Do you have a citation for that? Because if I remember correctly, 3rd gens of Ar Tonelico do have Hymn Codes; maybe you're thinking of Infel Phira 3rd gens, which do not have Hymn Codes?

I'm not sure if you can arbitrarily download hymn crystals into reyvateils, but there are limits on which hymn codes are allowed to sing which songs. For example, only Shurelia can sing EXEC_SUSPEND/.

From wiki:

Generally speaking, Third Generation Reyvateils do not have a Hymn Code and thus cannot sing Extract-Type Hymns. They are however still connected to a Song Server and will be able to use Song Magic, making them as useful as other types of Reyvateils. There are exceptions to this however; occasionally, from an error arising from the Song Server, a Third Generation Reyvateil may be given a Hymn Code of another Reyvateil. The Church of Origin use a special Grathnode Crystal known as D Cellophane Grathnode Crystal on the Maiden of Origin. The D Cellophane Grathnode Crystal assign the Hymn Code of the Reyvateil who made the Grathnode Crystal. If a Third Generation Reyvateil has a Hymn Code, they can sing Extract-Type Hymns.

>> No.13443033

>>13442900
I see, if Aurica didn't accidentally register as Mir she wouldn't be able to sing Purger. Luca also got her bases covered. Total command strong.

>> No.13443261

>>13443033
Luca is the Maiden of Mio. She received it naturally like all the other maidens.

>>13442900
That's interesting, because song magic is actually an Extract-Type Hymn called EXEC_HYMME/. I always thought that 3rd generations were assigned a hymn code so they could sing EXEC_HYMME/., but just a pleb level hymn code with no other permissions. Maybe a guest account? Still, it would seem like a gaping security hole, for example, that Sol Cluster or IPD reyvateils could take advantage of to trick Ar Tonelico into accepting their songs.

>> No.13443338

>>13443261
Ar Tonelico can't process New Testament, though, and IIRC IPDs cannot into central dialect. Infel Phira emulates AT but not vice versa.

You miss out on experiencing Ciel with all of the other players while it was being released, and you would have missed out on the thanksgiving event that happened recently. I'm not playing Ciel for the "game" (there's very little gameplay per se), I'm playing for the experience. And the experience playing the offline version now is vastly different from the experience playing the online version while it was being released. It's like the difference between playing an MMO that has a great community and an MMO that is dead, see? Same game, but it's different.

>It's like the difference between playing an MMO that has a great community and an MMO that is dead, see? Same game, but it's different.
Yes, well, that's exactly what I said, man. But the difference is
>I'm playing for the experience
that the experience is single-player in this case. What's stopping you from not using the fast-forward function and trying to play it like the offline version?

At any rate, we're not even in disagreement. And moreso, I still don't even have a Vita. I'm just talking from the data I've gathered about the game.
You think if you put your mind into it you can't get something that's quite close to having played it since release day? Because that's what I'd like to get too.

>> No.13457220

>>13457159
It is a single-player game, kind of. Everywhere I've checked, Ciel nosurge is listed as a *social game* or *communication game*. Being able to communicate with other players was a core part of Ciel nosurge's design. I mean, you can imagine what it's like instead, but using the MMO analogy, imagine World of Warcraft rebalanced for single-player. You can still do all of the quests by yourself, but can you really say it's the same game?

It doesn't help that all of the other players playing with you is canon to the plot due to Seven Dimension shenanigans.

But you're right, you can play it single player and still experience the story.

>What's stopping you from not using the fast-forward function and trying to play it like the offline version?
The offline version was balanced for time-skipping. Harvesting times are doubled. You cannot set times for Ion to eat or sleep with you. Ion's world's time WILL get desynced from real time.

Also, I don't have a source, but I hear that online Ion started off grumpy and you had to gradually cheer her up, while offline Ion starts off cheerful right from the beginning, which greatly changes how you experience your relationship with Ion.

This is just my speculation, but I guess we'll finally be able to encounter the secret boss?

In the japanese PS3 Version you needed a Cielno savegame and those strange online features (which were removed in the western version) to unlock the boss,

and defeating it unlocked the costume feature for that specific playthrough.

