That brings me memories... I used to have a Ranma 1/2 shrine in Tokyo/garden in 1996, that later was converted in 1997 into a Evangelion one that ripped Koutetsu no Girlfriend art.

How do you make a website page these days like this? was it hard to make these back in the day? Man the masses were actually smart back then. Why does the internet feel so small now? I remember feeling like it was so much bigger and more of a adventure, and since everything was by word of mouth rather then getting updates on Japanese shit every hour, everything was more unknown.

>> No.13297198

>>13297168
It wasn't hard at all. You just learned a bit of HTML, marked up your page the way you wanted it, then FTP'd the result up to wherever geocities (or whoever) told you to. If you were lazy and had too much money on your hands, you bought a copy of Dreamweaver or Frontpage instead.

>> No.13297213

Thats still more than anyone can do nowadays.

I really want to make a website like this but not sure how. Do you have to pay to make a website these days?

everythings about the biggest and most popular sites instead of digging through the masses to find a little site with probably <100 views a week thats actually worth something. not that thats exactly bad, but sites dont really come up a lot when mostly everyone just goes to twitter or something

No. Just run Apache on your home computer and tell people your IP address, then leave it on all the time.

Every retro webpage needs to have:
1) A black background
2) Animated GIFs everywhere
3) At least one "Under construction" page
4) A guest book
5) A visitor counter
6) Frameset.
7) Dreamweaver WYSIWYG meta creator tag.

christ, i miss "web 1.0." i miss the simple layouts. i miss the cluttered and tacky designs. i miss stumbling onto some amazing site after just surfing for hours.

now that everyone is on the internet and things are always updated and busy and blogged and reblogged, etc. it's so hard finding little "quiet spaces" like these old sites. old internet was so quiet, like you were just exploring by yourself. the only thing i can think of now that has that atmosphere are dead forums.

>> No.13311010

>>13297168
back then it was really fun. It is probably me being older and less able to appreciate things now (I somehow feel like I just can't get excited like I did when I was younger).

I used to find all sorts of Ranma 1/2 sites, You're under arrest fansites that captured little rarities and made midi files of the theme songs.

Everything had a personal touch to it and more than anything the otaku sites had archives of things on them, I would sometimes stumble on a ftp filled with anime or manga and it was great, It is completely different now when all the manga and anime is so easily available.

>> No.13311036

Damn searching for old ftps does reveal a whole bunch of old site.
I just found a bunch of servers with old anime I haven't seen in ages.

It's partially 4chan's fault too. You don't have to go anywhere else to talk about anime. You don't have to go anywhere else to find out about new games. Torents, rapidshares, all were linked to you without having to go anywhere to search. Didn't need to look around for answers to a question, you could just wait for replies. Didn't have to browse around for porn or gore pics or dumb flash games when bored. Everything you want and need has always been right here.

Although I can't say 4chan doesn't help you discover lots of sites too.

>> No.13314785

Somehow the blog format became good enough for everything, so even personal websites have no kind of index, gallery, or curated information. It's so generic and linear.

>> No.13314867

Once every part of the internet becomes permeated with spies and censors, nerds will go back to using webrings and links over a world wide web to avoid having to use search engines and being put on various lists. You'll travel from mainstream looking normalfag-friendly sites to dark pages you can only find again if you bothered to bookmark them.
