They're on a 1/3 ratio at worst and that doesn't mean either of the two will die because the other exists, Touhou just stopped being the big thing it was, and that was a long time ago, but unlike Rozen Maiden or Higurashi instead of dying it just got calm. And hell, everyone before KanColle complained about Touhou being too popular and muh secret club and now you guys complain about the fact it doesn't occupy one third of the comiket anymore.
Either way I couldn't care less about its popularity and neither does ZUN who passes his dead time at thinking what's the best way to ruin the perception of a fan pairing.

Now you're almost right, its main problem is MMD itself, who gives a shit about making OCs when I can just copy paste some models on a stock dancing animation for a flavor of the month song? (And that applies to Touhou and its flash PVs too) What's killing Miku is her fans. I think a easy solution would be releasing an easy to use Miku for the west since there still are a shitload of weebs who like her there. Then again, I don't even even like Vocaloid so I don't care.

Nobody does Comiket for a living, dude. Most of these people have day jobs.

Becoming a published mangaka is fucking hard. Comiket is loaded with people who are trying to "break out" of the doujin scene but unless you have an amazing amount of time and dedication and creativity you're not going to be able to pitch something that an editor will want to put into a serialized magazine. It's a whole different game. In Comiket, how many people buy your comic? A few hundred, if you're excellent - but that doesn't mean that you can come up with something that will complete with serialized manga at the national level.

A lot of people always talk about Kancolle killing Touhou (and Idolm@ster), but they (almost) never compare it with Love Live.

It is not doubt that Kancolle is the biggest thing with doujin circles right now, but I am pretty sure LL is a lot more popular, or maybe I should say, more mainstream.
I am pretty sure the anime won't sell as much as LL.


And no, Touhou isn't dead, but it was never trying to be a big franchise.
It is almost like saying Madoka or Attack on Titan are dying because less people are drawing or talking about them right now (and without doubt, they are more popular than Kancolle).

Miku has been dying for a while and Pokemon has also really been either nostalgia or passed on by parents who grew up on the GameBoy Pokemon games.

The major difference between 2hu and Kancolle is that ZUN actually cares about quality, whereas Kancolle is a freemium cash grab.
