After a long time of playing this, you just learn you lesson to not trust torpedo sluts for the real work.
You could say that I was on the lucky side too, with the usual yasen equipment, Shimakaze and Myoukou were doing cut-ins left and right. In MY case I feel that the effect stacks. Since I have some free time Im always testing/using crazy builds, the game's more fun that way, you dont need hard proof for everything, if it works, it works.

I usually equip them like pic related but they day combat is extremely weak even if they start one-shooting a ship and they are merciless during night battle. Since you're asking this I assume you must be new, and you must have recently gotten your first CV(L). Okay so green planes fuck the enemy up, and red and blue planes are just vastly inferior. Just put all green planes if you can and put one red plane in the lowest plane slot. Make sure you do this right from the start so you can prepare your CV(L) early to rape the enemy this way.

You have to start early because it's like how elephant trainers break an elephant when they're young by tying them a small post with a small rope that can hold them when they're a baby and then they have sex with the elephant. So that even when it grows much bigger, that small rope will be enough to make the elephant think that it's trapped and they keep having sex with it. Circuses are pretty gross when you learn about then, seriously.

Green planes are fighters, they are needed to secure air superiority/supremacy. Without it, the enemy planes can deal a lot more damage to you during aerial phase combat.

Red planes are dive bombers and use teh Firepower stat for admage. Blue planes are torpedo bombers and increase the CV's non-existant torpedo stat to existant. You can leave the red planes in the smallest plane slot the CV has, their quantity doesn't matter much. (quantity as in plane-per-slot of equipment).

Green planes boost AA stat are necessary to gain air superiority type buffs, (accuracy/crit + etc), they also engage incoming enemy planes during the initial phase, shooting them down lowers the damage done to you.

Red planes use shelling stat, if they make it to the end during aerial they do a weak aoe to the entire enemy fleet. (based on how many planes made it). Shelling/red planes also improve the normal "attack" during the shelling phase.

Blue planes are torpedo planes, during aerial phase if they make it they will shoot a torpedo attack at a random applicable enemy. The # of torpedoes that get fired are equivalant to the number of blue planes sent out and survived. (You can get like up to 6 or 7 shots off).

However carriers have very weak torpedo stat, and the accuracy is kinda poor, so usually it only works on extremely low tier enemies like destroyers.
HOWEVER: there is a specific type of enemy called Installation, the only way for carriers to attack installation type enemies is if they have torpedo planes equipped. (Installation types are like harbor/bases usually bosses).
