This is something I don't understand. P2W means "Pay to Win", but what is "Win"? You can't really "win" mobage, this is the reason people give it a different meaning to the word.

For example:

Getting all the cards in the game: This is impossible in most games, even the ones with trade. Most people go only for the rarest/strongest card and you generally need money or spending a lot of time.

Ranking high: A lot of games let you rank high for free if you are prepared, but people who spend money generally have some kind of advantage.

Complete story/main campaign: This is super easy in most games, generally events are the main goal of a game.

Win PvP duels: The person with better cards should win (if some kind of stupid AI or RNG isn't involved) , even if there is some kind of gameplay. And to get the best cards you generally have to pay or grind hard.

Completing all the events: This actually fluctuates a lot from game to game. Some are pretty easy to complete (this means getting all the event cards, excluding ranking rewards). Others are just stamina draining events that you can get only by buying recovery items. Or too hard raid bosses that only high level guilds/unions can kill.


After reading this, you probably are thinking that all the games are P2W. But here is the main catch.
People play games because they think they are fun. If it is fun, it doesn't matter if they rank very low or don't have a super rare team. Most of them are free players.
In Valkyrie Crusade (the game that is hated in /mbgg/), I find some of my oldest comrades with a highest rank below 5000. And they log at least once a week. You have to think why are they still playing the game or bother to log.


My motto is "if you pay, you lose". I wouldn't be playing F2P games if I had money.
I don't even have a last generation console (PS3, 360, Wii).


So, to answer you question, yes, it is true, but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the games.

I wanted to write it in the previous post, but Guns Girlz is finally coming to Japan (it is already in English).

This is the prefect example of a game that you can't advance far if you don't spend money or grind a lot of rare weapons, just to be strong enough to grind a lot to get event weapons. And even with event weapons, it will be pretty hard.
But it can be fun to play.

I don't play offline game on my phone.
The only thing I have to play offline are Cytus and Deemo (they aren't Japanese apps) and emulators.

Sometimes I download some to test them (generally apps from Moedroid), but I don't stick with them. Well, I played Moedroid Jump until I beat all the levels (but not 100%)

Other times, I just download random apps from QooApp and end up getting shit like the one on the pic. You only need wifi to download the data the first time, but you can play it offline. I don't recommend it.

Not a penny spender is fine (i havent spend any either), not active is not. The gist is you have to work your way up in your weapon collections until you finally able to kill event's extreme bosses and get 3 star ssr weapons.

The devs are pretty generous about gems, but you have to save them. Every once in a while they will throw you ssr rate x 2 promo for one day only. Roll 3000 gems only at this time. I don't say you're guaranteed SSR characters, but it increases the chance.

Yeah I've somehow reached that point but unfortunately not for every elemental team. I have all teams with at least full SR and only two SSR characters. The only element I'm short on is Dark - I only have one rare character there.

I think it's more like Merc Storia based on the screenshots. You build up points in battle to summon units, and you either invest in upgrades to improve the amount of points you get or invest in upgrading/healing your units. They move forward and auto attack for the most part, and you can slide in special attacks or do a chain special.

I find it interesting they force you to play the event song to unlock special story chapters.
This way, people (like me) can't farm easier songs for points. But it is worth since I like the original Seventh Sisters group.
You could just play in Easy to unlock the chapters quickly, but it is a waste of points and time.

At early levels, it's all about resources. You have to protect your resources, and you have to attack resources in PvP. Once you get stronger, you can shift your focus to victories.

So, just protect your storage. You can worry about protecting your keep, the main building, once you get stronger. You only lose resource if the enemy attacks resource buildings.

If you are diligent with the PVE/story mode, you'll get enough crystals through achievements to buy a 4th builder, and once you get into the late-game of this style you'll find that building times take so long and are so expensive, you wont really need a 5th builder.

Actually they really seem to be handing the crystals out pretty generously. I'm already back at 500 having just spent 1k on the 4th about a day and a half ago, and I'm only playing during my commute and while pooping.

My shield just expired and my consensus so far (and same with CoC) is that this style of game is one of the truest F2P experiences you can get. Although the whole "revive unit mid battle with crystals" feature worries me a bit (but I'm not 100% sure this is allowable during pvp)

After playing for a day, I think the game isn't bad, but it is a waste of potential.
There are a lot of things that could be improved, but probably they will just leave them like they are now.

