Marisa: Let's take it easy, ze!
Alice: Huh? You're taking it easy again? I can't help it, can I...
Cirno: Easy? I don't really get it, but I'll take it easy for you!
Meiling: It should be easy, correct?
Mokou: Hm? If you mean easy, let's take it.

I guessed that it was you. The way you worded the questions, I think.

The small manju would be soggy on the bottom and would be weak on that point. The water may absorb it's way up higher, but the bottom of the manju would be the weakest point.

Maybe a tear, perhaps some leakage.

Hooray, I'm a celebrity!

I assume that's after 10 minutes of a manju of about that size sitting in water of that depth? What about the ridiculous question about bathing a manju?

From the sound of it, it wouldn't even take 10 minutes in a decently strong downpour to kill a yukkuri. Maybe not enough to melt them immediately, but they'd be soggy enough to fall apart if they tried to move.
A short bath like the one in the cute images is probably also possible; if it doesn't last long then the yukkuri's regeneration should heal any swelling fairly quickly, since there'd be no loss of mass.

Thanks.

They're big enough to identify them by, and most of the translations make it clear. I had over 20 of these thumbnails, but I managed to narrow it down to these 4 by crawling through every single page of the yukkuri search result on pixiv. I even managed to find this one from the thumbnail and description.

Hahaha. Yeah, I remember the last couple of discussions we've had in this topic series.

It's totally possible to bathe a yukkuri, even in hot water. Just make sure it's in for a shorter time the hotter the water is.

Also, when I said maybe a tear or leakage, that's a low chance of it happening. It'll be fine it if just gets out carefully and dries off in a safe spot of soft grass while eating something.

Time for yet another rant on contradictions!

A yukkuri's headband is typically made of bean paste. They're described as being alive, and related to the yukkuri, and growing with the yukkuri. It couldn't grow if it was made of cloth. They're also usually edible, which cloth certainly isn't.

That is how they're typically portrayed. Then there's a few comics where they seem to be made of cloth. >>1376665 is probably an example of this, but the horrid translation of the 4th panel makes it unclear. Did alice take Reimu's ribbon and try sewing it into something else? Did alice try to make a new ribbon out of cloth?
In the end of Kind Mother Reimu, the mother and alice's accessories are all that remain in the rain, implying that they're cloth and not bean paste, as bean paste would've melted (I'm sure that was intended to be symbolic, and to make it clear that they did melt, but whatever). There's also a comic by the swirley eyes where Reimu makes reimu a new ribbon out of cloth, but does a poor job.

Furthermore many depictions of Dosus have them wearing multiple ribbons. The one story involving a Master Sparking Dosumarisa explicitly said that it got the ribbons from it's followers... which doesn't make sense. Where did they get spares? They'd certainly never give up their own.

And there's this, where as far as I can tell, a marisa grows a new hat. That would seem to make the whole 'My hat is more precious then my life' bit stupid; I might say that I'd rather lose my life than both my arms and legs, but I certainly would NOT say that if I could regrow my arms and legs.

to answer your question, it depends on the artist because they can't make up their fucking minds.

Yes. Longer. Not indestructable. Consider the image posted in the last thread of a marisa and ko-s using the marisa's hat as an umbrela. It started to melt.

Consider how melted the reimu and alice are. They're gone. There is nothing left. Now look at the accessories. No damage. This is from a hard rain. They don't clear up quickly, and the impact of the rain would speed up any damage done. And yet, the accessories remain completely intact. How is that possible if the accessories dissolve in water?

The reason I want yukkuri to have some consistency is because I honestly think it would be better that way.

Most images appear to have started with an idea about how to kill or abuse something, and then created yukkuri with specific biology and psychology to match the actions. Consider this; a yukkuri sees a yukkuri not wearing a hat so it quickly attacks it. If another yukkuri would attack with such vigor simply because the hat is not on the head, why would it EVER take it's hat off like >>1376878 mentioned to make a boat? What about the chinese accessory comic; where the siblings and mother attack another for not having a hat, but in Tunusa's invasion comic they're shown without having hats at all. Then there's >>1376837; if you can grow a new hat, why risk attacking another yukkuri for it's hat?
The reason is because some author thought it'd be cool to have one yukkuri take it's hat, get immediately attacked, and then have the attacker realize what it's done when the hat falls back onto the beaten corpse'. You can't do that with the yukkuri in Tunusa's comic or any where they use boats. So the author created two new yukkuri that would behave in this way.