And since we now get the costume feature as "new content" I'm wondering whether this implies they included the secret boss?

Did anyone here play the japanese version of Arno+ and could explain to me how they handled the costume feature? Was it unlocked from the very beginning and was the secret boss included?

>> No.13458060

So with Totori plus being on PS+ just now, what are the chances that we'll get the other 2 Arland games? Not sure if I should buy the other two, or wait.

Then again I've still got Ar plus on my backlog, since I haven't finished Ciel yet, so it'll be a while before I get to playing the Atelier games.

>> No.13459385

>>13457814

Bonus costumes are unlocked and selectable at the beginning of the game.

The other costumes are not unlocked and will require an unlock, which can be accomplished by defeating the secret boss OR beating the game in the Vita version.

Ciel nosurge save was never required for secret boss, just a network connection. The boss's HP was taken from Ciel nosurge so you didn't have to play Ciel to fight the boss.

That has been changed though and the boss now has a set HP pool that is independent of Ciel. It is possible that the localized version may include the boss as a result, but even if they don't, beating the game will give you full costume unlock anyways (set in system save, will activate for all games).

New content in Plus is basically 1 bonus outfit for each protag, and more talk-in-the-bath partner conversations.

They changed it in Offline that Ion does not transition between activities in real-time. In Online when, say, she was switching from Reading at her table to Changing (to get ready for bed/bath), she would get up, walk over to her bed area, draw the curtain, change, open the curtain, walk to the bath, etc.

In offline, a screen pops up saying she's "changing" then it slides off and she's done.

There are also small changes in some of the dialogues she gives, but none of it is a *major* game changer. Just slightly different.

KT have handled Gust's releases worse than NISA ever did. We all gave NISA shit for providing us buggy games with shoddy localisations, and then KT came along and kept giving us buggy games with shoddy localisations, except now they release half of them as digital-only too, and pull stupid shit like releasing Ar without Ciel.
It's a real sad fucking day when a series would be better off with NISA than with you.

But one of the most fun parts of Metroid and metroidvanias is sequence breaking just because you can. Personal satisfaction in doing the best you can in a game is its own motivation. Hell, that's the entire basis of the speedrunning scene.

>> No.13477308

Sequence breaking is all about the game acknowledging your efforts - you do weird things, the game rewards you with new content that would otherwise be reserved for people having gone through the proper steps.

>>13476791
>And yet 100 million people still find Minecraft fun, even though it makes zero distinction between success and failure.
There is a reward for building stuff, which is the fact that the structure you worked on remains in the game world for you to see and interact with. Most players won't just travel around and poke every animal they come across, because the game does not reward that behavior in any way. Stuff like building leaves behind persistent changes acknowledging your efforts.

A similar motivation in Atelier games (and a good comparison for speedrunning) would be if the game kept count of how many days you spend, then storing that number as 'high score' at the end of the game. Even if the number has no influence on gameplay, it serves as acknowledgement from the game itself and can motivate players to play differently to modify that acknowledgement (that is, get a 'better score').

Exactly, you don't need a time limit (which is what the majority of people agreed on about Shallie).

You didn't address the speedrunning part. Which I suspect is because your idea of having a score, such as the number of days, aka a measure of how fast you completed the game, is what speedrunners record themselves.

Do you need a game to tell you to feel proud for beating it? Are you not satisfied by winning a race if it doesn't flash up with YOU'RE WINNER afterwards?

>> No.13477406

>>13477369
I hope you're not saying the other Atelier games are hard though, because they aren't. I don't think the Atelier games were ever about being difficult or challenging, they are about item crafting and exploration.

Again, you're free to challenge yourself by speedrunning the games or not using any attack items, etc., but I think removing the time limit is overall a good thing.

Instead, the right thing to do would be to add more complex crafting mechanics for more advanced players.

>Which I suspect is because your idea of having a score, such as the number of days, aka a measure of how fast you completed the game, is what speedrunners record themselves.
The reason I didn't address it beyond what I said about keeping score is because speedrunning is a meta thing. It's not comparable unless you have a play-atelier-in-as-few-days-as-possible community like you have a speedrunning community. I'm sure speedrunning wouldn't be as popular as it is if it weren't for the communities allowing you to compare your results to other players and show off your skills.

