Translation team update: We're still working on the project. We currently finished translating Puppet names on trainers (As mentioned before, those are handled differently than Wild Puppets for some weird reason). Right now we're translating the names and classes for each trainer. However, we've run into a minor snag.
Some of the trainer classes are rather... wordy, or awkward. For example, Yuugi's is "Spoken-of Superhuman Strength", Ran's is "Shikigami of Yakumo", Reimu's is "Shrine Maiden of Gensokyo". When read in game, it'd look like "Spoken-of Superhuman Strength Yuugi", "Shikigami of Yakumo Ran", "Shrine Maiden of Gensokyo Reimu". These would look weird, especially Ran - it'd give the impression that it's "Shikigami of Yakumo Ran" (Chen) as opposed to "Shikigami of Yakumo" Ran.
We've come to some solutions, but nothing we're really sold on. It'd be nice to get some feedback outside the direct translation team and chat on what looks better.
http://strawpoll.me/3451858 This is the poll for the trainer classes. The poll will be run for 2 days, and ends on the 22nd. Whichever option has the most votes will be the option we run with.
Attached is a picture of one of the options in the poll, for visual representation of how it'd look in-game.

>> No.12933103

the poll is rather pointless without pictures of the other examples. I'd go as far as to include picture links in the poll itself.

Those "wordy trainer classes" are basically the Touhou characters' titles that appear alongside their names in the series. Perhaps it's a good idea to place those quotes around those titles (the bracket ones), for example,

You are challenged by [Ordinary Magician] Marisa!

Or something like that. You can leave the generic trainer classes unquoted as is.

I still find it hilarious that all the good defensive Nethers have ways to null their dark and/or light weaknesses (Power Magan/DMurasa through ability & typing)

It has a few good offensive puppets, but it's mostly because of them having an absurd ability and/or being able to use the resist really well.

Really good for double switching too. (but shit ingame)

Poison is ok, in terms of things it hits neutrally it got buffed, only nulled by steel, and resisted by the same types in thpp.but reason was removed.

Same resists, but less because Heart and Faith aren't types anymore.

Figuring out the new typing system/moves/puppets is pretty fun. It's essentially a new pokemon game with 300+ added pokes.

Also they made breeding a hell of a lot better, the status screen shows IVs, HMs are items, you allocate EVs manually, and probably some other cool things that I'm forgetting.

Overall I like it a lot. As a previous anon said the difficulty could use work though. You stomp regular trainers super hard and get trashed by major bosses (or just stomp them as well, dependent on the team). If you want more of a challenge don't use low-cost puppets (they level up damn fast).

It's actually not a good idea to give Rinnosuke a Sitrus because he basically gets free dualscreens for himself at 50% health.

The game is realllly good but it's only singles,
If you want to play "competitive" online the only popular metagame that is being played is literally 3P Battle Spot (Bring 6 use 3, item clause) in a jbbs, during JP Hours.

From attitudes in tpdp irc I can't see Level 100 AG becoming the standard either, which is a shame because PP/EVing at 100 is more varied than 50.

Just raising characters I like/puppets who happen to have good IVs is pretty relaxing.

Would like to add Defense Mamizou to the roster as she looks unique, though Power might be better. Not sure what to do with Eirin. Leaning towards Power, though I almost want to go assist for Helper Eirin nostalgia.

>> No.12947075

>>12946396
Defense Mamizou is best in player vs player, because it has pursuit. But it can be useful ingame because it has sucker punch.

Both of these are illusion type so they get stab too, she's very bulky compared to Power Mami too at 110 base HP and has the ability to go mixed.

Power gets neither of these, but has 130 (20 more) base FoAtk and much better speed at base 100. And hobgoblin with immunities but the ingame trainers are rude and always know your true typing.

Assist Eirin is indeed not as good as Helper, RIP good Speed Tier & Burn status (which in this game is blind+burn), I still think it soaks up hits very well though, no opinion Power as I haven't used it.

