I tried BJD and Dollfie in the catalog search and didnt find the general thought it was dead.

I have been saving and watching an aftermarket DD Mariko. I finally committed to spending $1000+ on a doll. I messaged a seller with a student vers Mariko for sale, for right around $1000. Apparently it sold out the day before. I'm distraught. I want a Mariko, but I can't bring myself to pay $1100, 1300, 1500 even that some people ask. Especially after losing the last retail lottery at $550. I just keep hoping for a re-re-release.

That's too bad. The US market has a history of giving better deals on the doll though. She comes up between $900-1100 on Den of Angels/Dollfie Dreams and at $1100+ agent fees (10% so 100) plus shipping she's almost $1300. Yep. The rereleases of Melty and Sasara are in different outfits. Melty is Christmas themed and comes with sorbe in a Christmas hat. I prefer her default too but I won't pay the after market... And the Christmas one is really cute too.

Suggested method was to use a heat gun to warm the shin to free the dowel, but even giving it all the heat I was prepared to, it didn't budge. Last BJD before I move on to DDs. This is Volks's SD13 Yori, specifically the limited "Cover Girl" version that was a pre-order special in early '13. As far as I've been able to find out, she's one of only two in the English-speaking world and less than ten in existence.

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I enjoy my BJDs much more than I do my DDs. There's just something about the varied sculpts, the solid, warm resin, the smooth articulation, and the handmade feel of resin dolls that creaky vinyl just can't compare to. I started with DDs, but the two I have are probably the only ones I'll ever buy.

I haven't had any real issues with it. I've yet to have to restring any of my own but I've helped other people do it and it's not terrible if you have the right tools. The nice things about resin dolls are that they're way less likely to stain and easier to fix if they do stain, and unless you drop them they're pretty durable, no randomly cracking skeletons and the like.

Try play with the settings. Set focus mode to center, make sure the doll is in the middle of the frame. Now press the shutter half way down, the camera will focus on the doll as long as the shutter is held half way down. You can move the camera around and press down to take the picture.

Also try zoom all the way out And stand closer to the doll, instead of standing away and zooming in. Lower f stop will help too, but auto mode should take care of that

I would recommend going with a M bust DD. The M bust is still quite large, but can wear most clothes that DDS and DD with S or M bust can wear. An L bust DD will be a bit harder to shop for.

MDD's can wear a lot of MSD sized clothing, so I think shopping for them is going to be fairly easy overall.

Dude, these dolls don't depreciate much, especially the limited editions. Limited editions increase in value as time goes on and since you're expected to have played with your dolls at least somewhat (which in my opinion would be silly not to) this can still be taken into account as a slight depreciation on their increased collector's cost. Basically what is most important about these limited editions is their head and face up, coupled with their wigs and accessories.

There are plenty of male resin dolls, but there are no male DD's and no plans to make them.

People have made custom male DD's using small-chested Obitsu bodies and custom DD heads. They all still look a little "off"

I think you can purchase a Luts anime-style head and opt for a male body. That may be your best option unless you want to go with a traditional resin boy.