For example, you can't dress up the girl. She only changes clothes when you get to different stages.
The cards are just for your attacks (the rare get a voiced phrase), so it is a total waste to not use the clothes in the cards.

Also, this game is a 100% solo game, there isn't anything "social".
A lot of games force you to befriend people. like adding a friend card to help you. For some reason, this game doesn't do that, no friends at all.
And that also means no rankings, but that could change.

But the "worst" thing is that there is only one girl. She doesn't look bad, but more girls would have been better.

No, it isn't.
It checks for connection after you win a battle, before showing the results.

Tokyo 7th Sisters is pretty generous with their Special Summons and they give plenty of free 7th coins.
Every time they release some kind of summon like the Memorial Audition, the first time it cost only 100 coins a summon or 1000 10+1 guaranteed G.
There were 3 of this type of summon recently and I could get 3 GS (and some other G).

I really wanted this Hime card since I started playing, so it was a surprise when I got her two G to make her GS.
The other GS were Rona in a Sheep costume and Live Miu.


And other thing worth mentioning, now there aren't black borders, but white borders with triangles. I think they look uglier than just black borders. And it doesn't count as part of the screen, since touching them on lives doesn't do anything.
Probably they will make this game widescreen soon, but that means replacing a lot of background pictures.

I don't think rerolling is really worth. You need a team of 9 cards and just having one good card doesn't really makes a big difference.
And they made mono teams a lot stronger in lives, so you need 45 cards, 9 for each 5 types if you really want to do well in each live event.

But I see a lot of new players with Platinum cards, so if you want to do it.


And about the lives events, this one was bizarre.
I was around rank 600 three hours before the end. But I ended up going down 600 ranks. This have never happened to me before. At most, I fall only 100 ranks.
Not only that, I barely was doing any points the last day. Maybe the made farming the same song over and over give you less points after a time.
But this is also my fault because I thought the event was going to end the 5 and not the 2, so I didn't play the last three hours.
This is the first time I couldn't GS one of the event cards (only top 1000 in total points or top 500 in high score could get both cards)

After 10 days of playing it, I think I am going to quit.
This game has a lot of good ideas, but it isn't something you want to play everyday.

One of the best things is that this game doesn't have a "wall". It is pretty easy to win all the current chapters (only 7, with 5 stages each) and complete them 100% to get the extra bonuses.
The only "hard" moment in the game are the third chapter bosses. If you aren't prepared (with Charge shots), you can die easily.

Another good thing is that it gives you a lot of diamond to go the premium gacha. I got only rares, with exception of the SR in the picture.
But with good leveled rares, all the levels are pretty easy, including the events.

Why is it so easy? Because weapons are not balanced enough.
There are four types: Single, Speed, Charge and Power.
Single is the best type of shot. It deals good damage, has a good amount of ammo and you can tap quickly to shoot multiple times.
Speed sucks. Low damage, high ammo and you have to hold down to keep shooting at high speed. You can kill bosses fast with it (if it is powerful enough), but you get the same effect just using a Single shot type and tapping quickly.
Charge is also a pretty good type. It has low ammo, but if you hold down, the shoot area increased, damaging multiple enemies and pushing them down.
Power is shit. Just one shoot that is as powerful as two single shots... After every shoot, you have to wait for it to recharge. You are better shooting multiple times with a Single type.

So the best combination is one Single and two Charges, or in Chapter 6 with the annoying enemies that deal damage if you kill them, two Singles and a Charge.


If the main girl was a better character, I would keep playing, but she is really annoying. She always has that sad/annoyed face that you want to punch her.
The exception is when she "becomes" a cat and a chuuni. As a cat girl she is annoying, but as a chuuni, she looks pretty attractive doing all of that chuuni poses.

People can't attack you until your shield goes down in 3 days.

The general strategy is to protect your gold and mana storage, and your main base structure. You lose crowns (PvP ranking, not really important for a beginner) if your base is destroyed, and you lose some of your gold/mana if your gold/mana storage buildings are destroyed.

People usually won't bother unless you have a bunch of gold and mana sitting around without defenses adequate to defend it. Spend your rubies to get 4 builders ASAP and you should be able to spend your gold/mana as it comes in without ever holding on to too much.

For base layout, just click the arrow next to the crown icon and check the top players' base setups and copy one of theirs.

You know a game is going to suck when they show the gameplay pictures the same day they release the game.

