Outside of some special cases you're generally better off using double 12.7s or the 10cms with a non-torpedo item for the third slot. This allows for double attack in night battle which gives more damage.

The torp stat also gets calculated into the night time shelling damage though, which is what causes DDs to do so much at night.

4 buckets used, decided to wait for repairs for the most part and sparkle everyone for every run. Took around 12 runs to clear, used 1CL 4DD 1AV except for final kill since I saw a nip with 3CL 1DD 2AV having good results. Final kill took just two tries with this fleet and I got Unryuu as drop, good luck to anyone struggling with it and I recommend this composition even if it requires you to visit node F, can even sink the Tas with daytime shelling with this.

And that's the part to which I replied. Fighter-bombers are perfectly viable and don't affect damage output that much. Kaga needs Suisei Egusa to go over the cap BUT even with fighter-bomber she deals 136 damage. I wouldn't call that "shooting peas". Hiryuu and Taihou go over the doukousen cap while Souryuu is very close to it. On Hiryuu there's mere two points difference in damage between fighter bomber and Suisei Egusa.
