Any good VN that talk more about the 'daily life' side of gender bender?
Every time I pick a new one it's either nukige-tier "Oh no, I guess being a girl means I must consume ALL THE COCK" or it's really stupid in its execution.

I wouldn't even care if it was a nukige, but I'm really itching for a VN that actually feels like someone turned into a girl and slowly learned how to enjoy pretty dresses and living like that, instead of being a trite doujinshi cliche salad.

I tried vndb, but I tried VNs already, and so far even the non-nukige ones have been quite bad.
Anyone have anything good to reccomend?

I have already played the whole X-Change series, most recently X Change Alternative2-キミノヒトミニウツルキミ-, as well as the most 'popular' ones, so I'm more looking for hidden gems.

>> No.13664592

>>13664563
I don't think there are that many. Games about fetishes are usually nukige, after all. It's the same thing with pretty much all fetish material in general so you'll have to deal with what you have. You may be able to find some doujin works on DL site, but don't expect AAA quality.

>> No.13664597

>>13664592
Unfortunately, doujin works seem to be even worse in that aspect, barely having any narration between sex scenes.
I guess X-Change Alt 2 has spoiled me, it had the perfect amount of 'getting used to life' and actual good VN-tier narration between H-scenes, so now I'm struggling to enjoy other works when they're so obviously inferior.

>> No.13664609

I'll never have a satisfying eroge that deals with the insane amount of trust and affection that can go into BSDM between two people who love each other and how it can be used to build and develop a relationship ;_;

Yeah, I've personally brooded about this before as well.
Since I've seen what NanaKao can do without even being explicit most of the time there truly is some good potential there for an eroge. It's a shame.

>> No.13664620

>>13664609
That'd involve depicting sex as an actual important facet of a relationship, and eroge developers apparently can't deal with that. An H scene can only be the prize once you finish a route.

There will never be a decent VN about the friendship between a newly turned into a girl teenager and his, now her, girl friends who will teach her all that's needed about being a girl, with alternative routes of either recognizing that even as a girl you want to be together with one of those friends, becoming closer than you could ever be as man and woman in a relationship of pure love, or realizing your new girly heart beats for your previously best friend, now love interest ;__;

Definitely hyped for it.
The trial was good, MC is super fun to read and his chemistry his girlfriend is pretty good and so is with the rest of the cast.
The story seems to be way darker than I expected though investigating the death of Kaho's friend three years ago which is rumored to be a double suicide with one of her 'clients' as she was paying her studies with her body.
There's also the owner of the inn, Touko, who services clients for free and asks Shigeaki to fuck her for the key to the dead friend's room. It's either fucking her or fucking your girlfriend for the first time, which seems to be an actual route since it doesn't lead to a bad end despite not investigating anything.
Also the daughter kind of gives service too but doesn't go to the end and the uniform girl who is probably fucking some old fart for money the night the trial lasted.

Left at a pretty interesting point too, the only thing bothering me right now is the nose placement, fucking terrible half of the time.

Currently going through Miyako's side story in Oretsuba Prelude. It's been a good time since I felt so engaged in a story and its characters. I didn't pay much attention to the hype but turns out all the praise is true; The writing makes everyday conversations and situations much more colorful and interesting than they would be in the hands of someone else. The MC's narrations are really detailed but in a way that shows a lot about their personalities and their way of looking at their surroundings; while different and longer than usual (for moege), it's a pleasure to read through. Taking in account only the events of the game, it shouldn't be anything special, just your regular high school SoL, yet the writing makes it incredibly entertaining (and quite funny sometimes too). If the main game keeps up these points then it certainly may end up being one of my favorite titles.

I'm pretty sure there aren't that many as you're talking about mostly adult medium. If you need a lot of help, manga is always simpler to read than a mostly literary medium. That said, most moege/charage are rather simple to read as long as you know grammar and have basic volcabulary (both of which you should have before trying even the simplest VNs).

There are a few unique CGs for Mana and Tonfa in 3gakki FE though in little mini-routes they have. The trial for fairytale requiem was pretty interesting.
You rarely see what amounts to actually insane characters hallucinating the whole game with a proper plot to back it up. Odile and Odette made me really curious since they have two endings in the library and Gerda was probably the best.
Art was really fitting too, it was extremely normal when it needed to be and super colorful for the rest, it's funny that people that aren't heroines. Music was nice too, even if I kinda hope they use some classic pieces for the routes, they all have operas, maybe not Rapunzel, and I think those are free.

Opinion: Faceless protagonists are the worst thing in VNs

Not ony do they make any relationship between the MC and the other characters incredibly bland, it just takes me out of the story so much when CG pictures are incredibly awkward in how they're clearly made to not show the face of the MC in convoluted ways, making him face away from the 'camera', having things in front of his face, or the ever-dumb "My hair over my eyes is a curtain of impassable darkness".

Not at all. I'm obviously not referring to heavy book-like plot driven VNs, in which the MC has to be an actual character.
And I'm not even going to the opposite side, playing moege and expecting deep plots.

What I'm complaining about are the VNs in the middle, the ones that could have an interesting story, but they feel like a dish in which someone forgot the salt, since the complete lack of any personality and appearance of the MC makes the whole thing bland.

Most games where the protagonist actually matters give him at least some kind of personality, even if he can be a bit bland due to being a perspective character. Whether he has a face or not seems to be up to the artist most of the time though. I've even seen games where the protag actually has a face but it just keeps disappearing for most CGs.