Then there's the birthing methods. Take this for example. I'm not going to say this was the beginning of mammalian birth, jsut an example. You cannot do something like this with the tendril method. There are several other abuse examples you need the mammalian method to do. The author decided to create yukkuri that could reproduce this way just so they could injure them with an idea that didn't apply to the idea of yukkuri reproducing via tendrils. That is what I mean by them 'making shit up as they go along'. It's like deciding that a human's face exploding is awesome, so you draw a comic where punching someone's face causes it to explode. There are examples of this, but they at least bother to explain it away with 'superpowers lol'.

Then there's my other issue. Consider the amount of force used to shoot the ko- out. Do you think it would've survived anyways, if it wasn't shot? So what's the point of shooting it in the first place? Why bother killing something that can't even survive on at all, and only exists because there appears to be a completely inexhaustable supply of them?

The can use them as boats and not be shunned because the hats are still on the yukkuri, just not on top of their heads.

The first comic with the "hatless are shunned" aspect had a Marisa that wanted to show alice her impersonation trick. When she threw her hat into the air to give her Alice impersonation, the Alice stomped her because the hat was nowhere to be found. When the hat floated down onto the body, Alice saw what was once a monster revert back to her friend and cried.

As long as the hat is on the yukkuri, regardless of location, the yukkuri should be fine.

If you ask about how the can sense whether or not the hat is on the yukkuri's body...

It's magic.

The reimus also don't have the big ribbon on the back of the head, only the things around the hair on the front.

The thing is that the yukkuri in Tunusa's comic are completely different from those in the chinese accessory. In the latter they recognize it's a yukkuri, but can't even fathom that it could be their daughter/sister, and seem to have no problem with one completely disappearing at the end. That is what I mean by creating new yukkuri to fit the idea of abuse.

>>1377153
Have the artists create something they can call a canon. Expect them to follow it. There is of course no way to actually enforce them, but so what? There's tons of touhou doujins that make absolutely no sense in the context of touhou's canon (about everything from Hole of Yago comes to mind). These are not shunned. The difference is that if HoY draws a doujin where Marisa, Reimu, and Alice grow up together as children, it does not become part of touhou fanon. It is simply doujin that exists on it's own and affects nothing else. If someone draws a yukkuri shooting a ko- out like a cannon, then that can be added to part of fanon by repeating it enough time. Just like forcing a meme.

Why?
Let's say someone comes up with a really awesome story or comic that requires something new or violating the established canon. Like a body. Or mammalian birth. Or penipeni. Or different memory or attention span, different pain tolerance or whatever. Would you rather him not post it, even though it is awesome?

I'd rather see it.

I didn't like the peni-peni at first, but it grew on me.

>> No.1377539

I kinda know what you mean though. I was like that too. I was greatly annoyed at any incosistencies.

Like, one day MickeyMouse, DonaldDuck and Goofy live together in a trailer, next catroon it's middle ages and Mickey is hunting dragons, then Donald is a sailor, and next he owns a giant apple plantation. And the nephews, sometimes they're juvenile delinquents, or they're junior Woodchucks and save the day, and sometimes they're not there. Even their colors may vary.

And then you get Ducktales and everything is even more different!
Even within the Ducktales-verse comics things don't get any more consistent. Sometimes Donals is trying to get cash from Scrooge. Sometimes Scrooge is trying to get free lunch at Donald's, and sometimes he's sending him on quests. Mickey may be living next doors or in another city. Donald has a secret super-hero persona... or not. He may be in great debts and on the run from his creditors. Or he may be a president of globe-trotter club. Sometimes there's that witch, and other people.

Make up your mind!
RRRRAAAAGEEE!!!

And then I realized it's not important.
The characters are shortcuts for basic personality types. Mickey good, Goofy is goofy, Donald is short tempered, ect.; they are are there so you get into the story easier, so you don't see a new face-name combo, but someone familiar, and you know more-or-less what to expect. So the author doesn't have to provide a detailed backstory, only perhaps the details he needs. But the characters are subservient to the story- if they need to be adjusted for it's sake, they are.

The purpose is making good stories. The canon (at least in these kind of works) is not a weight to keep the story down, but a ramp to give it a quick start.

I write way too fucking much

beyond that, I'd want the japanese to make their own standards. If they have a problem with peni peni and it's just one or two artists forcing it, then say "Yukkuri do not have organs. No more peni peni". There's no reason why the japanese can't just say they like both mammalian and tendril birth, or even bring back some of the old asexual ones. There's also no reason why they couldn't just completely ignore the issue and leave it completely up to the artist to decide specific things. The point is that it would create SOME guidelines, but not so many it'd be restrictive.

