I was able to find a few images in the archives with translations, but I only have the thumbnails to go with them. If anyone has a yukkuri collection of untranslated images, /r/ing a megaupload of images from before July. I have the time to sort through them to find the images with translations, and about 10 other images I have thumbnails for, but the full image isn't in the original compilation and doesn't get reposted.

The turning black thing, on the other hand, is featured in a considerable number of Japanese fanfics.

If a koyukkuri is refreshed, a stalk that will bear no child will grow out if its head. This stalk will its nutrients, and turning the koyukkuri black in the process.

Not to mention that it also ensures some safety from the elements as the koyukkuri develop, allowing for long breeding seasons and more successful breeding attempts in climates that would have been considered to be too cold, too hot, or that have high levels of precipitation and few places to "take it easy as mister rain goes away."

The fruit, if plentiful enough, could act as a rain shield for the adult while it looks for better shelter and still ensuring the ko's inside aren't taking the brunt of it.

It is yet to be seen, however, what these fruits taste like, if anything. They could even be just a false fruit, used to distract or even harm predators and not actually having taste or nutritional value.

As for the story,
47 in yu.doc has the first summarized tale of an alice troupe. It only gave birth to alices. This was later retconned by the below, with the explanation that they crushed all non-alices

102. Anon has trained a Reimu-Marisa pair, and keeps them at home. One day, he finds an Alice stuck in a box on the side of the road, with a sign on the box saying "please take care of me". It says that if he lets it out, she'll allow him to take it easy. He decides to experiment with it. He takes it to the Eientei to get Eirin to neuter it (a process involving plunging her fingers into its cheeks and putting some sort of cream in the wounds). He then takes it home, and the Reimu-Marisa pair are horrified. (Normally, when Alices rape another yukkuri, they do so until it rots away. Also, the misconception that yukkuris raped by Alices only give birth to Koalices is due to the fact that Alices eat/rape/both any non-Alice babies.)To show them that it's harmless, Anon lets it rape the Reimu. In the end, they both get refreshed, even though Reimu was horrified at first. Alice is quite perplexed; why are my babies not getting born? (It wanted to rape them.) Long story short, over the course of two weeks, it starts enjoying "refreshing" less and less, and becomes obsessed with making babies.

Keep in mind that it won't always bear that many young. The number of vine-method ko's are attributed to how many times it mated, how many different partners it had, and how much nutrients that mother has in it. (Or so I've been led to believe.)

Perhaps, it really hasn't been discussed all that much. The first picture to have a casing around yukkuri when vine birthing was >>1316130 (or so I've been led to believe). After that it was just the ko's on the vine, open to all elements. The whole "pod" ideal didn't emerge again until recently.

I said especially for that image. Even in the longer comic where the yukkuri only has two fruits, each looks like 1/3-1/4 of the mass of the parent. I would assume that much top-weight would make it difficult to hop. Or even balance.

What? really? That's actually a fairly new picture. At least going by the time it was uploaded (2008/09/02 21:47, filename isn't like something from Futaba). I've seen the tendril method done many times, with the kos just on the outside. That's the only image I've seen where they're like peas in a pod, which is why I said "related?" when posting.

This SEEMS to be the story that inspired this comic

yukkuri marisa and yukkuri patchouli were pet yukkuri that were kicked out by their owners. yukkuri marisa had damaged hat and yukkuri patchouli was too frail so they were thrown out.

Against tough odds, the pair manages to survive together, combining yukku marisa's constitution and yukku patchouli's intellect. However, yukku patchouli realizes that her body is dying and she wants to make a baby with yukku marisa before her life is over. So they conceive a baby while crying girly tears. Yukku marisa becomes pregnant (mammal type) and yukku patchouli dies of exhaustion.