>Do you need a game to tell you to feel proud for beating it? Are you not satisfied by winning a race if it doesn't flash up with YOU'RE WINNER afterwards?
No, but the game does have to acknowledge that I've beaten the game and that I've won the race. It doesn't have to be flashy.

Imagine if you're playing a racing game, and instead of the race ending after you clear the last lap it just continues as if nothing happened and all you can do is either continue racing aimlessly or manually pause and quit the game. Wouldn't that feel completely anticlimactic and purposeless? In a non-timed Atelier game it's even worse because, in racing game terms, it doesn't even keep track of your lap times.

>> No.13477560

>>13477489

>I'm sure speedrunning wouldn't be as popular as it is if it weren't for the communities allowing you to compare your results to other players and show off your skills.
That's partly wrong. A lot of people really do enjoy speedrunning for the sake of speedrunning. There are quite a few games that are only being speedrun by one or two people and the only competition is against that one person's previous records.

>the game does have to acknowledge that I've beaten the game and that I've won the race. It doesn't have to be flashy
> and instead of the race ending after you clear the last lap it just continues as if nothing happened and all you can do is either continue racing aimlessly or manually pause and quit the game
Like GTA? Like Minecraft? Neither of those games ever acknowledge anything. You drove a tank into a helicopter in GTA? Not even a trophy. Raced around the entire city in one minute flat? Nope, the game doesn't time it for you, absolutely nothing special happens. Built a 1:1000 scale replica of Ar Tonelico in Minecraft? No trophy, no acknowledgement. Built a 1:1 scale replica of Ar Tonelico in Minecraft? Still no trophy. Not even a tiny popup that says congratulations. Built all of this in survival mode instead of creative mode or using a world editor? Minecraft doesn't care, may as well be the same thing.

>> No.13477724

Optimizing in an Atelier game doesn't have to be about speed. It can be about constructing the best possible set of items to meet a particular challenge. Remember the Golden Pigs in Atelier Iris 1?

>> No.13477775

>>13477724
This sort of challenge would also be more viable without a time limit. Say you had 10 bonus bosses with a bunch of different strengths and weaknesses. With a time limit you don't have time to make the best equipment for each character to set up your party for each boss; you have to just try and make the best all-purpose equipment instead. Removing the time limit changes it to purely a matter of how well you can prepare yourself.

>> No.13479220

>>13475364
No point, you can just grind everything because no time limits. Iris and MK were good without time management, but ps3 Ateliers without time management would be just grind fest as Shallie demonstrated.

>> No.13479512

>>13479220
It sounds like you suffer from a lack of self-control. If grinding makes the game easy, then don't grind. If you can't not grind then I would get that fixed since a lack of self-control is a pretty serious problem unless you find someone who is willing to control for you.

Right, because it's harder to port a PS2 game to to the Vita (ignoring stuff like FFX or P4G) than it is to port a PS3 game like Rorona to both the Vita AND the 3DS, never mind that they had to completely redo the graphics for the 3DS and optimize Rorona for the sad excuse of graphics power of the 3DS.

It's probably because AT lacks the mass appeal Atelier has, sort of like comparing Animal Crossing or Mario to EVE Online.

Are you sure? That's a very common occurence in the industry. Maybe not necesarily for PS2 games, but look at Final Fantasy 7 and SE's re-release of the PC port.

New features like Steam achievements are tacked on in a hackish manner, not as parts of the original game. Their improvements to the port were done the same way people mod old games for higher resolution, etc.

Bad quality of a remake doesn't mean they lost the source code. Or did they officially admit they did?

>New features like Steam achievements are tacked on in a hackish manner, not as parts of the original game.
That has absolutely no connection to whether or not they lost the source code. In fact, that's a good indicator that they didn't lose the source code because if they did in fact lose their code, they would have had to remake the game from scratch, meaning that new features would be tightly integrated into the game.

>> No.13494634

>>13494533
I'd say a good indicator of them losing the source code is them releasing the exact same game binaries from over 7 years ago with new features like achievements and improved graphics options tacked on via hacks instead of properly integrated with the game.