Honestly, my real complaint is the nonsensical/illogical where you see them suddenly killing each other, like the author couldn't think of a better way for them to die. >>1377072 is an example.

Again, because I think it would be better. Some of those things would never be part of any kind of canon (Or different memory or attention span, different pain tolerance or whatever; I'm sure others were mentioned as well). I don't want some kind of insanely restrictive canon like "IF A MARISA ENCOUNTERS A REIMU, IT WILL EITHER COERCE IT INTO MARRIAGE OR KILL IT FOR FOOD". I mean something about the strength of Touhou's canon. You get basic guidelines of characters and some relationships. Just about everything else is left up to the fans. You certainly don't see the touhou doujinshi market struggling with a restrictive canon.

The only thing I really want concrete (as in, unable to change something once written, but more can be added later, primarily when new touhous are created) is their identity; namely which touhous have yukkuri counterparts, what they're made of, if they have a body (I'd prefer a specific type either always having a body or never having one, but the japanese seem to prefer possibility of both for several), catchphrases (i.e. Youmu's "DIIIIIICK", Marisa's "Drop dead easy!", Patchoulis were once said to only be able to say "Mukyu"), and stuff along those lines.

You mean fanon-canon, right? Because touhou doujinshi are "struggling" with canon. (like, when was the last time you saw not-gluttony Yuyuko?)

And if you mean fanon-canon, I think the yukkuri-canon is about that level of strength already.
For example is Sakuya gay for Remilia, tsundere for China, or something else?

And let's not get into limits of powers of manipulation of every-damn-thing.

Not quite struggling. There is a touhou canon that only ZUN can change (supposedly unaffected by the fanon... that much would be true for any other franchise but probably not totally true for touhou), and a touhou fanon that is based on the canon and on the fanon. Doujin authors/artists interpret the characters based on the canon and on the fanon. The canon gives the basis and the existing fanon fills in some of the gaps, the rest is up to the author. They are not 'struggling' because it is accepted that the canon is authority. Direct, blatant violations are quite rare, excluding things that aren't supposed to follow it, like Hole of Yago stuff (and every porn doujin). If it follows the canon, then it is added to the fanon and other works will be based off it. That is why you have frequently reoccuring things like Sakuya being pedo for Remilia, Alice being a tsundere, Meiling being lazy and punished by Sakuya (Does not occur in EoSD unless it happens in the extra endings, which I can't get to. Meiling does not appear in any of the 4 normal endings and is not in the ending for any other game).

>> No.1377816

(fucking did it again)
That is what I mean by creating a canon; it would give people a basis to start with. Right now, the canon is yukkuri are edible heads (that sometimes have retarded bodies) based on touhous with annoying personalities. That's pretty much it. And there is stuff that violates this; anything featuring non-touhou yukkuri or the really whimsical ones like >>1377243 are clearly not following what little canon there actually is. Again, this does not mean people can't continue drawing those images. The change is that no one thinks that yukkuri have the ability to float over a city, even though there is an image of them doing that. However, because there are images of patchouli having a body, which does NOT violate the canon, there is a fanon basis for other people to give patchouli a body. If there was a canon that said "Patchouli types do not have a body", it would be treated like the other nonsense images. It would only exist on it's own and would NOT affect fanon and therefore would not become a basis for future work.

>> No.1377860

>>1377816

No, there would just be people saying "Patchouli types don't have bodies."

People will still draw them if the like how the Patchouli's look with bodies. Just because someone puts up rules on how things are going to be done doesn't mean everyone else is going to follow suit.

That's what I really don't like. To me, that's just really shitty writing. Like someone decided "I can't think of a plausible way to make one yukkuri kill another, so I'm going to throw reason out the window". It just seems like the horrible contrived shit you'd see in terrible GRIMDARK fanfiction (not that I read the stuff. Just using it as an example). Someone else had said a long time ago that it's just bad writing and no amount of canon could make up for that, but I still disagree; I honestly think that if they couldn't just make so much shit up all the time that you'd get less of this contrived shit.

Except I'd want the artists/authors themselves to get together on IRC or something and decide the shit. Something like posting on Futaba or sending messages to their pixiv that they're going to create a canon. Maybe not even just limited to the artists. The point is that they'd decide their own limitations, so it'd be strange for them to not follow them. If they were in the minority opinion or simply did not take place, like I said, they could ignore the decision. The difference is that enough people follow the canon, works that do not follow the canon will not affect later works; they will not become part of the canon.

