Well, for one, you're acting surprised that a thread with 25 posts at the time didn't discuss one specific producer.

Second, I can't stand his Miku at all. I'm usually one to tolerate bad tuning, but goddamn it's terrible even for me. At least Weekender Girl is somewhat listenable, but I can't listen to Strobo Nights or Last Night Good Night all the way.

Bgm is mediocre at best, it would have gotten 10k views at the most if it used a japanese vocaloid. But since "omg guiz we have to support westerners" movement has been really strong, that's how it ended up with view inflation.

Well it's a rather unique song compared to other Vocaloid songs, but you're correct about quality artists leaving. It sure has slowed down, ever since Jin finished the Mekaku songs, actually.

>> No.12970103

Right now is practically the best time for any new producers to start uploading songs since a good chunk of the popular producers are currently inactive/busy with other things.

But on the other hand, that means more attempts at western producer wannabes. I'm not looking forward to more crappy English songs flooding the ranking. Hopefully a decent western producer (aka not a total weeb) can make a promising English song that doesn't sound like a 19 year old made it in their basement.

Instead of relying on "OMG you're only 19 and made this!" (Referring to crusher/circus/whoever) how about relying on actual talent? Come on now, don't whore out your young age if that's all you have to offer.

>> No.12970787

>>12970103
It's actually the opposite I found as someone who used to upload to nico at least once a month. My average view counts pretty much halfed towards the end. My old videos started off with 200 views baseline where as the newer ones were lucky to breach 100 they benefited from my producing and composition getting a lot better by the end aswell. Judging by other user's videos as well it seems the overall viewer count is down. I generally learned in this fandom and in music on the whole from my four years here, it is not how good you are but how lucky you are or how well you social network and spam your shit. Also I major in Sound Production I take a lot of time to make the best music and rely on that alone as my selling point I can but I've only recently got somewhere when I got on to a small Internet label that works with me. Talent doesn't play a big a part as you think.

>>12969798
I agree. Jin disappearing has left a big hole in this shit, Echo looks prime to hit 1,000,000 nico views and is the first track to do in awhile (as much as I hate that), I'm hoping for a resurgence soon but I'm more hoping for it to die and be reborn with more talented producers giving it love.

Suzumu collaborated with kemu as arranger for a long time, and his instruments and arrangements are what made the songs unique. Since kemu is so popular and given much credit as the composer, it's reasonable people who don't know much about making music to associate their work only with kemu. This leads to the misunderstanding that kemu = suzumu, it sucks you're not given proper credit as an individual but it beats not being well known at all.

install foobar and foo_run, and of course ffmpeg.
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_run

follow the directions in the image for conversion setup. the command i wrote depends on a cover.jpg existing the album directory you plan on converting. to convert, select all the tracks of an album. if there are 10 tracks or less, the default of 30s per track is adequate, and you can use the conversion hotkey you set up in this scenario. when more than 10 tracks, you need to bust out the calculator and divide 300 by number of tracks. round the result up. right click selection > convert > ... > other > and put the number you evaluated in for the duration.

now for conversion. here is the command. you need to customize it:

cmd /s /k pushd "C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin" && ffmpeg -framerate 7 -loop 1 -i "C:\cover.jpg" -c:v libvpx -i "C:\Image.wav" -c:a libvorbis -b:a 128k -b:v 50k -vf scale=-1:512 -shortest -metadata title="%album%" -metadata author="%artist%" -threads 8 -y "C:\%artist% - %album% preview.webm" && pause && exit

cont.

>> No.12990132

>>12990108
>now for conversion.
encoding*

- check that the ffmpeg directory used in the command is the same as yours.
- remove or change the -threads 8 switch if you have a processor capable of multi-threading. i own a quad core processor capable of 8 simultaneous work threads. if you don't know this information for your processor, remove the switch.
- if your videos are coming out just a little bit too big, you can lower the framerate as low as 5. this lowers the amount of keyframes and makes it compress better, but it makes it harder to seek through the video. from my testing i've found that framerates under 5 are unacceptable.
- if you can't lower the framerate, lower the video size from 512 to something smaller. i'd say that a 300x300 image is the lowest acceptable for reverse image searching.
- if you don't want to lower the framerate or scale the video down, adjust the video bitrate (-b:v 50k.) 100K usually makes 4:30+ files too big, and 20K looks like shit.

you only need to select one track for this part but having multiple tracks selected is acceptable. all the command does is pass metadata of the selected track off to ffmpeg and start the encode. ffmpeg will take the metadata from the first selected track. this saves time as you don't need to write the commands yourself. you'll also notice that it passes off the metadata into webm metadata, which is something useful that people hardly ever use. it should allow you to source the file even when the filename is changed or it can't be reverse image searched.

if you have any questions or if i wasn't clear enough on some of these steps, feel free to ask.

Not really. Japan has it's fair share of shit songs, it's just since it has deeper roots there and they have, as a nation, a more open minded approach to the automation of tasks, hence, they have a lot more talented producers willing to use Vocaloid. The Western Vocaloid fanbase is still composed of retards that like retarded shit so we just see said retarded shit float to the top. There are Western producers out there who put effort into their songs, we just don't get noticed because we don't fit into that mentality of looking to get noticed.

That is probably the dumbest thing I've ever read. Why would you not want to get attention for your music? Don't you want to be recognized for your talent?!