Yukku marisa endures pregnancy by herself, and things seem to go fine until she encounters a yukkuri alice one day. yukku marisa is more than capable of fighting alice, but fearing that fighting would damage the baby inside her, yukku marisa gives in to consensual rape. Marisa was raped in front of the remains of patchu's hat

The rape results in 7 stalks. Stalk types grow much faster than mammal birth types, so all 7 mature first. 2 marisa types and 5 alice types. But mother marisa doesn't play favorites and hates them all unconditionally. Her own child with patchu is born soon after. Patchu is a smaller and unhealthy child. The 7 stalk children has stolen all the nutrition that should have went to patchu and forced her to be born prematurely.

Still patchu loved her sisters and that made marisa very angry. Marisa's neglect and icy treatment of the 7 stalk children continue. They are forced to eat bitter grass every day until there is no more. One day they can't take it anymore and break into the food storage to eat.

Marisa learns about this an kills 1 Alice type.

The other scatter deep into the woods, but Marisa pursues.

Eventually the 2 marisa types were "adopted" by an Alice and was implied to be raped afterwards.

The alice types return home to apologize, but everyone was killed by marisa. A neighbouring yukku reimu witneses the whole thing and just like the comic, marisa is brought to court and sentenced to death, kicking, frothing and screaming.

The end however, is different. There was no rain, and it ends with patchu optimistically waiting for her mother and sister to return. They never do.

But if I could be serious for a moment, I think that setting standards into stone for things like yukkuri takes away from the fun of working with them.

The fact that they're so malleable and fit different situations in different stories is both the greatest strength and weakness they have from a writing standpoint. You can make them act, eat, speak, move, and be anything you see fit as long as they're still yukkuri. Like someone said way back near thread 2 or 3, (paraphrasing this, for the record) "You want them to be caring parents and devoted to each other? Great. You want them to be selfish, childish home-wreckers. Fine." If you put your foot down and say "Stop that, too silly. We all have to agree on how these work. No exceptions." People are either going to ignore it and still write them in their own fashion or just stop writing about them all together. (much to the delight of many on /jp/.) They could also take the definitions set out to heart, but this is 4chan so, yeah, not likely.

It's also a weakness, a point I concede fully. Some of this shit is just weird, even for yukkuri. The whole peni peni thing is just off the deep end, in my opinion. Too much free reign does tend to lead to shit like that and that shit is not good.

I meant from my complaints about contradictions between artists. I believe I'm the only one actually complaining about that.

The only thing I really want set into stone is their basic identity. Stuff like which touhou they're based off of (i.e. do these less heard of types like Kaguya exist?), what they're filled with, specialized behavior and/or speech patterns (Alice from a city sect and a rapist, Remirya slurs her speech and is predatory), and my biggest complaint, if they have bodies or not. The existence or non of Dosuyukkuri probably should also fall here. Those are the only things I want to be absolutely defined and not change (although adding new yukkuri is fine).

For stuff like birthing methods, accessory stuff, if they poop/urinate, lifespan, idea of puberty (example; in the new alice troupe comic, the kos sprouted tendrils. If they went through 'puberty' they couldn't... although I'm sure this would just result in more penipeni shit); this kind of stuff I would not object to people deciding one way or another, but I don't care so much. It bothers me that there is so much contradictory stuff, i.e. in marble eye's breeding comic that was recently done, yukkuri always grow a tendril from the top. That means they don't grow them from where intercourse occured, as I've seen before. And the multiple methods of giving birth. I do not like seeing so many blatant contradictions between artists.

Then there's the stuff that just doesn't make any fucking sense. yes I know I'm talking about yukkuri.
Yukkuri able to attack each other and do serious damage to the other but not the self; yet get sat on with no damage and little/no complaint. Aren't their attacks supposed to be insanely weak? And why don't get hurt themselves as much as the other yukkuri?
Do they drink water? They dissolve in water, and their tounge should be made out of bean paste too.

As for a canon stifling creativity, I really think yukkuri should have something as strict as touhou's canon. That certainly hasn't stifled creativity. And some authors can still make weird shit. The difference between touhou fanon and yukkuri fanon/canon is that with something like this, it doesn't mean Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and Cirno grew up together.

