I've been curious about this for a while - is there any kind of scale/ratio for converting script size to something people would normally measure length in?

Many developers will say how large a script is. If that were, say, printed in standard A6 paperback format, how many pages would it be? That kind of thing.

So far (still in early game stages/common route), it's not very good. The VAs sound off for their respective characters in my opinion, the writing is bland at times, and the premise is quite laughable.

Still it's an Atelier Kaguya game even though it is GassaQ, so I end up giving it a chance for the heroines.

Artists do other work all the time, sometimes I play certain games because I know the artist from eromanga.
Scriptwriters sometimes write Light Novels or other scripts in general.
Some VAs do anime or doujin audio work.
Full time Programmers are almost nonexistant or companies use free assets like krkr or paid solutions.
I assume audio is also contractual work that gets licensed for use.

A few reasons that come to mind:
1. Script writers often get paid by the character, so its in their interest to write longer scripts.
2. Eroge have been steadily getting longer to the point where very long games are expected from the consumers. If a full priced game released today only ran 10 hours it would be met with backlash (even 15 hour full-price games get criticized for being too short) even though full priced games in the 90's were often even shorter than that.
3. Eroge are expensive, so on one hand I can't fully fault customers for wanting something long enough to make it worth their money. However, since so much of the extra length is boring padding-out of the script I don't think that justifies the price any more than if the script was slimmed down.

I agree with you that eroge are too long. I also have limited time to spend reading them, but also very few eroge use their length meaningfully. Adding extra boring, pointless shit just makes a game worse.

Finished sayooshi. Overall, almost perfect for me. I had high expectations for this and it well exceeded it. It's depressing, anxiety provocative, disturbing and I love it. The writing's good and there are some really nice lines. The music fits nicely. The art on the most part is good and it has really good shading, especially on the legs I noticed.

It pretty much does what I want an eroge to be. Something that utilizes text, art and music and it does all that. The ero scenes are good. Not usable but good it read. It takes the typical wander around a school to different locations and flips it on its head.

It has a really dreamy atmosphere. Everything occurring either during sunset or a dream is really good.

At first thought the last scene of every route gives a lot away was a bad idea and killed my enjoyment directly after but I actually think it works well. I still like being in the state of not really know whats happening. But it pretty much states most of it so you should be able to figure it out for yourself.

There is no backlog and no skip previously read text. It always freezes with long lines even with the update patch. Also if you have the game running in a window and have the mouse in another window the mouse lags.

Anyway, it's beautiful. The more I think about it the more I like it. It's shorter than most, it only took me three days.

Mostly my problem with the way it did setting building is that it never felt like half the stuff was all that relevant beyond this character is now going to give us a wall of exposition, which probably contributes to why I felt like it was kind of all over the place.

I'd also say that with all the characterization it did, most of the side characters are pretty forgettable and ended up blending together afterwards.

My problem with the filler was that by the end of it I was getting bored and started to have problems with telling what I should actually pay attention to and what to skim through and that, for me, took a lot of the impact the story could have had away.

>> No.13616623

I think the problem here is that you just don't like sci-fi settings. I'm struggling to word this in a way that doesn't make me seem like a cocky dick, but for me, all that exposition was *interesting*, and I liked putting the world together, and I liked learning more about it. In your case, you just think it's not relevant. Like, skimming through it? To me, that's like, a horrific thing to do. Muv Luv wasn't "all over the place" and it didn't have filler. Speech patterns like old man, ojou, etc. are a literary device.
Dialects are an inconvenient part of real world culture which the Japanese government has tried and is trying to suppress.
The same happens in other country (like mine). I can assure you they do a very good job at brainwashing people. Whenever I (and many of my countrymen) hear even just some dialectal accents I instantly cringe and I naturally feel like the speaker is somewhat ignorant since he doesn't speak the "common language" like I do. Unless it's for comedy, than it's ok.
Even if I know of this bias, I can't gen rid of it. After all, it's not like it's completely baseless. It's just blown out of proportion.
I can imagine the situation in Japan is really similar, after all comedy is often performed in/includes kansai-ben, and the other dialects are extremely rare probably because educated people (ie. people who went to school and learned the enforced common language) just don't like how ignorant they sound.

It's the same here, though I have to say it depends on the dialect. Some of them are more country bumpkin-ish as others, and some or straight up hilarious.

I have to say your typical Kansai dialect isn't even that bad and easily understandable. I might have a twisted view because of all the fake-Kansai dialect in eroge though. I had some problems with dialects in ものべの but it wasn't anything too wild.

You have the regular game – Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na.

Then yoi have the enhanced non-H version – Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na - Brighter than Dawning Blue.

And then you have the fandisc – Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na - Moonlight Cradle.

And the descriptions on VNDB tell you the FD follows the expanded version scenario.

If you want it all, I'd go the first version of H scenes, then Brighter than Dawning Blue for enhanced scenarios and then the FD.