1st pic - just tap whatever u want
2nd pic u manage ur 2hus like: more info, use items on them, buy new moves, evolve them etc etc.
3rd - ur party, u can have one 2hu in 9 different parties and what is best that every 2hu in party gets exp
4th - shop/sell: top option - items for sell (junk); 2nd from top are special items and also 2hus (when bought or found during quests); 3rd are 2hus general cards (just open them and if u have already that 2hu - sell [if u can read hiragana then there will be always name like ちびぬえ or ここがさ); 4th are beers which u give to 2hu to raise their BP (beer points), those raise HP, ATT, DEF and sth. 5th are the evolution orbs - u give them just like beer and the bottom one is shop where u can buy 2hus
5th pic - options: u can manage sound, difficulty (3rd option), ur char name, ur char icon (choose whatever 2hu u like and this will be shown during "quests"), help (not much if u can't read moonrunes) and those 2 bottom bars are some shit that u should never use

Those quests-battles are pretty easy too: u can always look at the type chart and right b4 every battle u can see what types and how many 2hus does ur oponent have. 2hus use 2 types of attacks: 1- focused type no mana attack (u hit with colored ball, pretty weak attack but effective if oponent is weak against ur type) and a bit stronger mana-consuming attacks.

The notion of "soon" came from the idea that there would be two patches: 1. functional and 2. complete.

For reasons unknown the functional-only patch idea was scrapped. So yeah, we're going to have to wait a while for the finished product.

>> No.12993204

>>12990894
Functional, being the Interface Only Patch (Graphical interface, item names, ability names, skill names) was supposed to come first. This was to make the game playable. Story was always slated to come second after we fine-tuned the Interface Patch. This is why "Soon" was used very often, we finished the Interface Patch relatively quickly.
Things got hairy shortly afterward: Someone decided to up and translate the entire story segment of the game. This put pressure on the translation team, and they said "Well if the story is about done, we should wait to release it and just release a full patch instead.". This made all the "Soons" look like lies just to give the community mislead the community, as if they were intended to do so. That was most definitely not the case - the original play was to always have an interface translation first. When Story was translated, thats when things changed.
Unfortunately, our solo story translator burned out, and also had to tend to personal affairs, so at that point we were stuck with a game that was more or less fully translated, save for a few small details beyond our control. The radio silence of the translation is because we have nothing to report. Anything we could show off would be old news. Without someone translating story, we really have no progress to report.
Right now, all we can really work on is the trainer file translation, and then translating the various exe strings. The IRC channel has a notification up for anyone that walks in, informing them "if a translator for story doesn't step forward by the end of February, generic NPCs will be run through Google Translate." I, and several others, would really not rather it come to that. We may end up just releasing the game without generic NPC translation at that point.

For a quick and dirt version of the stuff I said here, there's a post up on the forums about it.

Seriously release an interface-moves patch, because as of now you are putting the blame on a guy that maybe won't ever finish his part of work, to excuse why you never released a patch.

I've been active in these threads and I sure as hell missed it. Doubt I'm the only one. It's also a problem that many have patched to 1.17, making those assets unusable (if my memory is correct).

In any case if a partial trans for an older patch was buried in one of these threads I'd bet that most missed it, and are in fact waiting for a partial trans. Pretty much what >>12994130 said.

>>12993204
Don't take this as a critique, as hindsight is 20/20 etc, but it would have been prudent to go with the original 2 patch plan regardless. A functional patch would have brought more people into the fold right when interest was highest (game's release/C87), which in turn would garner the game more attention/hype and perhaps even bring more people into the translation effort as a result. Hell, we could have some manner of a netplay community with a functional patch.

I agree with the other anon that releasing a functional patch would be a good thing. Even though the timing isn't as ideal it could still generate some much needed momentum. Otherwise things will likely carry out rather predictably, i.e. as they have been as of late.

Regardless though, thanks for your hard work.

http://tpdp.supersanctuary.net/manual/
The thing about not learning new attacks purely by level is new to this game, and I find it pretty damn good. Especially how you can buy your old moves back on the fly in case you mess up or something.
As for the ranks next to stats, those are a way to identify something's IVs. It's easier to redirect you to Bulbapedia than to try explaining what they are exactly.

I assume they work like in the modern games, rather than in the oldest ones. Either way, it shouldn't matter all that much in the end.
