I've liked Touhou for years, and I started Kancolle a little over a month ago and I admittedly kinda like it too. That said, I respect what ZUN did to get a fanbase much more than the minds behind Kancolle.

Touhou is a one-man project by someone that had no aims of being as successful as it was. ZUN just wanted to make a game that he himself liked, and if others liked it, well, that's nice too. Considering the gap from when he first started in the mid-90s to when it actually caught fire, it's impressive how he stuck with it.

Meanwhile, Kancolle is like something created in a laboratory scientifically designed to appeal to otaku as much as possible (cute girls of all shapes and sizes, the fact you can marry them, the way they suffer battle damage, etc.).

Kancolle's characters are pretty good, but yeah, the games have virtually no element of tactics. You just get a good setup and ram it against the map until it yields to your 300k/300k/300k/300k/3k resources.

Hopefully Kancolle Kai will fix that.

Kancolle had potential (like pretty much everything does) and it was pretty fun at the beginning. Then the makers decided to mess it all up with terrible manga, decent music, and absolutely horrendous anime which drove all the character personalities into lame boring archetypes.

Hopefully they fix that.

Sir, I play both KanColle and Touhou (and I don't fucking care what names you call me) with a passion and I'm very VERY sure that KC will kick the bucket before Touhou does.
It does have a strong fan-community, but way more secondaries than Touhou thanks to the anime and official merchandise and shit. Many fans already jumped off the bandwagon a few weeks after the anime.
It may now be the stronger franchise, but it won't last forever, especially when DMM and Kadokawa realize that it's not that profitable.
Touhou on the other hand is driven by fans and has a unique fascination to people who got into it. I know my fair share of weebs and of those that were into it the last few years, none jumped off it.
KanColle is a passionate mistress, Touhou your loyal and loving wife, so to speak.

I think that could be a bit of a goldmine in terms of content that could be put out, and leaves itself well open to cool fight scenes.
