Yeah man there was so many things wrong with it and the waitresses were annoyed with how things were run when it was taken over by the "Japanese restaurant" owned by a CHINESE person upstairs. The place was falling apart, the menu was constantly changing and what did them in was the harsh winter cold which really limited the amount of customers. All the original Japanese waitresses high tailed it and the newer Chinese and one Caucasian waitress weren't friendly.

Overall the decor was not very pleasing, (big ugly brown tables) and the spot was way too small.

Why not? If anything the gimmick should attract curious people. The oft mentioned Hooters gained customers after all. Being a coffee house and a manga library/shop is fine on its own. The maids could just be a nice bonus. Putting it near a college like the Detroit one would be beneficial in this case too. You could have like video game nights and stuff and get the local anime club to hang out there.

You could still go the extra effort and have the maids interact with the customers, but using extra archetypes. Americans might be more receptive to tsundere or serious type maids than moe imouto type maids though.
