because of its niche (animu+roguelike) it's going to attract a particular set of crowd. Types that have had no experience with roguelikes in general and don't even know what a "tileset" is.

It has an obvious learning curve, but for people like me who came from playing ToME and shit, it's a welcomed change, and I easily picked it up

It's more of a learning curve to the entire genre itself than just elona.

Rabbits for a chance of a rabbit tail (1+ luck). Potentially trolls and mandrakes for meat buns and mandrake salad. The other missing food augmenter is putits which you got and panties which you can craft. Other good mentions is metamorphose (energy crystal of matrix) and cupids (happy bed). Not sure about bards though (Stradivarius).

Things I can confirm won't work is stray cats (it only makes cats), town child (old villager), Big Daddies (shades), Shades (it breeds whatever it permanently mimics).

One thing I can currently researching is breeding winged snail which produces pure shades which hasn't changed yet.

>>13169394
Ah, my bad, I thought you meant skill (As in Medium Armor, fishing, etc) potential.
For stat potential, the fastest way is just to bless potions of potential and 'G'ive it to your pets.
As for the bell pet, it depends. If you want it to be the solo killing machine, feel free to overload its speed with the Wind Bow. If not, just simply give the bell a good machine gun/repeater if you want to use it or for some reason, another pet would benefit more from it. And I do believe that ether does not effect pets, as I have had an ether pope robe on my fox brother for at least an in-game year with no negative effects, as far as I have noticed.

let's talk about Younger Sisters, and by extension, the Roran race.

Younger Sisters are born (spawned?) fully formed, with outward appearance of a 12-year-old, when certain magic items are used ("Diaries"). They come fully clothed, and with a set of fake memories - they regard the activator of said item as their non-blood-related brother/sister, loves and trusts them unconditionally - so much so that, with some coaxing, they make willing suicide bombers (c.f. Elona Shooter). Unopened Diaries are, therefore, in great demand by slave traffickers as well as Yerles labs, where they are ideal donors for organ transplants and subjects for various experiments.

>> No.13171133

>>13171118
They are angels left in Irva when the hikki God Eyth receded from the world.

>> No.13171166

>>13171118
It is likely that Rorans are the results of genetic experimentation in a previous Era. Evidence follows:

As a member of the Roran race, Younger Sisters are naturally attractive. Perhaps 'naturally' is is the wrong word - their facial features and natural body mannerisms have a significant, measurable superstimulus effect on human subjects, eliciting feelings of protectiveness and warmth, much more than female human children of the same age.

All Younger Sisters have the same facial features, build, hair and eye color. Individual specimens have combined variance of less than 0.5% when freshly spawned. Subsequent living conditions and experiences will lead to variations, but surprisingly little even then.

Younger Sisters are biologically very similar to humans, to the point where organ transplants are possible. Their blood type is always the same as the person opening their Diary, and it is theorized that this was one of the primary motivations for the development of this race.

Little Sisters come with an eclectic selection of skills at spawn, of varying usefulness.

- they can sing with reasonable proficiency.
- they can cook (not well, except for a knack for making chocolates).
- they seem naturally proficient with most weapons. small knives are preferred (due to their size and build), though they can be surprisingly proficient with firearms even with little training.
- as mentioned before, they cause superstimulus reactions of protectiveness and warmth. Even more usefully, even monsters are affected to a lesser degree, enough to cause momentary hesitation (against well-equipped Rorans, this is often fatal).

>>13171204
Breeding of Younger Sisters is not only successful, it is a major component of the local economy in North and South Tyris. Quirks in Roran biology means they can become 'pregnant' with almost any partner imaginable, male of female, human or non.

Technically, 'pregnant' is not the right term, as the baby takes no genetic material from the 'father'. Instead, when Rorans reach sexual climax, they have a small chance (similar to pregnancy chance for humans) of conceiving, using an almost-exact copy of their own DNA.

The children of Younger Sisters are invariably female. Strangely enough, they are not themselves Younger Sisters, but a related Roran specimen known colloquially as Little Girls. Primary differences are hair and eye color (blonde hair and blue eyes vs green hair with brown eyes), and a small variance (~5%) in facial features.

Little Girl babies exit the uterus at comparable weight to human babies, but grow at almost visible speeds. They reach physical and mental maturity within 6 months, with the outward appearance of a human female of roughly 16.