This game seems almost like a beta, but I don't think it is something like Maiden Craft that released a beta and they will release the real version soon.
There is no story (even if this was supposed to be one of its selling points), just battles.
The battles are automatic, you only can activate skills.
You can't get your pre-registration bonuses until the iOS version is released.
There isn't a way to summon normal cards (1 or 2 stars), just the ones with premium currency (3 stars and above). They don't even drop (at least in early levels).

The only good thing about this game is that there isn't stamina.
It isn't like Nekomimi Survivor, that there isn't stamina but you have to wait until your HP recovers. There isn't any penalty as far as I know.
But I think there is a reason, if you characters die in battle, they don't get any exp. So you have to battle early stages to get exp in order to survive later stages.

This is a MOBA currently in Alpha. You can only play between 18 to 21 Japan time.

I don't like this type of games, but it doesn't look bad and it is more fluid than a lot of newer cards games.

When I was playing the game, there weren't many people online (a little more than 100) and a lot of empty lobbies.
The battles are 5 vs 5 and are 15 minutes long. You can select between four characters of eight in total before the battle. If one dies, there is a cooldown before you can select the same character, so you have to use another one.
It is funny how my team was losing until two members of the other team quit for some reason.
I hate how it so easy to touch an attack button you don't want to, so you end up making a lot of mistakes. Probably it is meant to be played on a tablet or with a gamepad.

After playing for a while, I can finally write what I think about Princess Connect!
The new app version finally added BGM and SE to the game.

This game has some really good ideas that a lot of games should apply. Other than the voiced cast, the main features of the game are:

First, I will talk about the "raid bosses". They take 0 BP the first time you fight and, after that, it will cost you 1 for normal damage and 3 for x5 (you have a max of 6BP)
You can ask for help to kill it. It send request to your guild members and random people who are online. It also takes 0 BP for them to help the first time.
If the time is over (one hour), they escape. But the good thing is that when you find them again, their remaining HP is the same.
You can mostly get medals when you defeat them. They are used for an special summon that gives you mostly items that gives your cards a boost in EXP. You can also get R and SR.
There is also an stronger version of the boss that is pretty rare and gives you rare medals. They are used for an special summon that gives you R and SR version of the event card (but mostly exp items).

Then there are (i don't know what I should call them, but they are similar to Limited Enemies in Valkyrie Crusade).
It is almost the same as raid bosses, but with some differences:
- You don't get a free battle.
- The enemy may escape after battle.
- You can't request help.
There are three enemies this time, two generic and one event girl, that have a chance to drop her SR.
Instead of medals, you get jewels. They are used for platinum gacha, in other words, the premium summon (but they aren't the "premium currency").
The good thing is that you get plenty and it is quite easy to get SR (but pray if you want an SSR).
Also, you get lots of BP recovery items, so wasting a lot BP isn't that bad.
Interestingly enough, there are individual and guild rewards for the total amount of enemies you kill.

But the main feature of the game are the Princess Battles. You can think of them as Alliance Battles from Valkyrie Crusade.
One of the best features (one that VC should copy) is that you (the Guildmaster actually) can select when your guild fights. You can select from two times from 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 & 23 (this is all Japan time). So there isn't any fight from 0 to 12, when people on this side of the world is awake.
This is also the only time when you have some control over the battles (the above two are automatics). You can select to attack, special skills or restorative skills when you are in the front. If you aren't, you get some (weak) attacks, but a lot of support skills.
Any action cost you TP, you get to restore then through some (free) actions, like a roulette or posting on the chat. But most of the time, you spend you stamina going through an special quest to find restorative TP.
The main reward for winning are the princess medals, used for the princess gacha. Most of the time you get ability books from them. You can also get SR if you are lucky.


Other important points of this game are:
- Free fusions. You can fuse cards to raise levels and ability, it doesn't cost you anything (other than the cards you use).
- The currency of this game, rubies, are, for some reason, only used to buy stamina and BP potions. You can also buy them if rare gems that you get from fusing rare and above cards.
- If you level, you can get potential points. They are used to max stamina recovery, the max cost of you deck or the exp you get. It is so easy to mess if you don't know what to do.
- Also, there is potential for battle abilities when you level you battle level.
- You increase your max deck slots by completing your album.


I think that is all. I think this game isn't popular in the west, since I didn't find an English community.