Still, I wonder what you mean by "VNs in the middle" considering we're talking about genres, unless you use moege to refer to anything but really heavy edgy stuff like this thread sometimes tends to.

To be honest, having read enough games with insufferable protagonists, sometimes to the point where I just can't bring myself to finish the game, I've grow to appreciate a bland protagonist in some games.

>> No.13681085

I think an important distinction to make is whether the protagonist is actually a character in his own right, or if he exists purely as a (static) medium by which to interact with the female characters. I don't see the point in hating static mediums. The game wouldn't be improved, necessarily, by having an actual character get in the way of moe.

I know there is some VN in which you could consider the MC to be 'superfuous', but that's exactly while I likened it to a dish missing salt.

In a VN with a bland/inexistent MC you can still feel the taste, you can still appreciate the plot. But the MC is the eyes through which the story is told, the one whose thoughts should give a particular lens through which the story is seen.
If you're going to give me a faceless protagonist, don't have one at all. Just give me a narrator point of view and I'll be happier, compared to having a placeholder character whose sole reason of existence is letting people like pic related have a place in the story.

If I'm reading something that's tantamount to a book, what I want is abandoning reality and enjoy a story set in a world that's not ours.
How can I possibly enjoy that in a story where I am in there?
How can a fantasy perfect world exist if I'm one of its inhabitants?

Maybe I'll fantasize about being IN the world later, imagining how it'd be living in there and participating in the events of the plot. But being in there WHILE the plot is still going on?

I asked this some while ago, but didn't really receive any answers so I'm going to try again. What are the best PS3 (or other console only) exclusive VNs, if any? I'm planning on getting Utawarerumono 2 when it releases and I already played through Root;Double on PC so I'm not really interested in replaying it even if the PS3 port supposedly fixes the shitty final route. Searching "PS3" and "VNs" in the archive doesn't really turn up with usable results.

>>13681450
>>13681457
I'm most bothered by the episodic structure. One thing VNs usually have better than anime or LNs is that they usually come with actual fucking endings, but the Angel Beats isn't going to have even that, made even more worrisome by how long it has been in development. And it's questionable how they're going to be expanding it story-wise, or if they're planning to do it in the first place instead of just recycling the anime plot with only minor differences.

I tried to assemble a list of them a while ago. Here's what looked promising to me (plus ports + exclusives, etc.)
PS1: Double Cast, Maboroshi Tsukiya, Tokimeki Memorial, Mitsumete Knight, Kuno no Kizuna (the remake for the PS2 had controversial changes and the PC remake is completely different, they really should separate the entries on vndb), Fuuraiki, Mikagura Shoujo Tanteidan, Sentimental Grafitti, L no Kisetsu, Machi, Prismaticallization
PS2: Ayakashibito, Pissicato Polca (new route by Romeo), Utawarerumono (a huge amount of bonuses, it's available on PSN), Natsuyume Yawa, My Merry May + Maybe (by the writer of Symphonic Rain), Sakura Taisen (JRPG + VN hybrid you're probably familiar with), Kita e (first game is for DC only), Demonbane (a LOT of new content), Routes (it has voices in the port), Akai Ito (apparently it's much better than Aoi Shiro)
PS3/Vita: Root;Double as you mentioned, and & (new route). Can't think of any with actually new content.
By the way, don't get Suigetsu's port. There's some other PS2 titles I believe but I can't remember them now.

Oh a few more things: Baldr Force for PS2 is worthy of getting since it has better voice acting and an improved gameplay. It's a shame the OP fucking sucks; some games I listed have PSP ports, but as far as I've researched, it seems the japanese are pretty awful at porting older VNs to it so I'd stick with the original console versions. Let's not forget Galaxy Angel (most titles still untranslated), and the Memories Off series.
Ah, PSP: Mashiroiro Symphony, Tenshi Ranman (thank you anon who mentioned them a long time ago)
I'm sure there are many more for the PSP, maybe even some otomege worth checking, but I know nothing about them.

However Ushio's short epilogues (that you can accidentally not unlock depending on your choices even if you stick to the main route) in the first two games are both canon and while they don't really have any real major plot points the protagonist and her "relationship" is referenced a lot in the third game's main route, which has no branching parts and the extra side stuff is only unlocked after completing the main story.

tl;dr skip the side routes but do Ushio's epilogues

Well if you mainly like moege it's probably more than 90%, but if you like chuuni battles then okay that's true.

Still, the whole "recommended beginner VN" charts started a whole generation of pussies who can't handle a little bit of challenge. They should go read the IM series as their second or third VN and learn to man up.

Finished Swan Song. The normal ending is probably the best ending I've read. It some good scenes scattered throughout and I liked the action scenes. But it has a lot of boring and annoying parts. You know the typical post apocalypse problems and communication problems (while reading it the communication problems were annoying but looking back on it actually provides an important message).

A lot of the time it feels unpleasant. There are a few disturbing scenes that are violent, but there is no visual gore, for better or for worse. The ero scenes are mostly typical for eroge, boring, which is a bit disappointing compared to the ero in carnival. Two or three scenes had interesting thoughts, but that's about it.

The writing is easy to read but I thought it was good. It provides interesting analysis of the charters the their relation to each other. This is the main point of the game I think. Some of the time it feels like a novel in the way scenes are presented.

Overall, I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. I'd say I like it, and think it's good but I think I'm blinded by the fact it had some really good scenes and the deeper meaning behind things in it.
