Sad? HM's style was all over the place with the game's sprites looking completely different from the portraits. Alphes completely dropped the ball, Futo and Nitori being the worse offenders, they almost look like different characters when you start playing with them.

Meanwhile this game seems to have the best art to date in a Touhou game. I hope it's here to stay.

They improved the spirit system but the new weather/power system is... something.
Every 30 seconds or so an occult ball pops onto the screen and both players will attempt to touch it to gain its power. If you get 4 of them you can use a powerful special move.
The ball is accompanied by a random effect similar to SWR's weather.

I hate fighting games so much. I have no clue what's going on in this. I just mashed buttons and apparently beat the first two bosses, but I can't say it was fun or that I knew what I was doing.

At least in bullet hells the controls are minimal. You press left, you actually go left, and it's super precise in Touhous. So all there's left to do is dodge the bullets.

Most fighting games have pretty accurate controls. The touhou ones are an exception due to having less attack buttons and multiple attacks assigned to the same inputs with different conditions for being used. The appeal of them overall is that they're different, they're something new that you need to take time to learn the ins and outs of, if that makes sense, and can be immensely satisfying when mastered.

I mean, it's a fighting game. You got three attack buttons, and you got your combinations. Throw some basic fireballs around with all the buttons to see what they do. Get used to the way the character snaps back to the middle after a dash. Experiment a little bit. You'd be surprised on how much more confident just knowing what every button does well can do for you.

I don't think you deserved the responses you got, but you gotta at least try to understand this genre a little: the barrier of entry isn't as low as in your average shmup.
