I love how eccentric kogasa is.

The barrier talk in this chapter is actually pretty interesting. Also the astronomy bit, it was neat to see one of Marisa's interests touched on.

So Kogasa has blacksmithing abilities now. That seems pretty contrary to her character, but that's neat in and of itself.

I always wanted a blacksmith in Touhou. It is nice for ZUN to use Kogasa and now her surname makes a lot more of sense.

What we know about SA makes me think that every route is relatively canon and the stories of every playable characters blend, only thing that only one character will clear the whole game.

It's not just "being there", Yukari says she and Reimu beat up the undergrounders. We also know that Reimu is the one who cleared the extra stage because of the extra epilogue that explicitly says Reimu was the one who complained to the gods about making her have to solve an incident, said epilogue even has a quote that Reimu says during her A battle dialogue with Koishi, when Suwako appears.

It also doesn't make sense for others to have helped Reimu because there's nothing hinting that and Suika and Aya have their own conversations, all you have is a baseless assumption. It also makes sense for Marisa to only have gotten to stage 3 since the first 3 bosses are pretty much plot-irrelevant, so there wouldn't be contradictions with Reimu's route.

Only if you think of "canon routes" as though it was an exact sequence of events, and not an ambiguous mishmash of "things that happened". It's been the case since the very beginning of Windows that exposition made in the good endings are all true, which is much more important than the detail of who might have been the one to beat up the baddie. The only thing keeping you from this is the assertion that there must be exactly one sequence of events that excluded all others.

SSiB makes it obvious that Reimu seems to have solved the incidents from Scarlet Mist to Sixty-Year Cycle. However, this doesn't mean that the events in other routes didn't happen, which is what's really important. If you get to the point where you can accept that the endings all happen, that various characters set out to solve an incident, and that the fights happen between multiple characters, it makes little sense to demand that exactly one character solves the incident.

In SoPM she knows Satori and Koishi at least. In GoM it's made clear she's fought all of them at some point, and even notes specifically (and repeatedly) that she saw Utsuho's Spell Cards at the heart of the underground.

Regardless, saying that Marisa B's route is the most important route was only because it leads directly into the Extra Stage. The events in every Good ending all happened anyways, so I don't think it points to any one route being "more" canon. In fact, under the premise that all routes are an ambiguous mishmash, one would expect that there would be plenty of ambiguity across the different works regarding how incidents were solved, and that arguments would pop up about which "really" happened because there would never be anywhere that excludes one or the other.

Yeah, danmaku duels are super-relaxing. Touhou is laid-back, yes, but it's still more than just that, such as the theme of youkai and humanity requiring each others' existences despite being enemies, christ that was what SoPM was all about!

Gensokyo isn't some magical waifu land, you know. It's also not a grimdark hellhole before you pull that one out.

But Kogasa is one of the most harmless youkais, and do it for necesity, she need to "eat" fear to survive and she try to get that fear by surprising people, after that she is a good person, she even try to act as the mary poppins of touhou. While some youkais like Rumia that "need" to eat human flesh, could be considered more dangerous, she is also acting out of neccesity, and youkais like tengu and kappas don't need any of that, a true dangerous and evil youkai would be one acting for pure malice, probably like any of the ones living in the underground, since they are exiled and don't interact with humans that often, they can survive without the need of attacking, but if they attack without reason, is for pure evil.
