so, I've recently become fascinated by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

I'm really not sure what to feel right now and want to talk about it.
Does anyone have any personal experiences with the event? any footage?

I can only give you 3 links to follow the current situation at the crippled Daiichi power plant:

I used to follow Fukushima religiously through out 2011. I lost interest when they stopped updating the status as frequently, which was to be expected as the situation stabilized(somewhat).

>implying shit has stabilized
>implying they aren't hush hush, trying to hide this embarrassment from the rest of the world.

and they most definitely don't want other countries(Primarily the US) to come in and fix it themselves

Watching this made me feel a little sick.
I can't imagine if you were inside that car you'd live long.
Seems like the best course of action would be to get out before the water comes, climb a sturdy looking building, and hope for the best.

I've been tracking all videos available. I enjoy watching the disaster which probably makes a bad human being, but it's not like you can see tsunami all day.

I watched a silent documentary of 40 minutes of uncut amateur footage. People went to the roof and recorded everything.

All I remember is that this delayed Madoka Magica's final two episodes for over two months.

Sure, it ended up making episode 10 one of the best episodes ever made, but that wait was fucking terrible.
Fucking terrible.

I went up to Atsugi with part of my squadron two days after it for disaster relief. Helped fill up a few helo's with supplies, fixed them up (I was a mechanic), and got some radiation, but other than that I wasn't too involved.

Shaft works with really tight schedules (which made sense back when they were pumping out 1-2 shows every seasons, not so much with their current output). Both not having an OP/ED for the first few episodes and stuff getting fixed/changed in BD/DVD is typical for them, so getting two additional months to polish two final episodes really made a big difference for them.

That being said, episode 10 (which aired before the hiatus) was just brilliant in general, bringing a whole new perspective for all the episodes before it. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who rewatched the series during the hiatus.

Then move to the Cascadia coast, you might get to experience it for reals! The Cascadia fault is practically a mirror image of the fault that caused the Tohoku Earthquake and it's way overdue for a big earthquake!

Scientist are expecting it to be magnitude 9, which is just about as big as earthquakes get without asteroid impacts! Cascadia's totally not prepared for it too, and power and running water could take months to be restored. Not to mention, the infrastructure will be fucked! That's right all the bridges and overpasses needed to come in and fix everything will be fucked! Some places are expected to only be accessible by helicopters!

And by infrastructure, we also mean a major fiberoptic connection hub connecting the United States to Japan, some other asian countries we don't care about, and New Zealand. And it's gonna be gone for months. That's right guys, when that shit goes down it's going to be slightly harder to get our Japanese cartoons!

I'm glad I live in a part of North America where the only things I have to suffer through are perpetual unemployment and shitty weather.

>> No.13241404

in japan here. I was woken at around 6am by a 6.2 earthquake about 2 years ago and was so freaked out I just lay there watching everything move.

I live extremely close to to the dotonbori canal in osaka which is frequently used in CGI mock ups of what a nankai trough quake tsunami would be like - massive wave wiping out downtown osaka. I'm high up enough that the wave shouldn't fuck me too badly, but of course then I'd still be stuck.

80% chance of such an earthquake in the next 20 years. I'd just watch some animu until I got rescued with the 50 year old drag artist who lives next door.