Little girls lack the imprinting mechanism of Younger Sisters. Nevertheless, they are a great favorite with slave traders due to the quick turnaround time. Their larger, stronger build, as well as better availability, makes them better cannon fodder than Younger Sisters.

I play advancing which is this game's normal mode I think. I didn't really gain a lot of progress when I first started playing either. Had to go through a lot of trial and error to see what worked and had to do some research on the elona wiki to see how to do things but it was fun.

The character I now have didn't rush doing the puppy cave. Instead my start was just doing enough hunting and delivery quests to earn me enough platinum to buy the gardening, weight lifting, and cooking skills. I then did a whole lot of harvest quests in Yowyn. The harvest quests gave me fair bit of gold, seeds to generate a food supply, and most importantly it trained my stats. After using the gold I made to get better equipment and having more hp through stat upgrades I then decided to start the scavenging the puppy caves.

Hope you're not throwing all your eggs in one basket. The goal, at the minimum, is to invest in every magic vendor you see, not just one, until their rank is at least 100. By the time I get to the point where my potentials need help I should have around 6 or more potions of potential from visiting my invested magic vendors in each town and home. Also, later potential solutions are making potions of potential via alchemy or crafting picnic baskets to consume.

I've been going to the Maid Mansion in ST for the easy material collections that appear in the basement from time to time, but going into dungeons is just tiresome, and not sure if it's just me, but higher level dungeons give better/more materials, which results in it taking longer. Find a strong weapon and get a tonfa shield at the earliest convienence. Spellcasters are hard to startout with because of the whole having to read books to keep spell stock up bs.

After a while, any character will have a decent stock of all their spells if they regularly invest in magic shops and buy out their books on each visit

and like normal elona, you'll ideally want to read the books in a place with a bunch of guards around to handle any monsters that might come out. I once had a level 40 snake and giraffe come out from it and I was only level 29 at the time

Good choices are bardaches, high level katanas, etc. you'll probably want to go with the weapon that you have the highest level / proficiency in

I've tried staves and personally I think they're usless unless they have an obscene amount of magic capacity or some shit.

Kill the bosses in dungeons. Hope that medals drop. Repeat until you have a lot and exchange them at Garok's workshop for hermes potions. Bless the stack of hermes potions and consume them. Also, search for medals in towns and other places. Potions of upperspeed are nice. You can find them sometimes when dungeon crawling.

Since I'm level 58 I have a decent range of dungeon danger lvs I can go into and I go into any dungeon with a danger level equal to my level or lower. Lower dungeon lvs are nice because they are fast clears and whether or not the boss drops medals is not dependent on dungeon danger lv.

Having said all that speed is nice but you should also spend medals on scrolls of growth and bless the stack. Having 400% potential in all your skills is nice.

At mid game it's still useful but you need to gear your mount.

>The -30 karma penalty is incurred by killing the following animals:

Cats: Cat, Stray Cat, Silver Cat, Twintail
Dogs: Dog, Sheepdog, Silver wolf, , Padangu, Poppy, Dog Cop, Pascal

I tried No Future and everything else is manageable, except for the above rule. When you explorer a dungeon and suddenly there's a room full of dogs (which still remain hostile btw)... HAVE FUN! Also since they randomly appear where ever, you have to take every round slowly, so that you dont accidentally kill them.

If you take a hunting quest, above animals can appear in those as well, like in normal mode and the karma penalty still applies, even though they NEED to be killed to complete the quest.

So theoretically and tediously it can be done, but it would not be fun. Never take hunting quests. When you go to a dungeon which needs to be cleared to bottom floor always have a lot of money and way to have incognito for indulgence + lots of lost suitcases and wallets...

I mean, hell, I've got a level 80 character who's only died thrice, once when I botched a pickpocket attempt on a potion of potential carried by Lulwy, once when I kamikazed a dungeon boss to get rid of sickness and walked in to fight a level 467 Atlas naked, and once when I pretty much fell asleep holding the 'f' key and a Great Race of Yith insanitylocked me while Lityou ate my face. No, the description's somewhat misleading. Kumiromi means you recover an extra point of stamina per action. That is, per thing you do that takes at least one turn. So if you hit the "skip 1 turn" key fifty times, that's fifty extra stamina recovered. If you hit the "skip 50 turns" key, that's just one extra stamina recovered, since that's one action.

And last I checked, it doesn't trigger for anything that consumes stamina. It's still great for keeping stamina up, but it won't let you infinitely spam perform.