For whatever reason, it's accepted that Reimu and Marisa types do not grow bodies. There's an image of a reimu growing arms and legs (not like a remirya; just really thin arms and legs coming right out of the head) and scratching itself. However since it violates their canon, you don't see any other instances (except maybe others by the same artist I haven't seen). It is treated like the images of yukkuri in space or floating over cities; nonsensical, but fine existing on their own.

Touhou has got to be the least serious game I've ever played. The entire premise of the danmaku is that they're just playing a game with each other, and no one will actually ever die from it. Then, after Reimu defeats each villian, they have tea. How the hell is that serious? Plus, most of the stage bosses are people that have nothing to do with the final conflict. The only reason they fight is because you have to fight someone at the end of each stage.

>You seem to be missing the fact that EVERYTHING yukkuri related is nonsensical, but fine existing on its own.
I don't see why that means that it shouldn't make sense in relation to itself. Touhou does that at least somewhat. The shrine maiden can't be killed, but youkai still need to use their powers, so she created the spell card rules. That makes sense in it's own context (mostly). Most yukkuri stuff contradicts something from another artist and a few contradict themselves.

In addition to being the fan-name for Youmu's ghost half, 'Myon' is also the name (western, at least) for a yukkuri youmu.
Thus the statement about Myon being soft is, in fact, a statement about Youmu being soft.
This is a result of a cropped image from a doujin, where Yuyuko accused Youmu of being too soft (and not in the physical sense). This SINGLE instance of Youmu being called soft led to her being called the softest, etc, throughout an annoying meme, much like alice leeking poop, which is also from a single doujin (a left to right doujin, none the less. The ghost half isn't completely incorporeal like a standard ghost is, though. (Ghosts without physical form like Mima and Yuyuko are incorporeal.)
So it must be partially human.
Likewise, her human half must be partially ghost.
Ergo, Yumu sho shoft.

Also, who takes Touhouwiki as canon?
Honestly I don't see anything about Yukkuri factories or TRIPLE X FIRERED YUKKURIS in practice and have only seen them mentioned there.

Thanks a lot, I guess I'll ask for a translation for that bubble then.

By the way, could the person who is editing the string of images translated lately try using a different font for some of the SFX? The stars help out a bit, but it would look a bit nicer if the font was a little different (like pulling something from a free font site like dafont or getfreefonts).

Though I have to say that editing the Alice mob one was pretty cool of you to do.

31. While returning home from the grocer's, Anon encounters a strange yukkuri. It's a bit red, and it speaks very quickly. It approaches him, and he offers it a bit of food. It instantly jumps and devours it in one bite. He notes that it's a yukkuri that doesn't take it easy. "I'm Reimu!!! I take it easy three times more, so I'm triple Reimu!!!" It wants to go home with him, He initially objects, since it looks like it eats a lot, but then it promises that it'll get its own food. On the way home, it runs faster than him. He thinks that if he breeds it, he'll make a lot of money.Oddly enough, it doesn't think of his house as its own, and it keeps its promise to not break anything. Apparently, it doesn't have any friends due to its uniqueness. He even sneaks a bite when it's sleeping, and it turns out to be salty. A while later, a Reimu/Marisa couple sneaks in, acting like normal yukkuris. They start teasing Triple, infuriating it. However, when they taunt Anon, Triple snaps and pounds the hell out of them, and then proceeds to eat them. (For some reason, it notes that they're megassa tasty.) It's also quite obedient and loyal. He then takes it to the factory to discuss the matter of breeding it. They put it in a cage with another Yukkureimu, which it superfucks. The normal Reimu grows a tendril, from which a number of Triples grows right away. They start speeding around. Triple says that it'll raise its babies there, so Anon should go home alone. He sells it to the factory, and they give him a baby as a bonus. He goes home with the baby, and finds a few yukkuris in his yard, taking it easy like the place belonged to them. He calls out to them, offering them sweets, and then crushes them. The baby wakes up, jumps down and starts eating them. Oddly enough, it says "Itstasty!!! Misteryoushouldeatsometoo!!! Letseatittogether!!!" A selfless yukkuri? Impossible.

There is no reason to assume that making Myon physical necessarily detracts from Youmu's body.

37. The factory employees have gotten their hands on a rare Remirya, and plan a certain transfusion. They shave a Yukkureimu, cut off the top part of its head, and extract more than half of its bean paste. (It only woke up towards the end, and since it had lost so much of its body, all it could do was drool like a retard. They then inject the bean paste into a screaming Remirya (they're meat buns, so it's like injecting orange juice into a human). It dies, and a tendril sprouts from it, from which Remiryas and Yukkureimus are born. The experiment was a great success.

