I ran a mile in 14 minutes, cooked myself lunch, didn't get high, spent 4 hours programming low-level function timers in C, and watched an episode 1 raw of Strike Witches and understood 80% of it without assistance. Pretty good sunday for me.

I patched the part of the roof on my house that was blown off by Hurricane Ike this weekend (Manual labor in your /jp/? It's more likely than you think!). After it got dark, I ran to my friend's house as he got electricity back and played some so-so RTS game and read that MaidRPG thread.

/jp/ has been slow lately, so I've been practicing life drawing (read: drawing porn) and playing my guitar all day.

If you play that right you can actually benefit from option b quite well. Presently, only around 3% of all study abroad students coming from america to other countries are engineering majors of any sort. Hell, other countries send their engineers here to learn, and they're actually interested in getting some back but so far american colleges just aren't paying up.

They're pretty desperate for study-abroad engineering students so even if you're only so-so academically you could get into a decent japanese college for a year. However, if you're some humanities or liberal arts major, you're just one in a million.

Money is a man-made abstraction to simplify bartering for goods and services. Having enough to live comfortably is important. Having more is only useful in demanding goods and services from others and/or to ensure their own ability to live comfortably.

Being paid extra for what you actually want to do in life is a bonus, not a necessity.

The point I was trying to make is you don't need to learn something nobody knew for it to qualify as learning. It only needs to be something you yourself didn't know.

As for "contributing to society", I highly doubt most of us here give back anything more than tax money, and even then it only applies to those of us who work.
For you to be so buttsore about it, I assume you must be paying for poor childrens medical treatment and reading them stories on your off hours, but I get the impression that taxes are about the extent of your contribution as well.

Why the fuck would I want great skill and wealth, since everyone else in the world is striving for it anyway? You work/train 10 hours a day? Someone is working 12. Someone in China or Japan is doing 15. Something I don't get is this continuous improvement shit.
