Well, Hanyu has done the time freezing thing before, so that's not too bad. What's REALLY bad is Rika being able to move when time is completely frozen for no reason other than "lol it's a miracle" when just about everything that happened up to that point could be explained. Using a random miracle at the end is just poor writing.

The ending should have been Irie kicking the bullet and shouting about how he didn't want his second favorite maid to die. That would have been much better.

Matsuribayashi-hen is actually pretty good. It's just the ending of it that completely flopped. And since it's the ending to all of Higurashi, that's obviously a major problem.

Are you playing with the original sprites? If so, the mod wasn't made with them in mind. You need to switch to alts in the game options. Originals don't have zoom files. These files only exists in the mod. I'm surprised you got that far without any problem.

I didn't like how Keiichi was a clutz the entire time. Dropping the bins when they try to hide, and then spraining his ankle when everyone attempts to run. It also didn't have enough Mion, or show the reader the full scale of the disaster. I mean, it does mention the police are falling apart while trying to maintain order, but it would have been cool to see Oishi defending a police barricade or something. R07 really only focused on a few areas in Kamikanshi when much more was open to him.

An official cover of Kizuna, pretty sure it was the one for a bundle of 2 of the 4 games.

On the side note, a 1.6 version of my Mod is still planned, it'll tweak the last stuffs and should be the last version I guess. Began by setting some of the content that was in the ps3 game :
- When 3 sprites are on the screen, the 2 on the far right and left are more on the right and left compared when there are only 2 sprites. Also, if a sprite on the middle appear, that will move the 2 others (like the title of the main screen before the background appear)
- The tips now end like a chapter, with the 2 black bars and the logo.

For now that's what I did, but more is planned for this update.
- I'll add more graphic texts like in the liar CG scene, like when she shout liar at the beginning of the hatchet scene. Also, in the chapter where Rena apologizes in the rain, Alchemist added her voice saying it instead of just Keiichi.

I think I'll tweak the logo as well, to make it more like the Sui one, since I put it instead of the jp logo if anyone saw it. What about Higurashi When they Cry Festival ? That's how I named the game for my other project, based on the translation of Matsuri. Sui and Hou can be translated by "Smartness" and "Gift", which honestly doesn't sounds as good.

I don't think I'm missing anything. Oh, wait, something that could be done too would be making the zoom/night/sunset variations for the Vanilla sprites, so that we could still play with them just by switching with P, though the CGs would still be here. Not sure if I should keep the old backgrounds though.


There is also the question of the little textbox with name tags, but I think that'll be better as an add-on Mod. I could create a new textbox adapted for the wide screen, but like I said before don't intend to do any more than that, so if no one is interested in making it that won't be done.

I think GuraGura or any other anon that owns it could probably make one. You would pretty much just have to jot down which songs play after which lines. It might be a bit more difficult doing it with the SFX, but if we got a working voice patch, it's still nothing too hard.

He DID make some mistakes, like the idiotic sex jokes, envolving even Maria, in the beggining of Umineko... just look how the story is overall... it always made me wonder why that is even there (this and some one-liner minor stuff later too), but he is one of the best (if not the best, depending on how are you comparing) writers in this era (21st, I mean) from Japan so far... and damn, I study a lot about the Nihon Bunkaku stuff in my university (in other words, I did read a lot of things from there, including all of those acclaimed Murakami books, but even so, Ryukishi is just genius with his amazingly unique style of storytelling, themes, world building and literary references in Umineko).

... I guess is time to stop here, since this is a Higurashi thread. I'm such an Umineko fanboy fag sometimes. In short, I want badly to go to LA and meet him, but unfortunately, I can't.

If any anon go there, please say to him that he is a great person and writer, and that he deserves a lot more of attention than what he actually gets for being just a "doujin game creator" or whatever the fuck futaba anons normally say when refering to him sometimes (it just piss me off) in random VN threads out there.

I swear god I will one day officially translate the book versions of Higurashi and Umineko as actual books (for them to not receive the same kind of treatment that a lot of people gave to some light novels that were officially released in the west).

Bus Stop was his stageplay, Outbreak was based on a short that R07 wrote which was included with one of the PSP games or something, I think, and Kamikanshi was more or less new. Ryushiki07 is a play writer and visual novels are quite an excellent way of presenting dramas in modern times.

Cutting out all the elements of the sound novel itself to just a play script is essentially gutting the game and removing many things that makes the series great. It would disturb the Six Aristotelian elements of drama. I quite enjoyed the pacing, pauses, sound effects, music, visual effects, and character expressions of the series. I loved the grin that pops out when talking to Shion on the phone.

Higurashi is also uniquely "otaku" and cutting out the non-serious parts would be removing Ryukishi07's personal touch and charm to the story. He's done 2D-related stories and jobs his whole life, he shouldn't change things just to appeal to a wider mainstream audience. Professional critics would balk at the series anyway, especially at the Hinamizawa Syndrome.

It was nicer when Ryukishi07 came to ACen on his own. He didn't charge for signings at all, and signed two items, and even did selfies with every person who wanted to. He was a super nice guy.

That's still bullshit. People shouldn't have to do that just to get an autograph, especially when R07 does it for free elsewhere. MangaGamer is just doing that for a cheap buck, just like their new Umineko release. Meh. Well considering AX gave out Autograph tickets for free at like 8AM or something, I consider this easier since you just buy VNs/Merch and get a ticket. Only autograph I managed to get, but well worth it for 07th Merch,

Why does Higurashi have no good figures that don't cost 100$+?

I really want those 07th expansion trading cards though, but they're only sold in a big box that cost 60 fucking dollars. I'd much rather spend that on a figure, manga or a video game.