39. Remirya and (yukkuri) Flandre are living in the SDM, being doted upon by everyone, but they've never gone out. One night, on a full moon, Remilia and Sakuya were missing, so they sneak out. They find a family of Yukkureimus and Yukkurisas in a nest. The mother bites off Remirya's wings, but Flandre kills it. They then proceed to slaughter the rest. They are then discovered by a group of factory employees, who wanted the yukkuris they ate, but are quite satisfied with this catch as well. They take them to the factory, luring them with the promise of sweets, and throw them into a cage with about 20 Yukkureimus and Yukkurisas, who gang up on them and start eating them. They can't do anything against so many grown ones. The employees tell them not to eat them all, so they'll regenerate. "Okay, mister!!! This way we'll have all the food we want!!!". They then take the two out of that caga and put them in another room, where yukkuri Alices are reproducing. As soon as the babies are born, the employees put the two in the same cage. The babies proceed to devour them, but the employees stop them at the last moment. The two are now going to spend the rest of their lives as a food source. They should have stayed at the SDM.

69. A new yukkuri repellent, a form of incense, has recently become very popular, especially among farmers. One group of Reimu-Marisa-Chen-Myon attempt to ravage a field, but get driven away by the incense. Upon hiding in a cave, and while discussing how horrible that was, they get caught by the factory guys with a net and taken to a room. One of the employees brings them a box, which they think contains food, but it actually contains incense. Still in the net, they can do nothing but scream. The man takes the Reimu out, but before it can thank him he puts it into the incense box. It starts throwing up its bean paste. The other yukkuris are going crazy, some throwing up and some eating the vomited bean paste. In the end, the Reimu has shrunk to a tiny size, but it's still alive. The man crushes it, rolls up its skin on a stick, and puts its accessory on the end. He then puts the Chen in the box, and lights that stick. The Chen starts screaming, and the other two are laughing like maniacs, driven insane by the incense. The materials used for its production are the best kept secret of the factory; skin and accessories of yukkuris.

73. The factory has announced five new products. We would like to invite you all to test them.
1) Instant Yukkuri Soup. A package with a small hole, containing rice and a live koyukkuri. All you have to do is pour boiling water into the hole. You may consider the screams as an elegant BGM, and when they stop, your soup is ready.
2) Bagged Yukkuris
A large number of koyukkuris in a bag. Saves you the trouble of carrying them seperately. Depending on your taste, you may eat the first one in front of the others, so the horror makes their bean paste sweeter, or you can eat them secretly, to keep the babylike sourness.
3) Capsule Yukkuri
Not food, but entertainment. Newborn yukkuris in a small tube with holes, through which you can pour orange juice to feed them. (Scientific research has shown that they can survive with only orange juice, but they won't grow larger.) When they grow up, they will trust you completely, so even if you tell them to eat each other they won't object.
4) Iced Yukkuri
A box with one Cirnoff in each corner. Place a yukkuri in the middle and leave it overnight. (You may want to cover it with something to stifle the screams.) The next morning, you can file it and obtain a wonderful topping for many sweets.
5) Instant Remirya
A Remirya in a special box. All you have to do is immobilize it, and eat the parts you want. If the screaming bothers you, a special soundproof mask is included.
We hope you enjoy or new line of product

Re: "This shit's good"
The problem I have with the phrase is that it's overly bad language. The original Japanese isn't actually bad language, just sloppy and not polite.

The difference is that "U'me! Me'ccha u'me!" is something that would be acceptable in informal contexts. For example, a ten-year old eating his mom's meal could say that and the mother wouldn't mind, actually she would like it, but most English-speaking mothers wouldn't accept them saying "shit" at all, let alone in reference to their food.

Also, the Japanese phrase sounds childish - in fact it's supposed to be koyukkuris saying something that you'd hear small kids say - and most kids don't say "shit", around adults at least. "This shit's good" sounds too adult, or tough.

One thing I've wondered about is if yukkuris are able to tell apart different individuals of the same type. Can someone give examples that might clarify this issue? Even contradictory examples will do.

I was thinking about the "Kind mother Reimu" being executed, but that one could be interpreted as the mother Reimu being constantly watched by Marisa until taken to trial, so they know it was that one. If the mother Reimu had run away and pretended to be another Reimu, would they know which one was her by looking?
