Has ZUN made a map of Gensokyo yet? How long does it take to walk to the shrine from the village? Why would the village be so close to it when the shrine is at the edge of the border?

>> No.13595694

Several estates and multiple afterlives exist in gensokyo, which overall is a pretty small chunk of land.

I imagine aside from the forests it's pretty crowded.

Would almost certainly be crowded due to all of the mountains.

specificity kills imagination

gensokyo does not have a precise landscape

because it can alter and change just like the beings within it

this made me feel good. i don't want to pass by a bunch of yuppie norms, chads and illicit women on my way to chat it up with my bff Meiling at SDM.

It's been stated that the shrine is relatively far and annoying to get to from the human village I think.
Also I highly doubt we will ever have a map for two reasons, this >>13595870 and because then ZUN can't just add new locations for the new games if there's a map.

>> No.13603590

So the land of Gensokyo is.pretty much infinite then? I wonder if there's unexplorable area/landmark with no youkais, fairies, humans, or even other beings

>> No.13603623

>>13603590
Well, there's an unspecified boundary that surrounds the place, set by the Great Hakurei Barrier. The only mentioned edge of the Barrier that I know of is basically where the Hakurei Shrine sits.

Whats a chad? Is it some /r9k/ slang for people who aren't hopeless losers? If so then get out of /jp/.

Well you've got Makai, which is essentially its own world/dimension, as well as the Underworld which is HUGE. Then you've also got the Netherworld and Heaven. Not exactly Gensokyo, but all accessible from there. Gensokyo itself is relatively small, but if you add everything together I guess you could consider it possibly infinite.

Also the Lunar Capital I guess.

Man I can't wait to go to Gensokyo!!!

He hasn't. There have been many fan attempts at maps, though.

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance has done a rather amazing job at sticking to canon (played through the whole game and didn't find inconsistencies, I actually learned more about the canon from playing it)

So I would believe that their attempt at a Gensoukyou map is the most accurate we have at the moment.

Always liked this map. There's a labeled version out there too but I don't have it. Distances may not be accurately depicted but I think the locations are placed correctly based on the info that's been given by ZUN. I could be thinking of another map though. Not sure.

Inviting criticism:
- the Road of Liminality and the Sanzu River should be behind Youkai Mountain, and therefore also Higan
- the Road of Reconsideration and Muenzuka seems to be after the Forest of Magic, but the Netherworld doesn't seem to be near there, plus the Road of Liminality is again on the totally opposite side of the map
- Speaking of which where is the barrier to the Netherworld even supposed to be here
- Nameless Hill is kind of in a weird spot since it should be close to the Sanzu as well as Muenzuka
- Garden of the Sun where?
- Moriya Shrine is rather low on the mountain
- Including the "mountains behind the Hakurei Shrine" and Makai is a mistake

The forest of magic is not close to the Hakurei shrine. I think at least a few hours.

I remember the fairies once drew up a map showing the forest and the lake. Does anyone know in what chapter that was?

I'm looking through the fairy manga, and I've found this:

>Luna: And so, while playing hide-and-seek at the lake, you cam all the way to the forest of magic?
>Luna: Isn't that a bit extreme?
>Luna: You can't possibly be found here
>Cirno: Nope
>Cirno: We were playing hide-and-seek at the shrine today
>Star: that's even worse.

= Forest of magic is closer to the lake than to the shrine, but far enough way from both.

This was a previous version, I think. It's shittier anyways. Reverse image search gave me this and says it was from 2013, so the guy probably never finished.

SDM should be on the other side of the lake, since Reimu had to cross the lake to get to it.