>> No.13494860

>>13494634
>improved graphics options tacked on via hacks
That's not very likely. You can't just hack better graphics into a binary blob, you'd need a team of dozens of genius programmers to attempt such a feat.

>> No.13495744

>>13494860
This really depends on the game engine, but you don't need much more than a good reverse engineer or two to integrate the new code written by your average programmers into the existing binary for the same OS.
They could even sidestep the technical hurdles and simply publish AT1&2 on PSN as PS2 Classics -- and the recent release of ArNo would contribute to their sales.
I don't think the source code matters (much) in this case, it's that AT1&2 are almost entirely sprite-based and HD remake would require a team of dozens of artists to redraw everything. The new HD engine doesn't have to be written from scratch if they reuse parts of YnNK engine to cover PS3+PS4+Vita systems in one go.

To make it easier, lets imagine the multiverse is just a 2-dimensional grid, with Ra Ciela originally being at 0,0.

When they bring Ion to their world, they dial a bunch of coordinates, in this case "3 up, 2 to the right from where we are now", with would bring Ion from an Earth at 3,2.

Then the 6th Dimensional Shift Bullshit happens and Ra Ciela gets moved left 1, ending up at 0,-1.

When they connected our Interdimend up at/before the start of Ar noSurge, and the camphor program up before Ciel noSurge, Sarly used the same coordinates they used to bring Ion, but because of the 6th dimensional shift moving Ra Ciela one to the left, the coordinates "3 up, 2 to the right from where we are now" now go to our Earth at 3,1 instead of Ion's Earth at 3,2.

The reason Ion gets sent back to her Earth after Ar instead of being sent to ours, is because she gets drawn back by the pull of her connection to her home dimension, instead of relying on relative coordinates to dial anywhere.

Of course it's a lot more complicated than that because you have 7 dimensions to work with, but it's the same principle.

>> No.13514277

>>13514227
Oh, and fun fact: If we'd sided with Nelo and done things her way, Ion would have been sent to us instead of being sent home, but Nelo would have also missed her own home by that same amount, and both would have been stuck in dimensions remarkably similar to their own. They would also still feel that "pull" towards their home dimensions but would now have no way of ever getting there, and it's also possible the "pull" would probably be worse considering how close to home they'd be.

So by stopping Nelo we actually saved her from making things worse for herself.

And fun fact 2: We actually get to see the coordinates the Ar noSurge Tube dials to connect to our world in the opening for Ar. They are:
>D-1 : 119.4547345 xt.
>D-2 : 22812.3665367 yt.

Helping your friend cope with the fact she has no place in the world isn't the same.

is there a flag for getting Ion to go to the parts shop with you?

I asked her first thing in the morning and she still said "there's not enough time left today"

Try asking in the middle of the night.

The irony is strong. Truly the love that Ion feels for Kanon IS the purest form of love.

Doesn't need explaining, Cass probably tells her its better to take a bath now before she just so happens to get eaten up by the horrible new god like being, and she doesn't want her going in alone and feeling lonely so she forces Delta in.

As for Earthes is just because, you paid good money for this port and you will be getting your damn money's worth.

To be fair, Nelo is surprisingly amicable for being damn near the primary antagonist of the game. I mean at one point doesn't she get captured and they still just let her wander around and chat to her like nothing's happened?

Oddly enough I'm more interested in talking to Sarly and Shurelia. Sarly's insight on stuff that happens would be pretty interesting, especially her last few talk topics with Earthes.

And Shurelia just for more backstory and if she's aware or going to drop references to all the horrible shit that's just a few years or even months away from happening to Ar Ciel

Oh god, some of Nay and Kanon's last few topics with Earthes were heartbreaking. Now I have to endure three more sets of those? Maybe even four considering Shurelia's going to be saying goodbye forever to Delta too?

Certainly a good thing they got there before some bitchass Teru ruined everything for everyone.

No, I don't care about their reasons, they just made things worse

I wonder if they will explore Sarly putting Delta through the entire game as a controller. I know Taabo will always be Taabo, but still he took it surprisingly well, fast, and understanding. I hope they talk at least a bit about it.
