From a view seperate from what I find interesting or cool, I'd have to say Tanuki and Bake-danuki. They grow very powerful over time and can also potentially live in the outside world with no problem as long as they take the form of a human thus deceiving everyone around them.

They have physical and human limitations. I imagine since you have to stop associating yourself as a villager theres a huge gap of power between when you first become a magician and when you're actually very powerful where you're an easy meal for a number of youkai.

It all depends. Almost every 2hu character gets one randomly assigned power that has nothing to do with their species, for instance Yukari who would be as powerful as an average youkai if it weren't for the fact that she was born with virtual omnipotence via borders

IIRC ''youkai'' is both an umbrella term for any mythical creature in Japanese (for instance, vampires and demons may also be called youkai) as well as an actual species name for a ''general'' kind of creature roughly equivalents to western concepts of spirits and demons/monsters (but without the always-bad connotations, as some youkai may be moral or neutral or simply too alien to judge with human morality)

Yukari is a human-turned youkai, it also explains why she's so obsessed with being a youkai, kinda like a wannabe youkai.