They're magically animated food items. They could magically mutate and obtain new features/lose old ones, such as bodies and birth methods.

For example, the story could go that the Remilia from SDM has a body, and her kids are born with bodies, but some that left SDM mutated and lost their bodies, then some of them mutated further and grow bodies back at the age of 2 months, or whatever.

Yes, because it keeps changing. There's an ASCII art of a pregnant head, which means it must be an adult without a body. And there's several images and summaries where the young are born immediately with bodies. I'm sure there's also others where they are born as a head and grow a body. It keeps changing.
I'm opposed to any of them having bodies, simply because to me a yukkuri is a head. However there is far too much stuff where they have bodies (and are never just a head. The latest Reimu rape comic is the only instance I've ever seen of a bodyless Sikieiki) to simply say "lol no bodies".
I suppose it bothers me much more than it should, as it really is just another example of the authors making shit up as it becomes convenient. But, for whatever reason, it just bothers me to see remiryas alternating between bodied and head states more than stuff like mammal birth vs tendril.

One could just claim they're using artistic license for a lot of your complaints. It's how they see yukkuri and it's how they want to draw yukkuri. If you take something that isn't even in the series canon and let it loose on fans, people are going to take it in different directions.

Yukkuri has some general specifications about it, some of which you pointed out. (Remira's slurring, Alice Raep, ect.) After that, you're free to work with the materials you get (ie: the yukkuri page on the Touhou Wiki) and make something of it. It's kind of like building a computer from scratch to see how aspects of the computer work with other aspects. (it's a flawed analogy, but it's all I have right now.)

Size, behavior, speech, filling, etc is defined to an extent at the Wiki page here: http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Yukkuri_shiteitte_ne!

These are just basic guidelines gathered out of stories/pictures/their asses.

That's all I can really show you in terms of requirements for how to depict yukkuris. Sorry if it isn't much help.

Well, if my memory about Alices is correct, Alice types can only make Alice types through their victim when it's mammal-style birth.

Quoteing from the wiki regarding mammalian birth: Sexual reproduction results in offspring that are identical to either the mother or “father” yukkuri. However, A yukkuri that had intercourse with an Alice-type will only give birth to more Alice-types.

So, if no tendrils appear, then the koyu(s are) going to be an Alice(s).

Even if they weren't sure whether the ko's would be Alice-types or not, they could always roll the yukkuri back to the rape troupe's camp and just wait for the birthing to happen.

From the style it is written, it seems to me that some western anon read the page on wikia and had disagreements with with. Thus he wrote that story to alter the myth.

I remember a somewhat crudely drawn comic about a yukkureimu that got jumped by a Alice rape troupe and rolled back to the camp and was raped multiple times until it escaped while a Cirnoff distracted the Alices (which killed the Cirnoff for it's deed) only to find it was pregnant. Yu-Reimu was stuck on a slightly lower level then the Alice camp, cut off by a river the followed around it's only escape, so it couldn't go anywhere or say anything loudly or it'd get caught.

However, Anon noticed that the kids started decreasing. So, he gets a pair of Nitori-made night vision goggles and goes to see what happens during the night. It turns out that the Alices go into the others' nests, smash the children, and rape the teenaged ones in their sleep. Said teenaged ones wake up to find out that their children are missing, and they have a tendril full of yukkuri Alices sprouting from their heads. After a while, they've overrun the village. They gather the mothers together and gang-rape them. Some of them are sprouting dozens of tendrils, which kills them. After that, having nothing more to pillage, the Alices left for another place.

I have no idea when this was written or what story it's from, but this idea seems to have caught on enough for it to lead to the alice-smash replacement theory.

I like that there's no definite Yukkuri canon, because then canon is whatever I want it to be (Mostly, whatever I think is cute). Anyone who disagrees just has a different canon. It's like canon is taking it easy.
