>> No.13075679

The big advantage is that it lets you isolate more of the lane so you can zero in on what you really want to focus on while cutting out anything that isn't relevant yet that can distract you from catching the corner of your eye. Higher speed mods will help a lot on songs with slowdowns and charts with whiplashing BPMs, like Mind the Gap.

>>13075586
i don't know what your definition of extremely high is, but generally you want to work on reading as fast as you reasonably can.

>> No.13076177

>>13075586
I'd say none. It's a good way to warm up fast though. I tried to purposely train and it didn't do anything you wouldn't get playing normally.

Reaction takes over when you've burned it into your brain. That takes a lot of repetition and time. If you'd play roughly four hours a day it would take maybe half a year. Then you'd feel comfortable enough so you wouldn't think much about hitting the buttons and it's more about timing and reading.
It's a good feeling once you're there, but try to remain aware of your hands, positioning, etc. This will help you at higher levels when you need more dynamic control over your hands.

As little bonus tip, you don't always have to play at your limits. You can play easier songs. This will help you stack up those hundreds of hours.

>> No.13076184

>>13076156
>i don't know what your definition of extremely high is, but generally you want to work on reading as fast as you reasonably can.
Faster is not necessarily better. If it's too fast you'll spend too much of your energy on reading and not the actual flow of the chart and timing.

>> No.13076290

>>13075586
For me the speed increase is completely natural, as I get better I find myself actively wanting the notes to scroll faster.

>> No.13076823

You will switch between higher or lower green number as you go along many times. It will change naturally.

It's a very minor thing. I could switch to 450 and get used to it in few hours and then to 270 or whatever.
Finding or knowing your sweet-spot in the early late game is more important to keep your timing consistent. You will get past that as well. Don't overthink.

Just got my Sanwa adapater (PY-PSUAD11) in the mail today and I can't get it to work whatsoever. Once in a while it will let me input shit and then just stop, and LR only registers up scratch, select, and start. The buttons are definitely registering on my computer since the Lincle config recognizes them all, but anything later I've been shit out of luck.

I'm playing on a DJ Dao from around 2010~2011

>>13078464
I am not playing Lincle but noted that it worked with Lincle at first but worked with tricoro and later once I recopied bemanitools.

I will buy an arcin/pcb in time, but I want to do a quality test with the controller to see what parts might or might not need replacing first. So far, I think I need at least two new key buttons, two LEDs, and a different set of microswitches, but I still want to confirm some other stuff as well. If I can get it all set up and working for a month, then I will make some upgrades.

If you just want to build ratio, you'll get most of it during freeleeches anyways.

I had a tricoro leak and an FPS for a good month or two before I got into sows, you really don't need it right away. For now just dive into the community - learn more about the games, if you've got a local arcade go to it and meet some people, do research on how torrents and seedboxes work if you're not familiar with that stuff, just make yourself a better candidate for whenever you have contact with someone with invites.

Go for FPS unless you're dead set on pop'n. The KOC and ASC are oceans apart, and not just because of fancy lights and turntable distance. Jackhammering on a KOC is a pain in the fucking ass and even the standard buttons and Honeywell micros significantly improve that, the buttons seldom stick due aforementioned springs assist in the recoil on release, and the sound gives you better audio queues of your rhythm. As a bonus, the new PCB has native compatibility with the PC so you won't need an adapter anymore.

Also, I think that pop'n ASC might turn out being quieter since it's not HARD FUCKING ASS PLASTIC ON HARD FUCKING ASS PLASTIC ACTION if you have something really sturdy to play it on.

I think an epub or pdf copy is available somewhere, but I can't remember where I found it. The guy isn't a very good writer (and he's pretty badly biased) but it gives some really interesting perspective if you're at all interested in this sort of thing. Probably the most interesting thing is how he talks about konami's attitude at the test sites, saying that they actively targeted the "average" (read: struggles with 7 footers) player as opposed to the players aiming for AAA. This has changed a bit (new difficulty scale, making fantastics global, adding harder songs) but the game still has dull charts that don't fit well with the music or are horribly convoluted with meaningless crossovers and time changes (but apparently this is what Japanese players like?).

Back when the series came out (ignoring R21/hacking/KONAMI WILL SUE, etc.):

Challenging without having to always result to gimmicks (but sometimes does), decent difficulty curve that doesn't alienate newcomers, better speed mods even if you ignore CCs, arrow skins that were much easier on the eyes (remember trying to read arrows on Drifting Away on Max 2 AC it was a pain in the fucking dick), larger variety of modifiers, higher sound quality due to not running on PS1 hardware, better pad construction due to partnering with Andamiro, USB ports were more reliable than DDR AC memory card slots and kept track of personal bests and edits, a scoring system that better reflects progress, significantly less syncing issues (but there were still a few), patches made to tweak minor issues and add content and NOT fix a broken-on-release game (sup Supernova), and actually listening to consumer feedback. While the song list had its ups and downs, it was mostly passable.

Doubles charts still suck ass on both fronts, but ITG wins that as well.

none of a certain group's established social norms should ever be reconsidered because of what other people think? surely you don't actually believe that, right? Okay? As you said those people have already been in the arcade for years. They are already part of the community. You are talking about attracting new people? Stop contradicting yourself.
>you strawmanning.
I never said never, that's from your mouth. I'm for change if it's rational and helps the community as a whole, but myself and others are skeptical of this change. Don't strawman if you're interested in a real and productive discussion.

Since you're going to need this succinctly stated:

a) Tell me who you are referring to when the largest number of invites as of late are 4chan (but you claim community members who have "been in the arcade scene for years"?).

b) Present a more nuanced claim against my argument since all you did was strawman an either/or dichotomy out of a general rule which never stated to what degree the rule should be followed? Obviously I'm open to discussion as to what degree it should be followed so why not discuss that instead of presenting another unproductive and lazy argument?

