I really want to play Touhou games again! But ever since I upgraded to Windows 8 the games seem to play funny. Does anyone else with 8 get problems with input lag, especially on the first gen Windows games? It's not major but there's just enough to throw me off pace

Flandre and Remilia are literal Europeans warped to Gensokyo at 'an unknown time' Patchouli is a long time friend of Remilia, so very likely European. Meilings a Chinese Youkai, and Cirno and Rumia are just hanging out.

Sakuya's from the human village, and probably taught the mansion how to Japanese/Gensokyo. I wouldn't say EoSD is 'Western' per se, but more European heritage-wise.

One of the fastest ways to learn a language is to immerse yourself in a place where that language is spoken. When you have to learn it just to communicate with anybody else, you learn very, VERY fast. It's hard for people like us to learn a language in our off time because we have no pressure to learn it.

There were European Japanophiles too. Remilia might just have been one.

And of course we can always fall back on "magic", especially with Patchouli being there.

many reasons.

1) plot reasons, those usually are one of the strongest reliong of the world, so if we take angels and demons as a form of youkais or shinto gods, they don't need to go to gensokyo humans belive in them enough.

2) also what kind of character you can create that can represent christianity? unless something like a youkai that start beliving on that, and using a youkai that have a human origin (they were human but turn into youkai like the witch) will be like creating a second Byakuren.

3) I don't feel ZUN like western stuff much, at least on the "spiritual" side, while he have use some westerns creatures, like vampires and witch, those don't count like great represantative, since are the type of creature that all cultures have their own variant.
