Hanyuu did everything wrong, Renafags vs Mionfags, etc.

Well, the steam release is finally out.
Voice patch aside, is it gonna be possible to replace the BGs and sprites with this? It should be, since the files are all right there in the folder waiting to be messed with.

It's really easy to make a quick BG patch with new sprites. You just need to unpack old BG only ps2 patch, convert images to .png and paste them to \Higurashi Chapter 1\HigurashiEp01_Data\CG directory. BGs seem a bit blurry after upscaling, but well, ps2 BGs are only 640x480.

For those of you wanting the ps2 mod in the steam version, there's a bit of an issue.

When the sprites from the ps2 arc packages are extracted, they come out like this.
While it's not impossible to fix them, it would just take a really long time to fix all the sprites.

The backgrounds are fine though.

Who would trust an anon at his word, and why would you not share what you have if you do indeed have something you could share with the community?

For those interested I've written a little program to do this.
Fixed sprites*: http://vdzserver.org/misc/HigurashiSprites.rar
Fixer program source (C#/XNA): http://pastebin.com/g2iRHKsb
Fixer program binary: http://vdzserver.org/misc/HigurashiFixer.exe

* The images provided by >>13496659 are in JPG format and contain artifacts; notably, the mask has been corrupted slightly. The output sprites use this flawed mask and are therefore less than optimal. If you get the PNG equivalents, you can put those in a folder named 'input' in the HigurashiFixer folder and create a text file named "usepng.txt" in the HigurashiFixer folder (doesn't matter what's inside the file) to have it use PNG sources instead of JPG sources.

Side note for program: Due to laziness on my part, you'll get weird bugs if the path where you put HigurashiFixer contains 'input' (as it autoreplaces 'input' with 'output' to get the output folder to save to).

I want to use this to practice my Japanese reading a bit, but it doesn't seem to work with ITH and it takes so much time to manually identify and type out every word that I don't recognize when reading a VN.

If I can find the file that just has all of the dialog in the game then I can just keep it on the side of the screen like a movie script and reference that whenever I see a word I need to look up.

Alright, uploading it.

To make things faster, ended up cutting it into two version (full console mod, steam sprites + rest of the console assets).

The first one is being uploaded at the moment, expect to have it in like 5 minutes. The second will take more time because of the sprites being of much bigger size.

Here is the folder where they'll be available. If I end up making an update in the future, it will be available here too.
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xq4ncmss3yiwr/Higurashi_Steam_Modding

I probably still made some errors so feedback is appreciated.

Here is a summary of its content :
- ps2/ps3 backgrounds
- ps2/ps3 sprites (or not, depending on the two versions)
- sunset/night variations
- some CGs
The game shouldn't have any problem up to the Usoda scene where I didn't get to check ingame.

I've been already working on that for years, hence the fact making this mod didn't take that long. Compared to everything I've done, 10 hours is pretty much nothing actually.

Recoding the whole onscripter game.
Looking on the net for ds graphic files I could use.
Remaking the sprites with scans.
Creating whole new menus and their buttons from scratch.
Adding the voices for some files
Playing the ps2 and ds games to compare and record the scenes.

All that on my own.

So, is the reason why we're not using ps3 sprites is because no has created a way of converting them?

I found the game, found a way of extracting data.rom and got bombarded with a ton of bup, pic, at3 files.

It seems for the umineko game a few years ago, someone wrote a program to convert those files.
While that's nice, it doesn't work on the higurashi files.

Yes. I already talked about that with the one who made it (one of the members of the Umineko ps3fication group), and last time he told me that would take him too much time and that for now I should abandon the idea that he would do it. The PS3 script differs from the PC one in a number of ways--from typo fixes to entirely rewritten scenes--so there is a not-insignificant number of voices that couldn't be placed automatically. In particular, dialogue divided up with a Line_ContinueAfterTyping flag was almost certainly missed. That said, this patch adds 4400+ voices, I just couldn't be assed to go through the entire thing and manually add the ones that weren't.

So, I uploaded what I've already done in the hopes someone wants to finish the job. First, here's the patch: https://mega.co.nz/#!3Q9ySDCY!2sXGQXyOtH-bRA0hFt6RhAtDSldyhNchHjNJb6v6Mig Drop the contents into the HigurashiEp01_Data/StreamingAssets directory (you'll need to be fully updated for the game to recognize and use the "Update" directory).

That download only contains the voices actually inserted, so if you want to add the rest, you'll need to grab this too: https://mega.co.nz/#!rUMxwbTY!6Ral1MRTC266DVg4SM-P01s3Gnflo2StDdF0RrgigrY It contains 3 of the 23 voice folders from the PS3 release, which *should*, as best I can tell, cover everything used in Onikakushi. With it, I've included a dump of all the voiced lines in the PS3 script and the name of each associated voice file. They're mostly in the order they show up, so it should be easy enough to find and fill in missing lines.

>> No.13507418

I'll go ahead and finish the voice patch if no one else does but one of my arms was injured recently so it'll take a while one handing it.

because 1024x768 is the bigger resolution of the game. It's useless to have files bigger, resized them so that they would take less space and have a less pixelated look because of the automatic resizing of the engine (which is less optimized than a manual one).

Not that anon but yeah, it can be combined with a merging tool by having the original as base, the voice as an edit, and the mod bg edit as another edit.

I think I might take a stab at this, not to simply merge them, but to add in the missing voices.
I noticed while talking to Rena in the first 5 minutes of the game that the voice patch has missing parts.

New update.
1.02 Update

Features

- Press the 'P' key to swap between the original and new sprites. Note that to prevent bizzare bugs, you can only do this while the game is waiting for input.