StepMania died when it became an e-spurt. No one plays StepMania on a beige Compaq Presario keyboard anymore. No one puts their shitty Acer monitor through the wall after failing Maid of Fire for the nth time. There are no StepMania themes, just the same ultra high visibility noteskin and black lanes obscuring the background. Every simfile plays exactly the same (and sounds the same, too), because there are only so many ways to increase the density of the chart when you have just four keys, and only so many high BPM death metal songs to throw in for background music after the chart's done.

I don't believe there is a way to use "generic" card readers. The real hardware readers do work and just require a different .dll, but why use them if you don't have a legit cab?

Correct on SDVX. If you are using the card reader it is assumed all the i/o is coming from the same device so all buttons/LEDs must also be hooked up through it. You could rewire the entire Dao controller with a small change to read analog values instead of pulses for the knobs in the ardiuno code.

USBemani is a board that allows for PC compatibility without the use of adapters and less input lag compared to the other boards out there. Annoying thing about it is that soldering is required.

Arcin board is a board which has quadruple the polling rate of the DJ Dao board which allows for better scoring due to the polling being 1000hz vs 250hz. Acts as a "drop in" replacement, meaning that if you have 4pin setup, all you need to do it hook them up to the board. Can also work with the console games, but you need some soldering work.

Both use micro USB hookup.

I don't know the full details of this particular situation, but I think the problem here is that you can't expect mods to patrol certain problematic threads. It's like asking a cashier making minimum wage to bring your meal out to you at a fast food restaurant. I realize that having no mods around can turn a thread into a ghetto, but the alternative is just banning the problematic threads altogether. Imagine if the threads were about fantastical drawings of imaginary lolis instead. Ignoring the legal questions, would you really expect mods to keep that kind of thread civil?

You act like the only thing people talk about on special interest forums is whatever interest they were originally focused on.

It's not like we were derailing important threads pertaining to rhythm games to needlessly talk about ourselves; it was solely in general discussion and VIP (which is just general discussion for people who can dickwag their ability to donate $5 to a website that already has a pile of cash its administration doesn't know what to do with).

>>13121020
Yeah, I understand that completely. The mods even said that they felt they weren't equipped to moderate discussions about social issues if they got too heated. It was just sort of fucked up that almost out of no where, totally unprovoked, two threads that were centralizing /lgbt/-talk (threads that were effectively dissuading people from gayshitposting all over the place) got nuked (not even locked or trashed).

>think about it like this: if you were autistic enough to find joy in pushing buttons to the sound of music yet self-aware enough to hate yourself but still interact other human beings, why wouldn't you be an alcoholic/drug addict
Because it's so much more stupid than pushing buttons? Sows board is terrible. If you'd take out few interesting and useful topics it's literally the same as this, but worse. Out of 7k members only the worst communicate. It's bad even for 4chan standards.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I thought or believed sows would bring together people with common interest in music games. The most interesting people have empty profiles with 0 posts or comments and I can see why. They don't want to get involved with that shit. They literally discuss everything related to games anywhere, but on sows.

I seriously hope somebody start releasing cracked AC data to public so everyone can get back to basics. Public board, taking screens and posting scores. PSun is great, but with a bad, broken community behind it there's no use for it.

No butts or butthurting involved.

I don't want the HDD source to quit just because you want to dickwag your scores to your Facebook friends who don't give a fuck anyway.

Fuck off. SOWS was not created to be a community for minorities or any of your snowflake "identities": It's a website for music gamers. You haven't even been on the site half as long as most of us and you're pushing bullshit down our throats. As someone else pointed out, "identity politics" and other related bullcrap have pushed multiple users in this thread from the community and the board. Every time people like you enter a community you try to mold it to your liking and destroy what is already good and well. Get the fuck out.

Of course nobody wants sources to be in danger any more than they are now. It won't happen. Don't crap yourself. I was only pointing out the absurdity of sows community.

Obviously the only one who has facebook account is you and so far I haven't taken part of any "dickwagging."

Maybe try to pick on my post again so we could perhaps have an interesting change of perspectives?

>whining
do you just assume anyone who disagrees with authority is "whining"? lol

>>13121515
That quote is extremely hyperbolic, if you couldn't tell; recreational drug use with friends is really fun.

The sows boards are pretty moderately terrible, but a large number of the active posters are really tight-knit and make an effort to meet and hang out in real life, so there are a lot of unseen conversations and events transpiring that can't be understood by just reading the forums. If I had to say, I think I prefer discussions on sows over 4chan because they often feel more sincere.

Sows does bring a lot of people from various circles of life together through the mutual interest of music games. You just have to make a genuine effort (or be an otherwise "useful" member) to be "accepted".

I wouldn't say that the most interesting members are the ones who don't participate in the social aspect of the site. I've met a lot of US bemani people over the last year, posters and lurkers alike, and even people who shitpost as hard as I do are often really cool people.

It would be nice if everything could be publicly available so that everyone has the same opportunity to push buttons and bitch about charts and share scores, but the (very justified) paranoia and fear that comes with being what essentially amounts to an international online piracy ring means that unless some other really ballsy Japanese people with access to original arcade hardware are willing to risk jail sentences for the sake of something as trivial as giving people outside of Japan access to niche video games, it just won't happen.

>>13121721
If the discomfort brought on by the discussion of "identity politics" is strong enough to destroy a community, either the community was shit to begin with, or the ones being "pushed out" are overly sensitive to being negatively portrayed in a light they don't understand.
