So, I use photoshop for scanlation and other small stuff. Part of the deal is that one needs to edit the "host" file inside C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. Doing so messes up with the way KCV works. Reverting the host file to how it used to be fixes this situation.

Extremely so. I don't think there's any map where your composition would be optimal.
Carriers should (almost) always be in bottom because they're useless in night and you lose their turn. As you play more you will know when exceptions should be made.
2DD2BB is a strange mix, one would rather go for CAs which are good all around choice unlike expensive BBs or weak DDs but it could work if you want to focus on leveling those specific girls. As other anon said, everything depends on map.
Generally you should put heaviest hitters near top so they have bigger chance of killing opponents quickly in second shelling, unless you're going for MVP control but that would be very hard with low levels.

If you haven't done that already, I strongly advise reading Combat page and keeping it in the bookmarks, there's surprisingly lot to mechanics for this "roll a dice and watch results" simulator. Feel free to ask any questions.

DDs are very bad choice for 2-4 because they are fragile, you should use ships that don't get taiha'd in one shot by opposing BBs. 4BB2CV is "go to" composition for steamrolling the map but you don't need such power to be honest if you're willing to take a couple more tries.
