When people say 'SA cast' they think about Chireidens only. Komeijis and their pets is what defines this game.
I don't want to write autistic walls of text describing why I love them so much so I'll mention only one point. They have the tightest bonds between them and thus they are the only group of characters in Touhou that feels like a real loving family. Every their picture radiates warm, cosiness and serenity.

also, if you play koishis theme backwards, it sounds like you play it normal. sadly ZUN isn't that great of a musician and didn't pull of a perfect "crab canon", but it's still cool
also, Utsuho's spellcards are the only ones in the touhou series where i was really amazed, it just feels like extreme raw power, which is very appropriate for the nuclear bird

Here's what I think of the SA cast. Kisume is shit, Yamame is a fun and underrated Touhou, Parsee is crazy but cute with an interesting backstory, Yuugi is for people who like women strong and manly in attitude, Satori has a scary power but interesting with a sightly sad backstory, Orin is just a cat girl with a thing for corpses and isn't interesting beyond that, Okuu is just stupid, and Koishi is boring. All in all I think of the cast as having a few interesting and overlooked characters but is brought down by the least interesting family/house-hold in Gensokyo and the worst character in the series, who lives in a waste bucket where she belongs. Still a better cast than IN, I think.

How can you not like a character that rebelled against Kanako's (and possibly her own master's) whims and instead decided to straight up nuclear-jihad Gensokyo with her new powers? That was the first legitimately evil incident Gensokyo has seen since the PC-98 days.

The only reason SA cast is still less popular than SDM is because ZUN keeps them underground. Like for example Satori, Yuugi and Parsee canonically do not want/can go aboveground and that severely limits artist's options for plot and complicates interactions with other characters. In the end all artists still try to follow canon to some degree (unless it's pure H or a gag doujinshi).

I wish WaHH would end with SA cast befriending with all other touhous. That would blow SDM fuck out.