About to get into gene engineering, any tips/advice? I want to avoid giving my pets extra arms and stuff. This is just to add skills they don't have.

Uh... Get rich? It'll tell you if the donator will donate a limb. (I)nteract and label your actual pets a precious ally so you don't merge them into something useful.

Little girls have traveler and shit. The rogue wizard has cooking for your wife. Fallen soldiers have control magic for god knows why. Just look at the skill set of the slave trader guy. If you started with one, a dog has swimming, eye of mind, a bear has eye of mind, a cat and vampire bat have greater evasion. Once you get in the late teens+ you'll rarely get a useful non-slave trader pet. You can plop these in a ranch so you can poop out a greater evasion etc as needed. Between those and something with a full slot set on a ranch you'll get all 13.

If you want nonstandard 13's you can catch mutants/big sisters and use those.

And read the wiki articles.

Once you get in the late teens+ you'll rarely get a useful non-slave trader pet from reading a scroll of ally*

>> No.13203151

Scrolls of ally are way too random. I found it easier to just go out the the wild, a dungeon or summon up a few monsters and cast dominate on the desired ones. Of course, you have to be a guild mage with a literacy good enough to read the domination books you ordered for. Trying to recharge the books will be close to impossible first but it will work out soon enough. No need to waste millions on them later on.

I have an item called "a little ball"

Description reads "This ball give's you unique powersc"
"It is precious."

What does this item do?

>> No.13203608

>>13203498
It's still faster and more efficient for me to just summon monsters and dominate the one I want than reading 100 ally scrolls. Not to mention when you're already in South Tyris and higher level, it's easier to look for your desired monster that way(or to invest in the monster-ball shop and go dungeon diving).

>>13203544
It's for the quest in the Cyber dome. The ball is used to capture Little Sisters that spawn after you defeat a Big Daddy. The quest makes it possible to get Any Artifact that you already once had, like a Lost Godly weapon or happy apples.
You can get any number of balls from the scientist in the dome as long as you can carry them, so it's nothing precious.

Holy shit man you're a big fucking faggot, all he said from the beginning was that playing this mode was tedious as fuck to be done properly, not difficult. I'll say I agree with his point as well.

>Oh noooo, I'll have to hit two keys if I see a dog! Two keystrokes, however will I survive?
And that's not diffcult at all, nobody ever said it was. It's just unnecesarily tedious. I swear I've seen some retards in here but you really are up there when it comes to understanding a basic-as-fuck post.

While on the subject, is there a limit to how many times you can do the quest in Elona+?
Says something about a cap of 10.

>> No.13203863

>>13203806
No, the little sister cost per item as a reward increases by one per reward. The first takes one sister, the second takes two more, the third three more. Etc. The number requires caps at ten, you can complete the quest as many times as you want if you find enough sisters.

Fortune cookie:
The game could not choose valid fortunes as your saved game is corrupted

http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Fortune_cookie

Apparently that is a false message purposefully put into the game the get players nervous. THIS IS HORRIBLE GAME DESIGN! YOU DONT DO THAT!

In Metal Gear Solid when fighting spycho mantis, you cannot be fooled for long that your tv is not working. This on the other hand could be a completely valid message.

>> No.13204694

>>13204632
I remember getting a cookie that said that. Considering Elona is a roguelike that doesn't take itself too seriously I don't think such a message is out of place. The game also has a habit of trolling players such as the don't read me book. Stuff like this and others kinda tipped me off that the fortune cookie was probably a joke like some of the other false fortune cookies. As for horrible game design I disagree but hey if you don't like it make your own game or play something else.

Good ol' fortune cookies. A magnificent art much neglected in modern gaming
>A cockatrice corpse is guaranteed to be untainted!
>A chameleon imitating a mail daemon often delivers scrolls of fire.
>A glowing potion is too hot to drink.
>A staff may recharge if you drop it for awhile.
>Always attack a floating eye from behind!
>They say that you should call your armor `rustproof'.
>Tired? Try a scroll of charging on yourself.
>You can get a genuine Amulet of Yendor by doing the following: --More--
>You swallowed the fortune!
>Segmentation fault (core dumped).

You must be retarded.

Elona is full of shit like that and there's no way *save* corruption would affect that.

Please don't tell me you're stupid enough to think a list of random fortune strings is somehow generated for each save game instead of all of them coming from the same prewritten list.

Anyone got the details on what sprites are used by maids or is it the same 'random' batch as adventurers?