Well do yourself a favor and actually advertise yourself if you're a good producer. Don't be a dipshit.

If you're good, post your stuff here
If you're not good, get better, then post your stuff here.

I'm tired of having to comb through youtube in an attempt to find "good" western producers. Make my life easier and link your stuff, kay?

I'm not adding cockateil because I tried making a fan compilation album out of his music with shitty web rips , as okameP was supposedly going to make the album "cockatiel" and it spreaded like wildfire to the point where okameP himself become aware of it. It was only 1-3 months after i pulled that shit off he released the real cockatiel album. idk whether or not if it was coincidence or out of spite. Either way, I feel really guilty. Unless I get a bunch of people telling me otherwise, I won't add it.

Clean Tears, I have artificial Rainbow on there.

XenonP and 164, I was debating on including one, but I wasn't sure which one to add.

To give you an idea, I have a few little "rules" with this essential list. One of them is to have only one producer with 1 album UNLESS it was really that good, which is the case of 40mP and Camellia. Another one is to not add compilation albums Unless they were really good, I.e. Mikgazer. I havent had the time left over to listen to an exit tunes compilation album, nor do I see why I should. If there was a bunch of people telling me that X album is great, by all means let me know. I don't see these albums on rateyourmusic or something. The albums on here are based on how well received they are by fans, ratings from vocaDB and MIkuDB, and from my own judgment as unbiased as possible. I wished I had a bunch of people telling me what to add, but I don't always have that.

Whoa anon, stop right there. Camellia has at least 4 albums that I know of. Stance on Wave is top-tier, but there's mikUbiquity, TRIPPERS and Michno-sequence too.

They are all solid albums, TRIPPERS is the earliest so it's a bit rough. Personal ranking for Camellia is Michno-sequence>Stance on Wave>mikUbiquity>TRIPPERS.

On another note, I like your lists. Glad to see Dual Sight there, I just discovered it a few weeks ago. Confession (dat Aoki Lapis), Dual Sight and Offshore are god-tier tracks.

the reason i've done all this of course is because essentials charts don't really represent the albums on them. you can't judge an album by its cover, and i know hardly anyone wants to search it all up themselves (but if you need to be spoonfed any more than this you're a lost cause.)

Both buzzG and Yuuyu are high profile pop/rock producers

buzzG isn't as active as he used to be, like most professional producers recently

Why are ASH Vocaloids so superior?

>> No.13053279

Did Jin's songs actually do something distinctive or was it just opportunistic timing in vocaloid history?

And is it weird that the light novels are so popular despite being so un-serious? The tone feels very different from the songs.

I really fancy that idea, wonderful job! definitely adding this to the pastebin. can you share your secrets onto doing this? I might do some my self.

Also, how come there's an Irijako (いりじゃこ) album on there? Don't get me wrong, I love that dude's music, but I dont think i've ever added his album in the 3.0+ versions, but in 2.0 or sooner I may've added his album there. i didn't think there would be anyone else out there that knew of that dude's music.

one other thing, the giga x ore banana P xfade webm has the shibou picture and sound.

I can also expand the essential list, but I'm not sure how big I can make the picture without it being too big for the file size restriction...unless that restriction was lifted. Would anyone know?

>>13053046

I used to have them both on older versions of my essential list. Which BuzzG and Yuuyu albums would you vouch for?

i made two posts about how to do it earlier in this thread >>12990108 foobar's conversion tool actually seems to have been made for this purpose. after that all it takes is a simple foobar component to pass the metadata off to ffmpeg for the encoding.

the only issue is the way i did it was specifically to avoid unicode issues when passing data off to ffmpeg. it writes to the same files (C:\image.wav, C:\cover.jpg) so it is not possible to do batch encoding. step one must always be followed by step two or else you'll have the wrong art and filename going along with the music, which is what happened with that gigaP album you pointed out.

i made a bunch of these before i got the idea to do the whole essentials list. irijako happened to be in there because i dig experimental stuff. i also purposely sweetened the list with my own essentials and troll essentials. artists like irijako/akamimi/pulse circus may not belong but i do believe the others like bungaP, nashimoto ui, etc do belong on the list.

i think 100 albums is more than enough. i saw a jazz essentials list with less entries and that's a 100 year old genre. you could probably fit another row in if it was condensed a more, but you should just be replacing/removing what was obviously added just to pad out the list. for example hikkiP is just harsh noise. deco27 doesn't need two entries. tilt-six/kagomeP/lolproject are just average. there are a lot of albums below the fourth row that i cant agree are essential.

I've listened to Circus, Crusher, and their music under the collab name CirCRUSH and regardless of the name, the music sounds terrible; it's boring, uninspired, basically it's generic dance music that could probably be easily recreated with loops and samples. There's no unique melody or something in the music that makes me go "wow that's amazing."

Sorry, I'm not a tween who wants to listen to crappy dance music put out these by teens.

ECHO had so much potential, and the boring bgm just ruined it. At least it had catchy lyrics, but that's me trying to find a gold speckle in a giant turd.

Circus/CirCRUSH/Crusher whatever they want to be called, need to learn how to write a catchy hook and then learn how to make bgm that doesn't sound like an amateur playing around on FL Studios.

It's good for what it is, a generic pop song. Gumi's tuning in their songs are a little to high pitch for me but the english is really well done and stands out to me compared to what ive heard in the past.
