The sealant makes the vinyl "soft" and matte-looking. It's very easy to tell sealed vs. unsealed vinyl by looking at them side-by-side. Unsealed vinyl will have a shinier look.

Yes, the face and body have the same type of vinyl (soft vinyl) while the inner skeleton is hard vinyl.

Dark acrylics will appear slightly shiny even after MSC is applied. I have a feeling that Volks may lightly spray the bodies in MSC before putting them in the plastic bag all DD's come in, because my DD's hands (the area I touch the most) have some spots that are shinier than the legs/arms/etc.

Even shitty chinese doll companies and recasters seal their faceups.

The default faceups are stenciled on and require no sealant. Occasionally you come across people who modify the default Volks faceups, like fino did with his/her Marisa that won a Volks photo competition. If the default faceup was sealed there would be no way to modify it.

I doubt they do that, sealing a body with MSC doesn't work too well since there's some softer vinyl parts and the MSC can't really handle that. You'd also notice it if you for example had to remove a stain on the body, stain removers fuck with MSC a lot and I've never seen that happen on a body, only on a sealed faceup that I decided to experiment with.

You want pastels and/or acrylics. The acrylics can't be cheap ones you get at any art store. You'll also need sealant (MSC). Volks sells everything you need in regards to brushes, paints, sealant, etc.

I'm going to take the dive and get an overpriced DDS model of Alice Kuonji in a few days, but I wanted to know what anyones experience was with DDS. I know the clothes pretty much all fit, and they're just a bit shorter, but are heads the same size? I'm mainly looking at the Alice model for the faceup and eye shape plus, her outfits are cute. Are the DDS arms really that much more prone to cracking? And any other info on them would be great!

The first releases of the DDS using the DDIII body were. I believe Alice was released after the cracking issue was resolved, so you should be okay.

If you intend on keeping Alice in her default wig and clothes, buy a cloth wig cap, a silicon wig cap, and a bodysuit. If a DD stares at dark colors, they'll stain.

Stains can be removed with a product called RemoveZit, and I suggest you pick some up as soon as you order your doll. There are guides on how to use this stuff effectively.

The only reason you add the first layer is for tooth and protection, and then you seal it to prevent smudging. You can still wipe it off with the right products.
