you're giving it sugar water or something.

My only complaint with the fruit, and I already raised it, is that it doesn't seem practical; I'd assume it'd make the yukkuri way too top heavy (much moreso then the tendrils, and even those have to slow down the yukkuri), plus it should drain a LOT more nutrients from the yukkuri, making having more than 1 fruit at a time impossible.

And then you get something like this which is just ludicrious.

I really don't mind evolution. It'd be stupid to think they'd remain static over time. It's when the artists completely changes their nature just to get them killed (frequently by each other) that I complain.

I'm opposed to yukkuri having bodies at all, really. The way I see it, yukkuri are heads. So some fucked up remilia with a body shouldn't be called a yukkuri at all.

Suddenly growing a body like that also isn't something I'd call evolution. The fruit is a yukkuri dealing with predators, although the change came ridiculously fast and as I said, really shouldn't work as well as it does.
bodied remiryas really don't have any advantages over head ones. Both are predators, and the heads have been shown to eat a whole yukkuri. I don't know why makako decided to give remirya a body, but it just made it look disgusting. The heads are at least kinda cute. There really is no reason for them to have bodies, and it makes them so far removed from the non-bodied yukkuri you wonder why they're even called yukkuri at all. Hell, in the early days of those things, the wiki mentioned that the bodied remirya was actually the real Remelia, infected with some kind of yukkuri virus.

Uuuh. How about hands and legs?
In a fight between a bodied Remilia, and a body-less Remilia, either smaller, or the same mass, I'd bet on the bodied one- with legs it has more mobility, and arms give her more options for attack. The body-less just rams with its face attempting to bite. Even if it did manage to bite, the bodied would just rip it's eyes or wings with its free hand.

A bodied Remilia can reach into a hole or cave with its hand, or pick up a weapon of some sort.

I don't think I've ever seen a bodied remirya flying very far either. Only them as children, hovering around the adults. head remiryas I've seen flying in for the attack. bodied remiryas are also too retarded to use any kind of weapon. I really don't think the bodied remirya has the advantage over the head one, even in a fight, as the head one can fly while if the bodied one attempts to fly, assuming it's even able to, the larger mass and less regular body type will severely limit it's mobility.

Notice how the bodied Remilia is 6 or more times larger (mass/volume) than the bodyless one. If the bodyless one was this huge, she wouldn't fit in the hole either. Actually, the bodied one should be able to crawl into the hole too, she was just too lazy.

Flying takes a lot of energy, so the body-less would get tired faster in a fight.
And the bodied Remilia wouldn't need to fly, she could just wait for the opponent to get in range, and use her longer reach and manueverability. (Pushing with feet against earth is more efficient than pushing against air with wings.)

The fact that the bodied ones are more retarded and unable to use their advantages doesn't mean the body isn't one.

Besides, we're missing the point here.

Evolutionary change doesn't happen because it's beneficial or needed. It just happens randomly. If it turns out to be beneficial then the new version prospers.

And the bodied ones could be the oryginal, and losing the body could be a mutation.