Modding

- Init.txt and Flow.txt are now provided so you can make changes.
- Init.txt also has some new tools that were added to allow for easier control over the text window.

Fixes

- A few more typo and consistency fixes. I hope we're running out of these to fix!
- The text shader was incorrectly targeting shader 3.0, which may have made some systems unable to see text properly.

It's possible they're conflicting with other sound effects. I'm not sure. I didn't test it very much, but I use the same command to play voices as the script uses for all its sound effects, and I think it will only play one at a time. But those are just the voices for Onikakushi? The voice patch guy uploaded only 3 out of 20-something folders worth of voices from Sui.

That's why I don't get the voice patch, supposedly all onikakushi voices are worth 150mb (added) + 1000mb (not added). So all the aumated process did was add barely over 15% of the total voices for onikakushi?

New voice and bgm patch:

I finished up chapter 1, I fixed everything but the scene in which they're talking about Keichii's dick.
I can't figure out which sound files are supposed to play since they sound pretty off giving the kind of context going on.

Everything else for that chapter is fine though.

What I'll do is make a rough patch combining the voices and bgm for the later chapters, then manually fill in the missing pieces.

I also had to make a sound file combining their voices because apparently you can only play one sound at a time.

Importing makes no sense if you have a CFW PS3, just torrent the game and start messing with it (while waiting for the game disc to arrive if you really want to own one).
You can easily make screenshots on CFW to get BGs, but they are in 1080p on my end - which is odd, because the screenshots are always taken at native resolution of the game in question (so 720p or 1080p mostly), and Sui is supposed to have fullscreen images in 720p.
Also, I can't for the life of me make Target Manager (let alone ProDG) detect my PS3 running Rebug REX in DEX mode regardless of CFW and debugger versions. It's most likely a user error though, because I see no reason why it shouldn't work this way.
At least it runs fine with webMAN, so you can run the game from your PC's HDD avoiding the need to reupload 5GB data.rom back to PS3 after every modification.

>> No.13513794

In theory, reverse engineering the image decompressing routine in PS3 debugger to rewrite it for PC might require considerable RE skills and familiarity with compression algorithms (implemented by the Japanese on top of it, so it's more effort than it's worth). It's likely easier to find the responsible function in disassembly and copy-paste it into your own converter binary written for PS3 (assuming that you have PS3 SDK - note that PS3_SDK_450_001-YLoD is just an update for PS3_4.00_SDK-YLoD so you need both to have full 4.50 SDK).
I don't expect rpcs3 emulator to evolve fast enough for our needs, but who knows. If/when it's able to show the startup logo of Sui, consider the job done.
So far there's no problem with converting audio files (BGM, speech and SFX) to PC format, script can be decompiled with some effort - probably minimal because it seems to be the same main.snr of S-NEO engine as in all previous PS3 (Uminekos) and PS2 games (Parfait, Keyorina, KonnYaku, PureCure, Chanter, Higurashis...), so I'll try to get PS3 sprites and leave BG screenshoting to someone else.

Wait, does that mean you already tried to screenshot them ? Uploading them would be great, the only ones I coul get so farwere from screenshotting YT videos, and it was far from being great (had to resize them to 480p to make them looks ok).

I haven't read anything beyond the Onikakushi arc, since I've been waiting forever for a release with a decent translation and its content intac. The fan translations were taking far too long, so this (re)release is a godsend for me, especially with how easy modding is, and how fast MangaGamer seems to be fixing problems. Dunno about editing them though, maybe a good anon who's already finished the novel can share some files.

Here's how I've been editing them:
onik_000.txt -> onik_15_03.txt are each individual chapter.
The voice commands look like PlaySE(3, "S19/04/990400107", 128, 64);
S19 seems to be the folder that houses the voices for chapter 1
The 04 folder is a character (in this case, Satako) and the 990400107 is the corresponding .ogg file

In the full patch, there is a s19.txt that has the exact order of all the voices for the ps3 version.
For the most part the dialogue and order is the same, however the dialogue isn't exact and some scenes were extended, hence while the original anon who did this couldn't fit every line to a voice.

>> No.13520680

PlaySE(3, "S19/02/990200269", 128, 64);
OutputLine(NULL, " 待ってたよ。今日もがんばろ!」",
NULL, " I was waiting for you. Let's try our best today!\"", Line_WaitForInput);
OutputLineAll(NULL, "\n", Line_ContinueAfterTyping);

The average dialogue and voice looks like this.
As to be expected, voiced parts start with 「 and end with 」

S01, S19, and S20 folders need to be there or else the patch won't be able to find the files.

For example,
https://github.com/higurashi-mod/scripts/blob/master/Update/onik_015_03.txt

>PlaySE(3, "S01/19/123100001", 128, 64);

S01 is the folder that it was in, 19 being the 19th folder (and whatever character that was), and 123100001 being the file itself.

I... I need to sleep already.

I mistaken the ps2 zip with the ps3 one and was wondering why I couldn't see that.

Going through chapter 5 right now.

Seems like 990500061.ogg has no sound it.

Oh neat, the ps2 version is correct.

I don't think anyone will notice the difference in quality, it's another case of multiple voice files that have to be combined.

Sent your invite. I don't think we will need more than git commit, git pull, git add and git push here.

Using github will help a lot when pushing small changes, so I hope everyone working in anything related to the scrips will join. We should leave big uploads to mega.

Anyway, are the songs in the PS3/PS2 version the same as the PC remake? Anyone already working in the port? The sound quality is pretty bad in the original game.

It's almost midnight here, so I will finish onik_015_02 and onik_015 tomorrow.

Got the invite, I'll upload what I have just so the project has a nice central point.

The songs seem to be different.

One anon in here said they'd do it but I haven't heard of anything else.
