IA is the gaudy, masculine sounding version of Rin that never needed to exist and only does because of the popularity of Vocaloid. I can't believe she is getting a game.

GUMI is a lesser evolved Luka and despite hearing her on many albums, I haven't heard a single really good song. She has a lot of average ones but no extremely good ones.

Conversely, Miku and Rin have a lot of really, really good songs and Rin in particular has over half a dozen really good solo albums.

Anything that isn't Crypton hasn't been particularly striking. Can't beat the originals.

This is the central point, but its not BETTER artists its simply MORE. Popularity acts as a gravity well for artists, if something is already big (being the first + diva games) and fulfills its purpose, it will get even bigger. (when meanwhile, kaitoV3 doesn't meet its purpose of providing for a straight male)

It's true that you have a hard time finding albums for so called "noname" loids. That doesn't verify they are bad, but just underused with getting maybe 2 songs in an otherwise Crypton album with a Miku cover.

Nobody has the right to say Rin is bad, especially since the appends. But when you don't like particular voices you tend to get upset about the over-representation of some of them.

On a last note, i don't think Lia can be seen as an idol, unless one calls Megumi Nakajima an idol too. For a good Vocaloid, you need a good provider, as easy as that. Ironically as Crypton made their first vocaloids, it was seen sceptical in the world of professional singers to let them "steal" their voice. When i remember correctly Gackt was one of the first to advocate professionals to give their voice to "conserve" it for the future.

Speaking of IA, I will never understand why she was such a hit instead of Yukari. They came out at the same time, and I was expecting Yukari to be the new hotness, since she has some of the absolute best vocals, plus she is a talkloid on top of it. Not to say she isn't popular, she just didn't become a superstar that can back an AH-Soft concert like I'd dreamed of. Her and IA do sound amazing together however.

Megumi Nakajima has one of the arguably most distinct voices out of all popular VAs. Miku's quality just can't keep up with the newer Vocaloids regardless how many upgrades they put on her, since her VA isn't that good to begin with. IA is clearly an improvement on Miku if you look at how much the default package can do where you require append packs with Miku to do the same thing.

It is more complex than that. The first thing is AH-Soft never was the best at advertising and aimed Yukari at producers more so than to viewers. Then 1st Place's shilling for IA is the most intense i've seen for a Vocaloid time and time again and now the same for ONE. Also don't underestimate the /a/-fag magnet that was Kagerou Project. Lastly Yukaris voice is rather fleeting and can't do the fast paced rock from the likes of Jin that made IA popular. (popular with the plebs i might add because Jins use of IA actually diminished her value most of the time)

Does anyone else feel like the Vocaloid scene is shit right now? I haven't heard any good albums come out since No Title+ last year. I've grabbed a few good individual songs here and there but not nearly as many as a few years ago. Lately I listen to the weekly rankings and don't hear anything that I want to download.

IA is a much nicer sounding bank than Rin, and I like Rin a lot. IA sounds much more mature and realistic, and she's awesome in trance stuff.

GUMI is probably one of the best voicebanks right now in terms of sheer vocal quality and realism. I love Luka dearly but they have to step their game up with V4 a lot if they want to compete.

Miku creators have a very bad tendency to keep tuning with her highest fucking registers and making her sound really shrill. This tendency happens with all of the female banks actually because the fucking nips think a voice stops being cute if it drops below C5, but with Miku especially the problem runs rampant (probably just because of sheer volume). A few guys like ryuryu, GigaP, and livetune can use her well in various ways, but she has her issues.

I have the same feeling, really, my list of producers that I follow haven't released anything for the latter half of last year. All the big names seem to work on a project by project basis (see: Jin, Kemu, etc)

As far as Jin goes, I'm a big fan of his compositions but he's a huge offender regarding what I spoke about in >>13086375 with producers tuning the Vocaloids way too harshly. His IA just grates on the ears in most of his work, though a few songs such as "Ayano's Theory of Happiness" cool it a bit (and sound much better for it).

I'm honestly not surprised that older producers have disappeared with the way Crypton operates. An endless cycle of delays and cuts (Kaito only having English and whisper for example?), and failures that they will "redo" at a later unknown date like the proposed second Miku English bank.

I'm fully expecting Luka V4 to have two somewhat acceptable voice banks, and then to be promptly forgotten again.

Crypton has always been quality second and merchandizing above all, and Luka just can't sell seats when so many otaku consider 20 old and busted.

I don't think their releases have been all that bad overall, just inconsistent. Kagamines V2 was pretty bad, but Kagamines append was a huge improvement. Likewise, Luka has always been pretty great too (let's hope the V4 delivers). Miku English was awful though, but that's partly justified by the fact that the VA doesn't speak English.
